The best thing they could do for pvp is rip out every map and launch with maybe 3 remasters from D1 and 3 new ones for the expansion, all made with 6v6 in mind and hopefully with more arena design and less call of duty laning.
There's so much work to do other than maps, here's my stances:
- Less heavy, make it team spawn again at long intervals and if its dropped it's lost forever
- Supers on longer cooldowns or just take the mods and orbs out of pvp play and make supers a one or two time deal per game that's it. Also there are certain roaming supers that should be shorter in duration and have less armor.
- Get rid of pinnacle weapons <- serious about this btw, the best part of pvp in d1 was you could jump in and out and not be so damn fucked by not farming the recent meta game (before someone gets all 'but there was a meta', I know but you could still roll into pvp with your comfortable shit and not get reamed). Most people just wanna close out their bounties not get spawn farmed in quickplay.
- Related to above, competitive needs to go, it's not competitive, y'all can google why I'm over explaining how lack of dedis and it not being a genuine ladder is fucking stupid
- Weapons that are better for pvp in pve or pve in pvp need to fuck right off. People should want to play both based on them being developed well and into shit you actually want to play, not funneled into them out of necessity, it just brings in even more AFKing, griefing, account recoveries, etc etc.
- Less OHK stuff is better for everyone. A lot of the pvp population has dropped off because there's no rhythm to the game, it's a lot of rounding corners or even spawning and splat, you're already dead with no real awareness of why, where or how.
There's shit I forgot but PVP/Crucible is a MESS.

Part 3 today
Wish there was more about weaponry/the sandbox in regards to PVP though. Also let players just have a fucking Clash playlist. You want people in PVP as noobs do it. Control as the casual playlist? They are still up their own ass hard. Not a fan of survival either. Just don't get their obsession with elimination style play especially with all the OHK cheese that exists.
we’re lowering roaming Super damage resistance. And we are.Good.
On top of that, more things than ever now contribute to players getting their Supers back, so we’re doing some tuning there as well. Supers will be just as powerful, but they will be a more strategic choice. As such, we’re reducing the effectiveness of orbs on refilling the Super meter and reducing the Super energy gained from kills and assists.Good.
We’re making some changes to Heavy ammo in Destiny 2: Heavy ammo will be communal in 6v6 playlists. We’re also reducing the amount of ammo per brick in PvP for certain 6v6 archetypes. It’s not exactly the same as D1 though—when a player cracks open the Heavy crate, other players have a window of time to interact with it to get their Heavy ammo.Yes.
We’ve removed the Quickplay and Competitive nodes from the Director.Yes.
We’ve added 6v6 Control as its own playlist.Good maybe.
With the potential influx of new players this Fall, we want to have a playlist that signals to new players that this is where to start.Uhhhh. Hmmm.... More thoughts below.
We feel like 6v6 Control is the right starting place when introducing new friends to Destiny.
We’ve added a weekly 6v6 rotator and a weekly 4v4 rotator.Hope they actually curate the maps for this otherwise what's the point.
These rotator playlists are where modes like Clash, Supremacy, Mayhem, Lockdown, and Countdown will appear.
We’ve removed some underperforming maps from matchmaking, too. Please dear god be Legion's Gulch.
Competitive is replaced by 3v3 Survival (which now awards Glory).Fuck. What's wrong with just straight up Clash.
We’ve also added a Survival Solo Queue playlist that also awards Glory.Good for some who like me aren't a fan of rumble in Destiny and solo queue. I just don't like Survival. Least Countdown is gone I guess.
We’ve also been working on four variants of 3v3 EliminationWhy.
Additionally, we’ve also taken a longer look at matchmaking and overhauled the skill-matching system. In the game today, Quickplay is the only playlist that doesn’t have some version of skill matching in the game. We’re preserving that behavior (connection matchmaking) in the 6v6 Classic Mix playlist. Here’s what gets really annoying about skill match:😒
When it’s overly restrictive, it’s fatiguing when every single game feels like a sweat fest.
When it’s overly loose, a player can get an entire evening of unlucky matchmaking RNG where they’re getting dumped on by squads of Terminators shredding Kinderguardians. A bad time (for the Kinderguardians)!
There’s much more complexity and nuance to an evening of PvP than those two statements above, but they do accurately capture the core problem: a lack of match-to-match variety. Sure, for a bunch of Terminators, a night of stomping might be a blast, but what about the folks on the receiving end of that business? This is where it gets tricky to improve matchmaking—people generally tend to focus on their own experience in their feedback.

