By Smokey Go To PostSteven Adams should have to explain how NeNe dropped 28 on himHarden should have to explain why he needed Nene to carry him to a road victory.
If you polled GMs every one of them would take Adams over Nene . All of em.

Now we getting somewhere
So like most of the Thunder roster
So it's fair to say they're being outplayed and possibly out coached
Is that fair Dongo
I mean.... he's 5'9
And he's NOT that fucking quick either. I don't understand why being more physical with him and playing up is off the table. Tony Parker used to do the same things.
Play up, Stop letting the guy preheat his drives, and run him into the wall.

You know what? I didn't even think to check. I just assumed that no hometown media would go after the guy given the team's reputation as North Oklorea.
....
North Korhoma?
I dunno. Guys who control media stuff too tight.
By Kibner Go To PostCool vid of Draymond switching onto all five (e: or four out of five if you don't consider the drop into a soft triple team after the initial action as him guarding that player) opponents on a single possession.
I can't stand the dude, but things like that is why it's a close race between him and Gobert for DPotY.
Dick-kickers can get dick-kicked, but that was awesome.

By reilo Go To PostI remember when Gondo used to name Roberson as a reason why the Harden trade was good for OKC.Gonna need to see the receipts on this slander.
(Also, his FT shooting has never been good, but he is clearly shook and has serious yips about it. I wish he would try shooting underhanded.)
And while he's a huge offensive liability, we could get away with that when we had Durant.
I'm an unrepentant homer, I'll admit it
I just honestly can't remember ever saying what reilo says I did. To be fair though, I've written a LOT of words defending the Thunder. :)

Again, that was predicated on having Durant. Roberson makes a lot less sense when you don't have great scorers surrounding him. In hindsight we should have traded Durant for a king's ransom and drafted Giannis, but that isn't how reality works.
Imagine if Riley had Lebron and Bosh in the Summer of 2011 and decided to trade Wade because he thought Kent Bazemore and Willie Caulie-Stein were more important for the Heat's championship potential.

gondo has no limits my god
The post has such conviction too lol
That isn't why Harden was traded. It was to avoid the repeater tax. Obviously a huge miscalculation at the time and I admit that. But you can only try to make the best decision at the time.
It also isn't Presti's fault that an unprecedented spike in the cap allowed the Spurs and Warriors to recruit Durant without making any sacrifices.
The Harden trade gets harped on endlessly but the single biggest factor behind our failure to chip was injuries.

And I have never said the trade was "good." I said we could afford to lose him and still chip in a different configuration, which is undeniably true.
Again, everything I say gets twisted and spun into the most ridiculous possible interpretation. Same with earlier this playoffs and people putting words in my mouth about the MVP race.
Won't be long before I read "Gondo said he wouldn't trade Roberson for Harden" I suspect.

Wasn't it known for a while that a spike was coming. Maybe not by this amount but harden was gone over the reluctance to pay 2 mill?
Also how do you have someone with the potential of harden and stash him on the bench
Okc was a mistake

By Smokey Go To PostWasn't it known for a while that a spike was coming. Maybe not by this amount but harden was gone over the reluctance to pay 2 mill? No, it wasn't. If it was then we obviously would have kept him.
And nobody really knows what happened in the negotiations except the Thunder and Harden, and none of them are talking.
It was reported that Harden was shocked when he was shipped off, and supposedly Presti gave Harden an ultimatum that he needed to agree to the extension or get traded. Played hardball wayyyy too hard.
Harden probably still wishes he could have been part of a potential dynasty but I have a hard time believing he'd be getting $200 million from Adidas as the third banana either.
By diehard Go To PostQuestion: If Joe Ingles was actually athletic, would he be the best player in the league?
By reilo Go To PostI am going to pretend this was reilo's answer to your question, diehard.
Really, the biggest thing they could have done was just amnesty Perk. Then they could have kept their big four without going into repeater tax territory.
The math is complicated (especially when you're trying to fit 4 max/near-max guys) and the Perk thing is partly true, but the roots of this go all the way back to the Tyson Chandler non-trade the first year they were in OKC.
One of the great what-ifs in NBA history. Presti really outstmarted himself on that one. You got Tyson Chandler for Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox and you void the trade because of his toe? fuuuuuuuuuuuuu
That one still kinda pisses me off. We probably make the finals in 2011 since it was Dallas who beat us in the WCF.

By Kibner Go To PostReally, the biggest thing they could have done was just amnesty Perk. Then they could have kept their big four without going into repeater tax territory. But you see, Perkins was the key to championship potential. His thuggery was irreplaceable.
Remember when Perkins got a 4yr/$33mil extension and prevented the Thunder from re-signing Harden? Good times.
Like every one of you guys wouldn't be trying to talk yourselves into how it might work out okay in that situation. I watched an entire fanbase try to talk themselves into Joey Graham as a Vince Carter replacement. (Career ppg: 5.9)
Was it a historically dumb move? Yep. Did Thunder management take heat for cheaping out even at the time? Yep.
But nobody knew just how good Harden was. There was a LOT of debate back & forth. I can tell you nobody anywhere breathed the words "MVP potential." He was a good scorer racking up points against backups and couldn't/didn't defend. He could just as easily have turned out to be hairy Jamal Crawford.

I think we all eventually come to a point where we stop defending a bad move even if we defended it at the time. Gondo keeps defending it as the right move to make and it's been five years and now Durant is gone.
And I think people were talking All-Star at minimum back then. Everyone even thought that having Harden come off the bench was bizarre and a pseudo-Popovich move (where Harden === Manu, but come on). Trading Harden was the Thunder FO thinking they were smart enough to fix the move down the line. They never did.

I think people were debating how close he could get to prime Manu. Like, would he just be a good starter or ascend to actual All-Star?
I also think that OKC knew his true potential all along but they played him off the bench to limit his value ala what the Bulls tried to do with Butler. I just didn't realize they'd go to such a level to save a penny.
Joe Ingles is actually what Dellavedova was falsely hailed as being. Pretty solid defender, can hit a big shot, smart player, but not ever going to be a main piece. Just a solid, important role player.
