I don't think either Chris Paul or Blake get max contracts this offseason other than if they stay with the Clippers.

The Spurs have the worst depth in their guard rotation in the league. Arguably worse than the Sixers.
They know to get a young and athletic point guard, which I don't think is possible since the most talented free point guards other than Steph this offseason is Derrick Rose, or George Hill, or Jeff Teague.
I don't think the Spurs want to pay them that money for guys who might start their decline the next year and have regrets like they might be having with LaMarcus Aldrige right now.
It's either live with Tony Parker and Patty Mills until 2018, overpay one of those other dudes near 30, or have Kawhi complete his evolution of being a Kobe-Lebron hybrid and become the primary ball handler.

BTW. This is very premature. But i feel bad for clipper fans. First good team in how long for them?
And they could never get over the hump of the second round. That's annoying. I hope they're left with a decently competitive team next year.

I'm not really a fan of anything that gets the ball out of Giannis's hands a lot. And CP3 really doesn't like anyone else doing anything when he's on the court.
I think i'd rather see him on
Raptors, Spurs, Wolves, Jazz.
My new favorite stat of this post-season. YNB literally had a higher usage rate than Jordan did vs the Monstars.

Westbrook is the guy that doesn't let anyone participate because he thinks he can get your project done faster on his own.

These playoffs have really shown that Brogdon's probably not going to be a PG, and the Bucks really have nobody who can handle the ball effectively and penetrate - even Delly, weirdly, who I thought was better at that. After Toronto started fouling them every time in transition and took away their fast break, they've been stumbling over themselves when they've had to put the ball on the floor. I think that team would kill with a penetrating guard like Paul, who'd rack up assists with all their 3 point shooters and set Giannis up like Blake.
I think he'd hate Spurs life. Too much sharing the ball. And he'd probably murder a control freak like Thibs yelling stuff from the sidelines all game. But the Jazz would be great for him, most of those dudes would be happy to play D & get out of his way. And Casey's iso-fest + pick & roll playbook would be right up his alley.
bucks would be infinitely better with a guy like barea and a no name shooer like troy daniels or something. they have really easy problems to fix - giannis is amazing, but he's too much of a noob to adapt to defenses yet

I think for Giannis to get to that next super elite level, the needs to learn to do that though. be able to put the ball on the floor. And i don't think CP3 would ever let him handle it enough for him to develop that.
(If he's healthy, i'd rather see Goran Dragic on the Bucks.).
Thibs by all measure has backed off from being super controlling of the offense. And with guys who are elite beta's like Wiggins & LaVine on the wing he'd be free to handle as much as he wants. And then you've got KAT who should be everything Blake is and more.
It's not great because of Cp3's Age. But out outside that...

Yeah with Bosh coming off the cap Miami is one of the few teams who could make a play for Paul and Melo and maintain most of their current roster. Also that might explain the PR article "sorry I was a dick to Wade but see I didn't spaz on Lebron". Gotta remind their friends to say good things.
Anyhow Riley is such a win now guy I just don't believe his bullshit about "I'm not chasing a whale" to pay Dion market value.
🤔
(P.S. If you expect Russ to ever say anything positive about Beverley you're dreaming. Dude probably cost us a Finals appearance in 2013 on some cheap bullshit.)

I dont think we have any regrets with LMA
But you're right about our PG, I dont know where we're going to find someone but as much as we may have been statistically the second best team in the NBA it's been the case for a few seasons now without a new PG we have zero chance of winning the ring unless Kwahi ascends even further than he already have. Which would effectively mean having to turn us into a completely one man team which just isnt the spurs style.

What's your MVP's excuse for playing like shit for much of the series?
He rolled his ankle in game 3 or is that unacceptable
Fortunately our GM did his job properly this season .
But sure...Continue to defend your players channeling of kobe levels of chucking.
Can I just confirm that the Rockets won this series with a hurt "MVP"?

When players are used to actually getting the ball during season they tend to play well when called upon.
On the bright side you potentially have a individual trophy and 1st round exit you can use to fill highlight tapes until you decide upon what the next great Presti move will be.