Lol @ communal heavy. The potential for 6 players with a wardcliff is hilarious. Will they delete dropped bricks then? Because that's just more potential for heavy ammo scavengers and things getting out of control.
Maybe it can work if you never drop bricks, and heavy spawns only once in a match in the middle of the map. Let a team blow their load and its not too much of a snowball.
Everything else about Lukes post just sounds sobering. Nothing about this expansion drop seems all that interesting. It's more Rise of Iron than Taken King or Forsaken. Not that it was ever described as such, but it's incredibly unambitious. We've got a big round of nerfs to look forward to and not much else to actually deepen the way the game is played. No commitment to support or tank roles/classes despite the declaration of "we're an mmorpg".
I don't even know who the buff stacking nerf is for. Look at the achievements--like 1% of the playerbase even completes some of the high end content. So the desperation to force crown of sorrow for 1%'s into a three phase instead of a one phase is weird.

If they are really serious about this RPG turn, they need to make alot of the mod and exotic abilities intrinsic to certain classes by default.
Hunters should have traction by default, Titans should have high resilience by default, Warlocks should be gods, BY DEFAULT.

I'm gonna need a dope story trailer to get hype at this point if im being honest.

The whole concept of traction should be deleted. I get that it's a stat, but the inherent function of the controls shouldn't be a stat. Also because it's basically required for a lot of people on console and 100% useless on PC because how mice work, so just get rid of the concept.
Should have been a perk to make jumps quicker and less awkward. It's weird how they are all about platforming but then most encounters in strikes, raids, pvp are barely vertical at all. Also guns just kind of stall and you're so vulnerable in the air.
also since i'll be cross-saving i have to remember to stop sharding sidearms because they can actually hit stuff on PC

does anyone know with cross save if it'll just be automatic. Like I can just get on my PC and play, and also on my console, no issues as long as not trying to login at the same time? Or do I have to like, officially "transfer" each time I want to switch hardware?
i'd like to do a lot of my grinding on PC, and a lot of my LFG stuff on console

Once you link up your accounts on Bungie.net it's automatic. Your data from the platform you choose to cross-save is just on all platforms. Any characters you already had on those platforms will simply go dormant.
You can disable cross save (but why would you), which will make the dormant chars playable again and put your cross-saved chars back on their home platform, but it'll also lock you out from cross saving for 90 days (basically an entire season) to discourage people doing account recoveries via the cross-save system.
also remember any silver you buy is locked to that platform, but anything you buy with that silver is available on all platforms. Any expansion/season gear is also unlocked on all platforms, you just can't play the story/expansion content itself unless you rebuy it.
PC migration signup is live

fuck, so i gotta make any PC purchases I need to make prior to steam migration huh?
right now I've only got Destiny 2 base game purchased on PC from way back. 40 dollars for Forsaken + annual pass. SMH. double dip city

FWIW they apparently announced at Gamescom that Forsaken + Annual Pass is pricelocked to 40$ for the entirety of Y3 (probably because half of it is Activision content), so you can either decide to buy it on battle.net and migrate, or wait for the Steam release and buy it there post migration, same price either way
They should just nerf all the weapons to dust come shadowkeep in pvp otherwise they will not retain newcomers at all.
Methinks there ia massive Weapons update coming before SK drops,
Because, the sandbox as it currently stands is not fit for purpose, exposing Kindaguardians to it is PR suicide.

the pc switch begins today
ill probably use Ps4 for when I can't get certain LFG's going on PC, or to do the sweatiest PVP content. Maybe switch full time back to console for Ps5 assuming its 4k/60fps/super SSD loads.

