This sale hasn't been that good.. but did get BL2 goty edition.. had a great session online already… well worth the 14 bucks it cost to double dip from console to PC
I agree that the sales have been unremarkable. To make things worse, these fools on Steam keep voting for the most garbage stuff on the community votes. There was this one for Strider and Double Dragon and stuff. I would have bought like 3/4 of those games but something silly won instead.
PS3 patch update speeds kill me. It's taken an hour to get the latest GT6 patch via wired. I usually get 3mb/s down on my other wired connections.
Are the speeds better on PS4?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!
After the patch downloaded and installed, the game booted... to an in-game install that's going to take 30 minutes.

Transistor is really good and interesting. For its price, I don't see why it shouldn't get GoTY nods.
Outstanding value and ....everything is just amazing.
Haven't bought too much during this steam sale. Relatively speaking of course.
Finally got some games for my xbone. Ryse has been decent in the little I played. Dead Rising 3 has been a lot of fun.

Agreed and I actually really didn't care much for Bastion. Anyway I have so many games I have never touched from previous sales I am not too concerned about the lack of anything interesting. Although I have been playing Rayman Legends and would like to get Origins hopefully it drops to sub $5.
I like Bastion far more than I am liking Transistor.
Transistor has a neat battle system, but good lord is it repetitive. Has pacing problems similar to what Okami had.

Shovel Knight is fucking amazing.
I'll be finding some time to download that this weekend. I don't care much about anything else coming out this year, so it could wind up my GOTY.
Shovel Knight is super good confirmed.
But I actually spent most of the past few days playing Super Luigi U. That game is hardcore in the best possible way. God tier 2D platformer.

Man I don't know if I've gotten worse at basketball games even though I've been playing them for 10 years, or if NBA2K14 on the next gen consoles is straight up dogshit, or a little bit of both. But I'm getting my ass handed to me even in regular single player games. Just seems like I'm dealing with heaping mounds of CPU bullshit. I'm not even on Hall of Fame difficulty.
Maybe i'mtoooldforthisshit and I'll just trade this crap in.

No, 2k14 is a decent game
Their problem is why is online still performing like we're playing on modem connections and why do we need to change the control scheme every year
Along with a bunch of other shit
Gameplay wise though I'm okay with it

ICO may have been a technical masterpiece back in 2001, but in 2014, it's boring. The game is intentionally minimalist, but it is also reductive to the point where I beat the game and still have no idea what the purpose of all of it was except the IRL goal to reduce my gaming backlog.
Shadow of the Colossus, on the other hand, is dabomb.com. I've only slayed about 6-7 of them and I'm already looking forward to my next playthrough (whenever that happens).

Anyone watching Evo this weekend?!
Ultra SFIV pools were amazing, so many damn upsets! Daigo getting bounced in straight sets was shocking.

Traded in 2K14 (still worth $20!) for Super Mario 3D World. Should have probably bought this in the first place, it's creative as hell. Every level has some fully realized mechanic that could fill a whole indie game.
I'm busy today, but I'll probably youtube the finals.

Big ups to SLAENT for the Shovel Knight recommendation.
Game is an absolute blast. Worth every penny.

