Just want this tie to be alive in the second leg
Yesterday's match was a massive kick in the bollocks in that regard

By jtb Go To PostI disagree. The mid-00s Roma team and Totti have a hugely influential tactical legacy that dominated the game for nearly a decade, particularly as it seemed like the 20-goal-per-season striker was becoming an extinct species.
To compare a football player (one of eleven) to athletes that compete in solo competition is disingenuous bordering on idiotic.
So influential and yet they didn't even realize what they were doing.

No it isn't, because we still judge the best players individually. No one ever argues who the best team is, they argue who the best player is.
It's a sport of teams ruled by individuals.

Because we already know who the best teams are. That's literally why we have leagues and fixtures.

The first one through the door rarely reaps the rewards of their innovation. Innovator's curse, and all that.
Higuain has taken to just avoiding chances full stop instead of properly bottling them? Fair enough.

So 2016/17 Leicester are as good a team as 1998/99 United or 2003/04 purely because they won the Premier League some time? What you just said is massively reductive :lol.
In terms of history, Totti will go down as a great player who fell short of being in the upper echelons of gods because he showed too little professional ambition and was unable to inspire his club to reach unparalleled heights, unlike the likes of Messi, Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo et al. They each did whatever they could to be the best around. Totti stayed at Roma, and while that is great in itself, it carves him out as the greatest cult hero of all time as opposed to one of the greatest players (at least in terms of fulfilled potential) of all time.
I'm not contesting he isn't great. He's probably my favourite non-United player ever. But he is not the greatest player of all time, nor is he even in the same stratosphere as those who have contributed to winning millions and millions of trophies for their sides. And not in a 'Thomas Vermaelen won La Liga and all he did was wank into Alex Song's Lucozade' way. Messi has inspired his side to numerous CLs and leagues. Maradona dragged Argentina to a World Cup. Ronaldo's just scored consecutive hat tricks against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in the CL knockout rounds.
If Totti wanted to become one of the greatest of all time, he would have moved to a club where he would be expected to be so.

If only Totti was born in Milan/Turin.

This may have helped his case.
Totti is among the Players of his Generation, and sometimes those players don't achieve everything they ought to.

I understand your points. I just disagree that that should determine greatness.
Totti would not have become any more a magical player had he moved to RM, Barca, or United.
