Food for thought: if the NBAPA had agreed to smoothing the cap (like the owners wanted), then Durant wouldn't have been able to sign with the Warriors and Golden State most likely would've had to let Iguodala walk after they re-signed Harrison Barnes.
He could have forced his way there but it would have had to be via sign and trade.

After the saltiness of this series and MVP race subsides, I honestly wish Westbrook figures it out. It took Harden two changes in coach, an embarrassing playoff berth and exit, and an All-NBA snub to figure out his selfish play wasn't going to cut it. Wonder if Presti and Donovan are content to surround Westbrook with the Semaj Christons of the world to exaggerate his individual brilliance, or if they actually care about winning.
I think in today's league you can't justify playing a guy like Roberson/Thabo heavy minutes next to your superstar, no matter how good he is on defense. Poor shooting at one of the wing positions is an unwinnable gamble against the top offensive teams.
I'm telling you, OKC brought Harden off the bench to stifle his contract value ala what the Bulls tried doing with Butler. There's no justification to have him come off the bench next to YNB/Durant given what the Warriors and Heat were doing with three ball dominant players. Harden's better off in Houston.
If Harden had agreed to re-sign with OKC, I bet you he starts for them that season.

Calvin Watkins, the Rockets guy, got the boot too. Always seemed like good coverage. Bummer. Hopefully Sage Steele gets the axe.

most of them knew this was coming down the pine. it was widely reported in the press that ESPN was lining up massive firings. the writing was on the wall when Grantland got shuttered, though a lot of that was politics as well.

I'd hate to be the officiial who had to call that though.

I wonder how many of these guys try to get back in the industry. Can't imagine there are many jobs out there.

That was probably part of it, but they really did have more than enough ball handling & scoring in the starting lineup, and Harden wasn't doing much else. Staggering things and having a guy who could outscore backups while the other two sat made sense.
I think you guys are forgetting just how undervalued Harden was in 2012. He had just come off a terrible Finals and while he won 6MOTY, his career trajectory was generally assumed to be more Manu than MVP. He surprised almost everyone when he hit the ground running as the main option in the 2012 regular season.
It was reported that we made offers to Toronto for Valanciunas, to Washington for Beal, and to GS for Klay. All were rejected.

They probably wanted really valuable throw-ins like Linas Kleiza or Ed Davis. Colangelo was right to say no.
IT2 carries make a lot of sense when you're trying to figure out how someone who is 5'9" is doing so well in the league.
Being that short probably helps with covering up his discontinued dribbles.

Harden was playing starters minutes, just off the bench. And he ran the offense when he was on the court with YNB & Durrant, particularly late, because other wise it just stifled into ... what you see with YNB, just bad ISO's.
It was reported that we made offers to Toronto for Valanciunas, to Washington for Beal, and to GS for Klay. All were rejected.
And he was happy to do so. Come off the bench.
No one could really for see that he would become a 25, 8 & 8 guy though.
If the Cavs repeat, I can't wait to see how the Warriors try to add that "one more piece" and which serviceable aging star goes to Cleveland for the "challenge to threepeat." If the Warriors win, same thing in reverse, just repeat instead of threepeat.

I will go burn my signed Steph Curry jersey and go get a Lebron jersey and boycott my team until Lacob is gone if we somehow lose to them again.
I was serious about my bet last season with the baseline 60 win Thunder. I'll take this one up if anyone wants.

I won't burn my Klay one because I know Klay shows up for the postseason. If they fuck up I'm blaming Curry for being shook and KD for dissing Based God.

Can we make a comparison video? Half those carries don't look like carries until the tape slows. How many other stars benefit from this. Is is just IT? If IT benefits more, how much?

By shun Go To PostNot just Presti. Hot take but…Harden didn't become that way over night and he needed a new coach to do so...
YNB is 28, he's not a good shooter, not a good defender, has some of the worst shot selection in the league, but he dominates the paint with his athleticism and his ability to cut and beat defenders off the dribble and score. Brute force everything, amazing scoring. He's this generation's Allen Iverson, but is doing it in dominating fashion in his aggressive style of play. But at 28, he's still learning to pass and learn how to facilitate an offense that doesn't solely revolve around him as the prime or only option.
He has at most 3-4 more seasons, before potentially declining in a Allen Iverson or Tony Parker-esque fashion. A very, ugly decline considering what we know those players for what they were before hitting the age of 31-32. Unless YNB learns that his skillset, as impressive and as it is, is also actively detrimental to his success, his athletic type of play won't translate by that age and it's not going to be pretty.
YNB put up an insane season and gave fans some of the most exciting ball in a while, Westbrook unless he learns his flaws and develops into a more complete player, has a smaller title and prime window than both his former teammates KD and Harden with how much he relies on his hyper athletic play.
Both Presti and YNB need to put in work this offseason and think real hard about where the flaws truly lie on this OKC roster. Using excuses like being young, first time in this situation, and losing KD isn't going to cut it. If Harden could turn shit around, YNB could too. He needs to.
By reilo Go To PostIs there a logistical reason this game is on so early?
They had to get both games on TNT & didn't want to start a game in Boston at 9:30p local time.
Phaze was right though, 2nd quarter and there are still a lot of empty seats.
