By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthaving to dedicate my life to 45 minute matches and reading gamefaqs on the regular to get gud? i'm cool with heroes being dumbed down
Yeah Heroes of the Storm...completely agree with Retro, but if you don't care about skill ceilings, that would be ideal for you.
I tell all the noobs who are like "WE GOTTA END FAST GTG!" that you actually should block off an HOUR of your time incase you encounter the super-ultra tryhards who want to prolong the game unnecessarily.
If you're reading the dedicated gamefaqs board, you're doing it wrong. There' s a secret page where all the real players hang out., but I forget the name of it (saved as a favorite at home).
The internet is generally not good if you actually want to get good. You just have to encounter people who know more about the game than you do and build from there. I'm constantly PM'ing my 5k-6k friends about theorycrafting.
I sorta-kinda got connections, so I was spectating a pro match (where they're all using alts) and got a few pointers on playing support, a role that I'm absolutely garbage. I mean, I always lose when I play support, so even when my carries are bad, I blame myself.
By blackace Go To Postpicked up Kerbal Space Program last night… glad I did!wow, didn't think you'd like it. i might be willing to give it a shot now
Skill doesn't come from the rules of the game, it comes from the players.
Sports don't require much skill either, they're all basic. The skill requirements come from millions of people playing the sport, constantly evolving the sport and pushing what is possible. Aside from a few rules being added like 3 in the key, clear path foul, etc. basketball is still the same game it was 50 years ago. It's not like it turned into NBA Jam and there's random 9 point hot spots and stuff.

Skill in the most literal sense almost entirely comes from the rules of the game though. It's kind of the point of most of them.
By etiolation Go To PostMOBAs I actually enjoyed:
Smite
Awesomenauts
Awesomenauts is underrated. My Issue with the major MOBAs are the lack of skill required. They play as flat, 2-d overhead limited-skill use games. Movement is stuck in a Starcraft feel. Smite and Awesomenauts at least add some more skill variables with limited FoV and platforming.
That's..... a really unique perspective. Considering the skill ceilings in both those games are much lower when compared to other games in the genre.
I think my biggest turnoff with league lately, outside of the time required, is the FoV
that really, really bothers me for some reason

Do you just not like RTS? I'm not sure what's unique about League's FOV in comparison to similar games.

Not sure about that. I think a large amount of gamers with MOBA/MMO don't count platforming, reaction time and other such elements of skill common outside the MOBA/MMO realm as skills, but they in fact are skills and an added skill test.
Flat, 2d movement drawn from RTS is not high skill. Now, a game that's been around a long time and requires a lexicon of knowledge built up over that time will require skill in knowing those strategies and elements, but executing them requires less skill than a game with 3d planes and platforming and other such issues could likely entail.
I think people mistake competitive with being highly skill based. DOTA 2 has skill shots. That requires some skill. I am not sure that's what people mean when they say high skill ceiling. Mostly these games require repeated use and knowledge of the metas, strats and maps. It's a skill, but it's also just a time-spent quality.
By Retro Go To PostDo you just not like RTS? I'm not sure what's unique about League's FOV in comparison to similar games.League's FoV is irritatingly small.
And even in RTS games, you're not really put on the spot to perform the same things that league regularly requires you to do. Most strat games will let you zoom out quite a bit too.
I play a lot of jungle in particular too and its just nervewracking moving my screen around and lining up motions and actions again every few seconds.

.
I don't know about other people but I was speaking in terms of those elements when I responded to you.
I think player mechanics in these games is the biggest barrier separating high elo players from low elo players. and I think the amount of precision that goes into that aspect of the game is incomparable to the aspects you describe of other games. There's so much depth to simple clicking in these games that it's almost overwhelming watching top players when you're able to understand what they're doing.
Assassin's Creed IV is good. I didn't care for the sailing sections in III, but they polished it up here and jacking other ships is really fun. The game is also really good looking - maybe the best looking game I've seen on the 360. All those little refinements across the series amounted to something special in this one.
the best NA league player plays at 200 DPI on some weird ass shit. And the only time i'm good at reaction time in games is if i'm not thinking at all

And if you can combine good control dexterity with know-how, you'll smash it. Especially with Invoker :P

GTAV is so...wow. Like, I'm intimidated by its scope. In the past, I hoped GTA would never end. Now, I'm looking forward to getting all the missions done so that I can finally free roam and fool around with evading the police for as long as possible and even get online.
It's the best $60 value I've played since they started charging that much. Only Smash Bros. comes close, but it's limited by genre.

Yooka-Laylee's kickstater is pretty impressive. It successfully managed to get all the depressed beatdown Rare fans all over the world to give them money.
Its going to be really sad when the game comes out and everyone remember's how much those collectaton's sucked.

I finished Dark Souls for the first time today, I think it's probably one, if not the greatest game of last gen I've played, alongside Xenoblade Chronicles and Bayonetta.
Just played a very good couple of Dota matches. First one managed to just about outcarry a Troll Warlord with Legion Commander, with some great teamwork.
Second one we recovered from being 9-0 down in 5 or so minutes to roll over them with much smarter tower pushes.

Finally getting around to Alien Isolation. Playing it on a theater setup in the dark. Started it on hard. This game is so stressful...

Decided to stop by this independent game shop that I've seen for months but been passing it up. This place is retro heaven. Had all types of shit. Went to the NES section and found these two:
Double Dribble was a beast. Captain Skyhawk was my shit even if it was impossible.

everything else on my pc works besides Steam and Mumble. anyone have any idea why i can't use these two things? I've done basically everything that comes up when google searching
edit - Origin/Battle.net/raidcall/uPlay don't work either.
I can still somehow play GTA though..

Today I found a road sign saying GAMESTOP OUTLET
After a near death experience to steer into the gate at last second I found out a slightly bigger Gamestop with weird promos, like a 6x2 on blu-rays and in the basket there were only 19.99€ copies of Iron-Man 3, 180€ WiiUs and dumb 1€ DS games.
I bought 2 Nintendo books and the Type-0 strategy guide for half the price.
I don't even like Final Fantasy
I'm beyond salvation.
The girl I was with bought a 2GB iPod shuffle for 10€. She doesn't even know what videogames means, and she got the better deal, fml.
I then proceeded to a candy shop where I spent 20€ on blue sharks. What a time to be an adult.

You could've bought some mangoes instead. Everyone loves mangoes. I didn't even know what blue sharks were. Had to google it.
Today I completed 3 starring everything in Mario Kart 8 from 50cc to Mirror mode, DLC1+2 included.
Got 100/100 stamps.
Only missing now 200cc (Mushroom Cup already done) and reaching 10.000 coins to unlock the gold glider. Probably around 1000 coins to go.
