You've been massive favourites from beginning to end of the EL campaign, and haven't played against a side anywhere near as good as your's, depleted by injuries or not.
You can only beat what's in front of you and all that, but you should frankly have been expecting to win the tournament for the last couple of months at least. Anything less would have been piss-poor. And I say that fully aware that I must have come across similarly when worrying about the Middlesbrough match and the like :P
When will we know who we can get in the playoff, and when will the draw be? Bring me the Red Imps.

Yeah, it's really silly to be honest.

By Laboured Go To PostDo you think we would've gotten at least closer to fourth if we had Rojo and Ibra fit? I do. I know injuries are somewhat a bad excuse but given how key those players were I think 6th became almost an inevitability. Not in any meaningful way. We dropped points to City, Swansea, Arsenal and Spurs…and finished 7 points behind 4th. We could have got closer sure but tbh I can’t see us finding 7 extra points from those games.
Hey ho, expecting better next season.
Besides, what kind of achievement is that anyway? Arsenal, Liverpool and City are average teams IMO. At best.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostWinning the Europa League is better than finishing 4th as it qualifies you directly to the Group Stage while the 4th place has to play the playoff right after the start of the Premier League and risks missing out on the Group Stage.Sure. In terms of results, this is a good outcome. You would rather this than finish 2nd and win nothing like Spurs.
But it’s still a poor level of performance over the course of the season and we have a lot of work to do to get close to the level we should be at.
In hindsight, the reason why people felt so worried probably had more to do with what was at stake more than anything else. It tends to cloud your judgement.
I'm glad this season is finally over and it'll be nice to have a rest for now. Overall maybe it was disappointing - because the league is what matters most - but we ended on a much needed high and with 2 (or 3...) pieces of silverware.
Satisfied camper.

EVERY SINGLE TIME this team had been called upon to put weaker teams away, they've floundered and outright failed every test of conviction laid before them.
So yeah, there was a reason to be concerned. Were we not tactically astute last night and with a bit of luck, Ajax would have swept us away.
United won a treble?
Don't want to pay top though.

All season I've been worrying about playing against shit teams (with good reason, similar to you lot), but I'm not in disbelief after the fact that we eventually beat enough of them to crawl over the line.

I consider the Community Shield and Super Cup to be trophies from the season prior, if you know what I mean. Probably cos of the way you get into them.
One thing sunk in aswell tonight given Jose's comments on finals and how he wins them, in big games I dont think you are ever going to see this United side fly, but you more than likely, if we get the prep time, will see us win, a trade off most people will take.
By Hitch Go To PostWhen will we know who we can get in the playoff, and when will the draw be? Bring me the Red Imps. The draw will be on the 4th of August. Teams that Liverpool can face on the play-off : Sporting, Hoffenheim, Nice, CSKA Moscow, Club Brugge, Steaua București, Viitorul Constanța, Dynamo Kyiv, Young Boys and Istanbul Basaksehir are some of the possibilities.

When was the last time England had 5 teams entering the CL?

By Francis Go To PostYeah, I can agree with that. I'm not really in disbelief myself but it's still kind of a "pinch me" moment because of just how good it feels.Never. Spain is the only one who achieved that and technically England doesn't have 5 teams in the Champions League, they have 4 and another team has the possibility of joining them.
When was the last time England had 5 teams entering the CL?
By Laboured Go To PostTruly Cruyff disciples to a man. After Arsenal beat us in that FA cup being dominated for 90 minutes and us hitting the post 3 times I lost all care for how anyone wins a cup final.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostNever. Spain is the only one who achieved that and technically England doesn't have 5 teams in the Champions League, they have 4 and another team has the possibility of joining them.Right, that's what I thought.
Liverpool will win their qualifier over two legs. I know we all like to make jokes at their expense and whatnot but they'll pull through.
By Francis Go To PostWhen was the last time England had 5 teams entering the CL?05/06 I think, since UEFA hadn't considered the possibility of a team winning the CL and failing to qualify for next season's competition, so they had to make it up on the fly. Everton lost the qualifier anyway.
When Chelsea won the EL under our lord and saviour Rafa Benitez MBE OBE imo tbh, they'd finished third anyway.
Quite happy with that list of teams we can play in the qualifier. Nobody there who I think we can easily lose to even if we play well.
Ajax lol
Just take your medicine and shut your mouths. Total football, tiki taka, pass and move, whatever. Doesn't mean shit if it gives you 65% possession and 2 bad shots on target across 90 minutes. It's a cup final, you play to win. You won't be telling your grandchildren about the time you made 27 more passes than the most expensive player in the world, and he vastly outperformed you anyway.

Not really, we won't have much of a chance against you as Jorge Jesus is already whining he won't have most of the team in top shape for the play off because of the Confederations Cup and the U21 Euro.

Iirc, most right thinking people found it appalling how Miliband seemed to lose votes through being awkward and not being able to eat a bacon sandwich. A person's appearance and the style of their interactions with other people generally have very little effect on how they will perform as Prime Minister.
Despicable as May might be I think people would do well to remember the above and avoid making any kind of inference from such superficial information. Raising the level of discourse starts with everyone making an effort

Doesn't help obviously when newspapers legit latch onto it to try and sway public opinion. Its the kind of thing that should really be in opinion columns with silly captions, but has somehow made its way onto the front pages.

Not terribly surprising given that they then went on to lose 2-5 in round 1 of the UEFA Cup against Dinamo Bucureşti and finished 11th in the PL.
Although it's strange considering they finished 4th the season before but maybe that was just their anomaly.

I have a friend who used to work under May when she was head of the Home Office, she truly is as discompassionate as she seems, a trait many mistake for strength and or conviction.
He switch from the Remain to the Hard Brexit shows just how power-hungry she is, and she is willing to assume whatever position to achieve that power (see recent flip floppings).
Odious woman.

By Laboured Go To PostTruly Cruyff disciples to a man.Lost a bit of respect to the Ajax coaching team because of this.
The fact that they tried to push through the middle everytime, which wasn't really a problem for United this season and refused to take advantage of our left flank which has been a weakness throughout the season makes me wonder what went on in their mind.
And then went on how the match was boring and wasn't real football. Arrogant schmucks.

We're renewing Mario's contract! Well chuffed
Alex Sandro Del Piero is next too, apparently it's all done just pending the end of the season.
Both Dybello and Bonucci were done and announced recently
Lets go Project 2022!
But wait, Alves too, hand him a 10 year extensionnnnn
