FFXV killed Nomura :( He'll probably leave the company in a few years...
This trailer looked like a demonstration that Square had played Xenoblade.

I'm playing through FFX HD right now actually.
The dialog is still so terrible, but the plot is way more interesting than I remember. And the battle system is definitely good (though there could be a greater variety of encounters and it's not as engaged as BKO or Grandia). Kind of weird that FFX still feels more cinematic than every RPG made since.

ffxv looked like it was nowhere near ready for release lul
shit was like 900p and looked janky as fuck
Nomura should have just stuck to kingdom hearts as his main shit

That looks really great. Might even look more appealing than Xenoblade. I can see why it's going to take them forever to finish it though.
XII was awesome. The only good one since IX.
Although I just got XIV, I'll see how I like it.
You mean Nomura killed FF. :(But XII brah.
Hasn't been a good FF since the PS2 era.

X was great breh.
I should have said XII was the only really good one since IX.
X had dumb characters and an even dumber plot - like, the most convoluted nonsensical thing ever. "Only the power of water polo can defeat my evil ghost dad who is also an evil giant flying hairy whale. Also, something something goddess end of the world, we're not sure either." It was also just as linear as XIII which everyone decided was the worst thing in the world.
The battle system was pretty good though.
I think I agree that XII is better than X eventhough I never beat XII. XII just lacked engagement in some form, it didn't really pull you in like the others, but I have supremely fond memories of it. Is that weird?

It's not even convoluted. It's actually quite conventional and can be traced in other games such as Diablo and Legend of Zelda where the evil that will destroy the world can't actually ever be truly defeated but is passed down in legend and heroes have to rise up and defeat this evil every time.
I have a feeling that you didn't catch all the humongous religious metaphors. Sin? Pilgrimages? Fayth? FFX is practically a succession of FFT if you fast forward several hundred years.

Hah! If you only knew - I was the Jungian society president in undergrad. That was a big part of what bugged me about it, the story was a complete mangling of gnosticism. Like, somebody on their dev team read a book and wrote down all the terms but didn't get what they actually related to. So you've got a sort of demiurge, a miscasting of the corruption of matter, aeons not being aeons, and I dunno...sacrificing Sophia? If your story is supposed to have archetypal resonance, you can't just throw it all in a blender and expect it to work.
LFK, what is your opinion on Xenogears and its vast references to religious stories/metaphors/texts?

Much, much better, and more philosophically interesting imo. There was this whole stream of fascination with Western esotericism in Japan in the late 90s with stuff like that and Evangelion. Xenogears was probably the best done out of all of it; Takahashi had clearly done a ton of reading and had all the parts in the right place. It's why I didn't mind the second disc being practically all dialogue, I couldn't believe I was reading that stuff in a Playstation game.

Nice. Wish the second disc was complete ;_;
I can't believe they ran out of budget on a top 3 RPG. Square really missed the boat on that one.

You are the first person I have ever encountered who has said that they actually liked the second disc of Xenogears.
That's strange. You thought FFX was convoluted (but really, as it turns out, you just didn't like the game's direction in usage of themes which is a different perspective entirely), but I thought Xenogears was. I played through that game umpteen times and I still need to read a Wiki to make sense of how so many iterations of the same person can co-exist with them(its self?)/reoccur.
"Miang is Eve but she is also your mother but she is also your mortal enemy who is also an incarnation of God."
"Id is not just a part of your ego/superego check, but an actual manifestation of self who awakens whenever you suffer pain and you awaken into a latent SSJ mode because technically you are the son of God through Miang."

Think i'll be ordering two GTX 970's to replace my 780. Still concerned about microstutter / frame pacing issues as ive never done SLI.

That's kind of the thing though - even though Xenogears is much more complex, the parts all fit together much better, imo. I felt like FFX just dumped a bunch of stuff in at the end to make the story seem bigger, but it lacked resonance.

That part's all a pretty clear metaphor derived from psychodynamic theory:
"Miang is Eve but she is also your mother but she is also your mortal enemy who is also an incarnation of God."