And I think I am going to start saying McCollum ruined our chance at the title when he destroyed Conley's face just to make me feel better.
By blackace Go To PostSo 3 of your bench players played way more than your starters… but yeah it is a total broad sweeping statement… gtfo with that noiseSo you using Game 4 to back up your point, while conveniently omitting Game 3 where Harden went for 44 points on 76.1 TS% and the team still lost is perfectly fine?
You using Nene as a prime example of Harden's better supporting cast based on one performance is perfectly fine? In the regular season he couldn't play in back to backs, played less games than Kanter and averaged 9.1 / 4.2 to Kanter's 14.3 / 6.7. But why be selective and look at the entire regular season, when we can be comprehensive and look at one exceptional performance?
You can pretend that OKC's roster situation was dire and that there was a 'laughable' talent gap between these two teams. It isn't going to stop me from thinking that line is a played out exaggeration. Westbrook's style of play, and the way Donovan enabled him, makes him as much a culprit as a victim of his team's situation.
By shun Go To PostBlocking your own teammate's put back so you can have the rebound and the ball.Focussing on your own stats instead of involving and developing your own teammates. The truest definition of most valuable.

It's more of a statement about the supporting casts than it is an indictment of Harden.
(FWIW I still like James a lot and every Thunder fan wishes he was still in OKC.)

Is that why he was getting booed when he was playing at Chesapeake?
After the saltiness of this series and MVP race subsides, I honestly wish Westbrook figures it out. It took Harden two changes in coach, an embarrassing playoff berth and exit, and an All-NBA snub to figure out his selfish play wasn't going to cut it. Wonder if Presti and Donovan are content to surround Westbrook with the Semaj Christons of the world to exaggerate his individual brilliance, or if they actually care about winning.

By blackace Go To PostSo Nene, Eric and Lou didn't go off the entire series? lol ok…So you making the better supporting cast argument for Westbrook is limited to this series?
There wasn't a laughable gap when we were relying on Brewer and Ennis to make up for an injured Beverley or Gordon, but I guess your recency bias prevents you from remembering that far back.

Oh ok.. Let's talk about other things that you aren't doing anymore
By blackace Go To PostBut are you still relying on Brewer or Ennis? The only reason I'm debating this is in the context that Harden's regular season MVP candidacy is invalidated by his supporting cast.
No?
Oh ok.. Let's talk about other things that you aren't doing anymore
You not mentioning the supporting cast argument after Game 3 but bringing it up after Game 4 draws parallels in my mind to people doing the same thing pre and post-All-Star break (trade deadline period).
This idea that he's had all this help all along is a load of rubbish, but people like you only want to push that narrative. Forget that Lou Will only played 23 games for us. Forget that Brewer played 58 games for us this season shooting 23.4% from 3. We've always had this level of shooting around Harden.
By blackace Go To PostNext season is a big one for Presti…Not just Presti. Hot take but...
YNB is 28, he's not a good shooter, not a good defender, has some of the worst shot selection in the league, but he dominates the paint with his athleticism and his ability to cut and beat defenders off the dribble and score. Brute force everything, amazing scoring. He's this generation's Allen Iverson, but is doing it in dominating fashion in his aggressive style of play. But at 28, he's still learning to pass and learn how to facilitate an offense that doesn't solely revolve around him as the prime or only option.
He has at most 3-4 more seasons, before potentially declining in a Allen Iverson or Tony Parker-esque fashion. A very, ugly decline considering what we know those players for what they were before hitting the age of 31-32. Unless YNB learns that his skillset, as impressive and as it is, is also actively detrimental to his success, his athletic type of play won't translate by that age and it's not going to be pretty.
YNB put up an insane season and gave fans some of the most exciting ball in a while, Westbrook unless he learns his flaws and develops into a more complete player, has a smaller title and prime window than both his former teammates KD and Harden with how much he relies on his hyper athletic play.
Both Presti and YNB need to put in work this offseason and think real hard about where the flaws truly lie on this OKC roster. Using excuses like being young, first time in this situation, and losing KD isn't going to cut it. If Harden could turn shit around, YNB could too. He needs to.
