I could write a paper on what I didn't like in Bayonetta 2 lol. From how the how they gutted combat system.(There's all these artificial limits added to comboing enemies that are more tedious to get around than anything) to the little things like how they characterized Bayonetta and presented the game as her power fantasy. While in the first game whenever you beat any boss or midboss you got a cutscene with Bayonetta wrecking them. In 2 more often than not she ends up getting tossed around at the end of boss fights for the sake of story progression. (Nothing feels weirder than getting a PP on a boss, and having them talk down to you like "That's all you have eh" or having them knock you out and send you into the next level)
Like when I think about Bayonetta 1, every aspect of it just makes so much sense to me. It's difficulty progression, the way scoring works and how those systems highlighted what was important in the game's mechanics and guided the player towards playing better. How enemies all had distinct audio cues for all their attacks so that you could keep track of them even while off screen. The original game is just full of detailed design like that down to its smallest parts.
While in Bayonetta 2...I think about the same things I praise in Bayo 1, and it just doesn't stack up in the same way. I for the life of me can't tell the difference between difficulty levels, the scoring system doesn't really highlight any of the core mechanics as being important. Umbran Climax really eliminates any concept of game balance. It just seems like the director or the team behind it didn't understand what made the first game good, or they just didn't care. They were just focused on upping the spectacle more than anything.
By DY_nasty Go To Postnever thought you'd have that opinion
i figured you'd love bayo 2 and w101
W101 I liked for the first couple weeks. But after a while it just felt like a chore to play honestly. For the same reason as Bayonetta 2. Enemies have all this mandatory "prep work" required to put them in a stun state before they can be freely comboed. And this prep work just isn't really fun or interesting in the long run. Once you figure it out it's just a barrier between you and the meat of the game that shouldn't really be there.
It just seems to me that people like to champion PG as one of the last visible studios that's "Gameplay first", and I'll admit that for a while I did as well, but I just don't see them that way anymore. I think their last 3 major titles(Rising, 101, Bayo 2) have all been more style and presentation over substance, and as a result they've kinda lost me as a fan.
I'll probably check out Scalebound, because I've been a fan of Kamiya's games in particular for so long, but I have little interest in the rest of the studio's output at this point.
I think of Bayonetta as the middle ground between the extremes that are DMC4 and Ninja Gaiden.
In that it has enemies that are fun to fight, but also has interesting combo mechanics.
I think DMC4 and Ninja Gaiden both probably outclass the game in those individual aspects (DMC4 has probably the most complex combat mechanics in any action game, and Ninja Gaiden enemies offer alot more resistance than the ones in Bayonetta) but in the process I think both games completely lack the other aspect.(DMC4 enemies are laaaaaaaaaaaaaame and Ninja Gaiden has almost zero combo potential)
Bayonetta is just the perfect action game to me and one of my favorite games of all time. So believe me when I say I tried to like the sequel. I just....don't.

So is this transformers game a fighting game or what?
Also I doubt SE gives two shits about the Xbox version of XV. The console is dead everywhere but the U.S. and the market for JRPGs on it here has to be 10-15 people. Also they put out E3 hype video that played fucking Chrono Trigger music like a bunch of asshats.
Edit: speaking of SE and xbone if those Tomb Radier pics are from that version then :/

I see your pov but to me, bayo 2 is easier to play cuz few stages in bayo 1 (you know to ones) bring down replaying the game for me.
But you correct in that 2 does leave a lot to be desired in combat and difficulty. Felt like something was off during my first play-through and lacked the oumph that made 1 feel special.
Both good games tho.
Also, Its not a bad thing to play NG1 in ninja dog mode right ;-;
By jjasper Go To PostEdit: speaking of SE and xbone if those Tomb Radier pics are from that version then :/Link?
That feel when you lose a match because someone gets impatient against a Techies, buys a Divine Rapier, charges in without a plan and gives them the rapier that lets them take your team and base out in about 45 seconds
Never played a Bayo game, but then again I've never been the biggest fan of "stylish" action Ala DMC. But I loved the ever loving fuck out of Vanquish.
Also played through Lost Planet 3 and it wasn't anywhere as bad as people made it out to be.

Why isn't someone standing up on a stage presenting and speaking in front of thousands of people tucking in their shirt?
Looks unkempt and juvenile.

Makes sense why they would move development to the new platform cause why invest in a dead console.
Wii U was fun while it lasted
Wii U was fun while it lasted
How many Nintendo consoles have done this now? Couldn't compete, partially because of 3rd party support drying up, having to support the console solo and then starting up the next console while under delivering on the last console?
By Morzingis Go To PostHow many Nintendo consoles have done this now? Couldn't compete, partially because of 3rd party support drying up, having to support the console solo and then starting up the next console while under delivering on the last console? That's the hilarious part, I still renember when they unveiled the Wii U and Reggie was talking about being able to play all the 3rd party games now in HD.
It's just so great that they don't give a fuck about the competition and just stumbled upon their on feet again.
How ignorant can you be to completely ignore certain market aspects.
Releasing a console in between the BIG new cycle (PS4,X1), when you know that these console will be more powerful and led to fewer 3rd party support.
The more hilarious point was when they didn't even try to get all that 3rd party games onto the WII U.
Bioshock,Tomb Raider, GTA and many more games were still available, Reggie just didn't care.
Nintendo of America is doing a horrible job 3rd party wise...
