By WoodenPapangu Go To PostI fucking loved Ivan. But that last one to two seasons really soured me on him. He was so fucking bad.Everything before that was so good though, it was either him or Ferreira!
Only been a Pool fan since 2008, so don't want to make a list, but seen some great players. Never had the feed for games before then. Wish I saw Fowler live. His two footed goals were amazing and for a shorter player he was good in the air.
By Grizzled Cola Go To PostIm ready for the youth
Please let Gomes start
He wont
But imagine Pobga, Fosu, Gomes midfield
I am forgiving a few betrayals here and only basing this on the enjoyment I had in seeing this players wear our jersey.
GK : I gave the edge to Patricio because he came through our academy and has been our starting GK for 11 years. He was given his debut against Maritimo in Madeira back in November 2016 and he saved a penalty on the 75th minute to guarantee us a win. He bailed us out so many times over the years and has grown in quite a quality GK.
Schemeichel is in there because, while I liked football before, the 98/99 CL final was the game that truly made me love football. To see the Great Dane come to us on the following season was a dream and he helped us win our first title in 18 years. His stay was short but memorable.
LB : Rui Jorge was a solid LB that was part of the squad that gave us the only two league titles I ever saw us won. I don't think we ever had LB as reliable and consistent since he left in 04.
CB : Beto was the club captain for quite a few years. He embraced the mentality of the club, he was a defensive powerhouse with great aerial ability, scoring 21 goals for us. His lowest point for us must have been a match against Benfica were we lost 2-1 and he scored two own goals.
He was the "Gaitan to Man United" of those days, with every portuguese sports newspaper linking him with Real Madrid for a couple of summers.
CB : Oh man, how I wish we still had André Cruz. Part of the miracle 3 January transfers that pushed us to title win in 99/00, André Cruz was a solid CB with a knack for free kicks, scoring 9 goals in the 2 and half years he stayed here. I don't think any player since him as scored that many goals from free kicks.
RB : Cesar Prates, another one of the miracle 3, he was a quick defender with a powerful right foot. Another instrumental part of our 2 last league titles.
DM : Oceano was one of the hardest working midfielders we ever had and the fans recognized that and he quickly became on their favorites.
I remember him mostly from his second spell at the club, after spending 3 years in Spain, where he played until he was nearly 36 and even scored 12 goals on his final season. He had to play as GK once for the final minutes in a match against Porto and helped us secure a good 2-2 away draw in the Supercup (which was then played in 2 legs).
LM : Cristiano was always destined to greatness. He only played for the main team for one season when he was 17 but he was already something else. 2 particular days stand in my memory with the first being the match against Moreirense on 7th of November of 2002.
There was a lot of hype regarding the match because there was a lot off the field issues with Mario Jardel and he only had recently returned to the team and while everyone was upset with Jardel, we desperately needed his goals after a bad start of a season.
All eyes were on the Brazilian that night but there was another surprise in the starting eleven. A young kid who had impressed in a few last minute appearances in a couple of matches and had a lot of buzz surrounding him.
We were all expecting a goal from Jardel but the 17 year old Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to do something special for his first starting appearance.
He ended up scoring another goal from an header in that match and completely stole the headlights. He ended up playing 31 times for us in his only season for us. We were all expecting great things from him in the following season but he put on a show in the inauguration of our stadium against Manchester United. The long rumored story is that Ferguson was already interested in him before the friendly and was willing to let him stay with us one more year but after that amazing performance, he refused to leave Alvalade without signing him up.
Ronaldo has always shown great respect and appreciation to the club and is example to all the kids in the academy. He wasn't the most talented player we ever had, there was someone who had even more talent than Ronaldo and Ronaldo has stated it many times, but his hard work and his focus in getting better and better has turned him into one of the all time greats.
AM : I loved watching Pedro Barbosa play. He had a posture similar to Zidane, he sometimes seemed he was gliding on the field, dancing a waltz around players instead of playing football. Owner of a thunderous right foot, he helped Sporting win 2 league titles, 2 Supercups, 1 Portuguese Cup and reached the UEFA Cup final in 2005 on his final season.
RM : When the ball reached the feet of Quaresma, you were automatically on the edge of your seat. You would never know what he would pull off next, it seamed like he had an infinite box of tricks, a magician on the pitch.
He could have had a much better career but what he had in talent, he lacked in mentality. Still, a damn joy to watch and one I will always remember, even after his multiple spells at Porto.
I thought of putting Nani over Quaresma because Nani has shown much more respect to us, and while he was an incredible player to watch, I feel Quaresma made me jump out of my seat more times.
I can easily see Gelson Martins overcome one of this two in the future, if he stays a couple more seasons with us.
ST : Liedson was a goal scoring machine. 173 goals in 313 games for us, he was a rat in the box, dodging defenders with his slender figure. He scored some incredible goals for us and was a menace for any defender.
ST : Mario Jardel is on of the greatest strikers I ever saw in my life. He only had one good season with us but, my good, what a season. 42 league goals in 30 games, 55 goals total in 42 games. When he arrived in Sporting from Galatasary, he had already been a legend for Porto with an incredible 168 goals in 170 matches but that 01/02 season with us was his best ever and practically gave us our last league title.
A dominating force in the air, most of his goals came from headers but he could pull off some incredible goals with his feet also.
(yes, that's Jorge Jesus in the end, he was Vitoria de Setubal's manager back then)
Unfortunately, money and drugs clouded his head after that season. He was truly one of the deadliest men in the box in Europe during the 1996 and 2002 but his lifestyle off the field led him to multiple injuries and to a disastrous final years of his career.
Edit : fucking hell. It took me 2h to write this.

I reckon all of these will #makeit btw. All 3 of them.
Januzaj starting today genuinely infuriates me. Play one of these three, they will at least fucking try not to get embarrassed.
By Laboured Go To PostQuite like that team bar Rooney. Reckon Axel and TFM should swap.Yeah. Fosu pogs could be amazing
I really like our team today, assuming it's a diamond with Bobby and Sturridge up front, Coutinho and Wijinaldum in front of Can, with Lallana at the tip.
By Zabojnik Go To PostDybala nutmegging fools left and right today, lol.Right way to introduce himself to Alli, innit. #BringMeDybala
By Grizzled Cola Go To PostShould change the club's name to muppets in red.
Just saw a basketball player, Ginobli from the San Antonio Spurs, nutmeg a guy with a dribble. A basketball dribble, and it was legal. Never even considered trying that. I had the crossover (easy) and texas 2 and 3 step (takes practice) but a nutmeg in basketball is nearly unheard of.

someone at my work tried to argue with me that klopp is no better than Brendan, to which I obviously disagreed.

Klopp is very clearly better than Rodgers, and I liked Rodgers a lot. Good work, KidSr.