You were on ps4 only this whole time? Whew. I couldn't. Higher frame rate is just so much better. You do have to contend with pvp being way more aggro and fast paced on PC though. Distances covered and titans/lock cheese is intense.

I got cross save activated. No idea if I will actually play the game again, but I did it.
Also, Bungie apparently fucked up the way they were handling the flow so that, if you had 2FA, you had to authenticate all your accounts, select your main account, and then hit the apply cross save button before any of the 2FA methods timed out.

That's actually technically 'correct' as the 2FA is handled by the authentication source on each platform itself and still has to be active by the time Bungie talks to them again. It's actually why bungie.net will eventually log you out, because Sony and MS actually don't let you stay permanently signed in to 3rd party sites.
It just cropped up weirdly here because it's extremely edge case that a website would need you to log into 4 external authentications at once for one thing simultaneously.
Also, tested it out by grabbing bounties on PC, completing them on PS4, then turned them on PC. Fully functional.

ways to improve crucible:
1) no join in progress to a match that should have mercied already, and
2) if you do join in progress to a game you get a fucking super

Everything is Fortnite now. Remember when they used to say they didn't want players always playing? lol
By toku Go To PostRemember when they used to say they didn't want players always playing? lolThis is even more hilarious this last year to me given how just one character takes a buttload of time and there's some activity triumphs and emblems you can only get if you're also doing shit on the other two. Just trying to fill out one character makes you feel like a no lifer at times.
anyone on pc gonna put in considerable time in september? cutoff for buying any content is sep 3 for the blizz store version, so if people are planning on doing forsaken content grind during then i'll buy it, otherwise i'll just wait for the steam version and double dip on shadowkeep first
maybe i need a better discord, but game feels kinda dead/weird on pc. PVP feels like you're up against a bunch of account recoveries trying to get a mountaintop for someone--there were a lot of ppl going for it on console too, but its really prevalent on PC
i'm used to using the bungie lfg app and just constantly seeing rooms available for whatever activity i need. We're also at the end of a season so that might be it too

By DY_nasty Go To PostPC pvp is very, very different manYeah. Entirely different meta due to aim control related to both mouse and frame rate.
PC is just also a completely different game. Range is extended on weapons, titan charges. Where you thought you'd see drop off of weapons just doesn't even happen. Supers can get way more jukey and they can cover bullshit distances (flame locks especially). On PC once the supers start rolling it's just tedious. If Bungie actually wants to retain people in PVP they still have way more work to do. Been sayin but they're actually giving a bit more of a fuck, least heavy changed.
Yeah PC is just so much faster because people charge at each other constantly. I do well with controller on it but people are just basically trying to force a play constantly. Console play is more conservative on the part of other teams (lots o people trying to preserve their k/d i guess). Both are annoying handcannon fuckfests.
wonder if you'll see a slowdown on steam from all the people using steam controllers and shit
edit: although i've never played on xbox and sometimes games play different even between xbox and playstation

PC PVP could seriously be a bit more tolerable by relaxing flinch and lowering sniper magnetism. I started using a sniper again and was blown away by its auto aim. Even some of my own kills I was like "lol that was prime bullshit." It needs nerfing bad.
so the Destiny subbreddit is on fire rn because of PAX leaks. Apparently new raid armor is just a reskin, all the "new" loot is strictly eververse shit. No vendor refresh. Ppl saying they put all the work into eververse and cross-save.
Was ok with the battlepass shit but learning stuff is straight up locked behind Eververse with no special engrams for current stuff anymore (All best of year one etc) and raid gear is a total reskin lol. I can't even muster anger though. People just kept assuming a lot of the direction was because of big bad Activision, nah Bungie been doing questionable shit themselves since D2 launched. In fact this past season seeing how Eververse got a big nice design overhaul while we got the "pursuits" tab and no vault changes lol, writing was on the wall.