Micro stutter is largely a thing of the past. SLI has really improved the last few years.
I'm over here plottin if I should make a move. Going to wait until I get one of my cards back from EVGA before doing anything though.
Any preference on the stock "blower" style for SLI vs an aftermarket one like the Twin Frozr V on the MSI?Think i'll be ordering two GTX 970's to replace my 780. Still concerned about microstutter / frame pacing issues as ive never done SLI.

Not really. I've used both for SLI and haven't had many problems. Only time I had an issue was in the FT02 and that's because of the 90 degree mobo rotation and the way the heatpipes worked on the aftermarket card. The blower style will take the heat outside of the case. The other dumps it in. If you have adequate cooling that's not a big deal though. Generally the blower styles are a little more noisy when running full steam. One thing to consider if PC noise bothers you. Doesn't bother me that much as I usually have headphones on.
One other thing for SLI -- you should put your slower/weaker card in the primary slot. The second card will be the slave and will match sync with whatever clock the weaker card is running. That way the weaker card won't have a hard time keeping up with the stronger card that may OC better. Can result in system hangs or crashes if one can't keep up with the other. If you plan to OC test them individually and find their limits before installing them in SLI.

What's the best site to order replacement l_c_d laptop screens? Cracked mines on Thursday and it looks easy enough to replace by myself based on the YouTube videos I've seen.

Yeah. Thanks but no thanks. I take psychology as seriously as STEM folks entertain the humanities in general.
The anti social science view is kind of weird at some point. You have to believe that induction is pretty much impossible (since otherwise, the documented patterns of human behavior would produce valuable, predictable results) which is uhh... interesting. But to still exist in the world, you have a form a basis of understanding the world... and this has to be based on your observation of the world if you disagree with literally all documented observation of human behavior. Despite the fact that your observations are obviously ridiculously small in sample size and are of a very biased sample.
Basically, it's people denying that anything can be learned from documented observation of human behavior while they declare understanding of people based on undocumented human behavior that they have observed.
I mean, do you just hate psychology because you hate gays and psychology research says LGBT individuals are normal.

New tech hype
the new cards also have hdmi 2.0 (which is actually a nice thing...can now get 60hz on any 4k TV), more inputs on one card, more power/heat efficient which in my kind of setup would probably be a huge help and:
The Gigabyte G1 980 OC is scratching right at the Titan-Z and is killing my Titan Black.

I'm a huge fan of sociology. I use it in my own research and scholarship. Eduardo Bonilla-Silva is my intellectual inspiration, and I've modeled my teaching methodology around his praxis. If it were not for DuBois, I probably don't bother finishing undergrad. So it's not "social science" in general that I find problematic, but psychology. Psychiatry moonlighting as neurology and calling itself psychology, and I'll continue to call it pseudoscience. And much of its foundations were established on studies that, if they were to be repeated today, would be considered unethical. No, I don't buy empiricism of behaviorism. There are limits.
Where in the world did you get the impression that I hate gay people? That came out of nowhere.
No, I don't buy empiricism of behaviorism. There are limits.
Like, strictly hardcore determinist outdated BF Skinner behaviourism? Because cognitive behaviourism is pretty much the least controversial and most well established facet of modern psychology. In clinical treatments of things like depression cognitive behavioural therapy is as effective as pharmaceutical interventions with something like an 85% success rate, there's not much to argue with there.

If the same can be done with addiction, I'll be impressed.

Addiction treatments are highly particular to the substance/behaviour involved. CBT is clinically more effective than nothing, but more effective when combined with pharmaceutical treatment and change in environment. Particularly addictions which induce chemical dependencies affect brain chemistry in a way that makes treatment more effective at the neuronal/transmitter level than just the cognitive level, as it overrides the individual's capacity for top-down self regulation.

Kinect or PS4 camera. Two voices to choose. Get to choose a team and you don't join until Jan. You start out on 10 day contracts. Then get to rest free agency that off-season.