I actually wrote a piece on how I thought NSMBWU was the GOAT of 2D Mario. Better than SMW (eliminated Yoshi's Island on the technicality that it isn't really a traditional Mario game). http://placetobenation.com/backloggery-beatdown-new-super-mario-bros-wiiu/
I'm both dreading and welcoming writing something on SM3DW. I was underwhelmed. I think that's because unlike the NSMBWii/U games, I actually had expectations such as Super Mario Galaxy in HD. Also, unlike the NSMB games, the players share from the same 1-up pool, so while playing with my kids, they could get slaughtered and I could still be on my merry way. In the rare instance that I do die, I'd bubble up and keep going as my kids would cheerefully pop me and I would continue to carry. Not so in SM3DW. My kids would exhaust lives faster than I could replenish them, even getting 777's from the slot machines, and sometimes, I would have to start the level over. They were also good at hoggin all the powerups, so I was much more vulnerable in this game than the 2d games.
So I played most of it by myself...which ended up being kinda boring TBQH. I would get my lives up to 70 before inviting my kids to join, and they would crush those lives in 2-3 stages.
They're all out of town until August, and I'm currently sitting at the last three super-duper-de-double-looper stages. My son called one day and asked if I beat MK8 and SM3D while they were gone, and I said no, I was waiting on them to come back.
I don't write criticism on games I have yet to beat.
I'm drowning deep in Mario Kart 8 now too. I think ignoring Mario games since the SNES has given me some kind of pent up mania, I forgot how much better they play than everything anyone else makes.
I think the secret to those super hard Mario levels is just to sit there and die 100 times in a row until you've trained your hands to do it in your sleep. It's the only way I was able to clear that Star Road castle in NSMBU. It's almost like learning a musical piece.
Yeah, they pretty much nailed the 8-bit classic feel, it's one of the surprises of the summer. I'm at the last tower now. Which version did you get?
NSMBU won't have the same newness/impact on gaming that Super Mario World did, but I can agree that it's probably a better game overall, it's tight as hell.
I paid full price for it at launch and it turned out to be one of the best value buys I've made in years, it still gets played regularly. I went through that game multiple times with family, by myself, girlfriends, it's something anyone feels comfortable playing and it has a really good mastery curve. It took me 18 months, but by the time I got that last star coin I felt like I knew thumb judo. And the challenge modes mean it's something I'll keep coming back to for a long time.
But have you played Super Luigi U yet? I actually like that a lot better. The challenge is steeper - which makes it perfect to jump into right after you've mastered NSMBU - but once you get the hang of how Luigi controls, you realize his floaty jump + jump spin can get him out of a lot of jams Mario would be insta-dead in. And the way he skids around trains you to be super precise with your jumps. I started out feeling kind of helpless but I actually felt a lot more powerful than in NSMBU by the end, and going back to that game I noticed a definite improvement in how I played.
But I also always used Luigi in Super Mario 2, which I played a lot growing up, so his controls are probably burned deep into my brain. Playing 3D world, it feels kind of wrong using anyone else.

Wii U. Probably would have gotten it on PS4 if it existed for crossplay purposes (Spelunky has consumed large portions of my life since I started playing it on Vita).Big ups to SLAENT for the Shovel Knight recommendation.

I'm about halfway through. Having a great time.
i fucking hate/love the tower in shovel knight where's it's night time and you only can see your surrounding when the lightning flashes.

I got it on Wii U as well. I wouldn't want to play this with anything other than a Pro Controller, it's too d-pad dependent.

It's why I always equip the red "lose less money when you die" armour. It's paid for itself.
So because of work/life I never had a chance to play through The Last of Us, even though I picked it up months ago when it was on sale in the PSN store.
Holy cow, playing this game gives me anxiety! So intense.

It was worth all the praise. Just keep going, it only gets better.
I just started Divinity and so far it's pretty awesome.
If anyone has it I'd love to try co op sometime.
(same for dead rising)

I have never been able to get a MK 8 game going with anyone here. I know time zone differences make it hard, but it would be cool to do a tournament sometime
I like Far Cry 3 a lot. Still sort of that mini Deus Ex with gorgeous graphics and solid gunplay thing that like Crysis (though not as good) that I really enjoy.

Play it with Listen Mode off.
There's no reason I should buy that PS4 version of the Last of Us - once I finished it I never picked it up again. But those screens of the new visuals have me tempted. Some of those cityscapes look great.
I'm not always available, even if I'm online, but I'd be up for a race or two.
If any of you guys want to add me my NNID is LiveFromToronto

Microsoft’s Xbox Originals, a series of original television projects, only debuted in June, but they’re already the casualty of CEO Satya Nadella’s new restructuring. Recode reports that Microsoft will shut down its Xbox Entertainment Studios, cutting an estimated 200 positions as part of the 18,000 job eliminations planned over the next 12 months.

Does anyone want a Destiny beta code? I got two extra for some reason. You get two extra so you can make a fire team lol
Anyone need a Destiny code on PS3?
Before the jokes, I preordered the Destiny bundle and got it for less than the cost of a new PS4 so that's why I don't have a PS4 yet.
Anyway, I have two more codes, please let me know if anyone needs one.
Also, should we make a SLAENT clan?
