When did the East get such a trash reputation? Aside from Heat Cheat, only guys worth a shit to ever willingly come out here in FA were Joe Johnson to ATL, Amar'e to NY (and both guys were leaving Phoenix, fancy that), Billups to DET, and like...Hedo to Orlando/Whiteside from the DLeague -> MIA. Nearly every good player in the last 15 years to switch from West -> East was via trade. Kidd, Sheed, Shaq, KG, Allen, Shard 120, Melo, Deron, Dragic.
If teams with talent, money, and decent night life like WAS and BOS can't attract anyone in FA, what hope does a team like CHA, IND or MIL have? Tanking and flipping assets seems like a much better bet.

Legit question: Does the fact that the Celts are the #4 team in Boston (Pats, Sox and Bruins) have any effect here? Boston fans are notoriously racist too.

given the league makeup i think the racist thing matters more than them being 4th. when you can get the same money from every other team why would you bother with boston.
The fact that the Knicks are able to attract free agents to NY (and in the case of Lee even convince them to take less) to play for a bad team yet they still suck really highlights the incompetence of the franchise.

I find the Sox and Bruins being more beloved than the Celtics hard to believe, but I don't live there so I don't really know.
By Smokey Go To Postthen you switch to death until you make this kat play defense
it's not as simple as saying "just switch him onto kyrie"
Warriors have the best defense in the NBA for a reason. Curry will have to bear down and try to stay in front of a playmaker occasionally - no defense is perfect. but i think kyrie would rather blow by bradley at the top and meet the likes of olynyk and horford at the rim than get by curry and see durant and draymond.
By KingGondo Go To PostDon't forget that LMA almost went to Phoenix for some reason. That was still hilarious to me. It was his #2 choice after the Spurs and his argument was "I want to go to a contender" lmao.
By Trey Go To PostI find the Sox and Bruins being more beloved than the Celtics hard to believe, but I don't live there so I don't really know.As an outsider, it seems obvious to me that the Red Sox are way more popular. I don't follow hockey to enough of a degree to know if the Bruins are third.
By Trey Go To PostI find the Sox and Bruins being more beloved than the Celtics hard to believe, but I don't live there so I don't really know.
*Totally anecdotal*
Nearly all the Celtics fans I know up here (I live in Boston area) are front-runners from the KG-era. It goes Sox>Pats>Bruins>Celtics. I think even up to this season there was no waiting list for C's season tickets, while the Bruins have had one for years. There are casuals around here who will mouth off about being "Lebron fans" or "Kobe fans" or "Curry fans", but you might get a bloody mouth and your tires slashed for rocking a NY Giants or Yankees or Canadians hat at the wrong time of day.
I swear IT's 50+ and Olynyk's Game 7 was the most hype AF I've ever seen C's fans on FB with the current team, nearly no one I know watched Game 3 vs Cavs in real time. TD Garden can be dead quiet if the team is down even 10 points during the regular season.
Still, young couch + decent young core + picks + money + history SHOULD mean at least one guy in the top 20 excited to play here. The Orioles incident probably set the city back another 10 years for FAs (well, except for white guys living in Utah).
maybe it's just recent success. Celtics haven't been championship caliber for a while. you look at the celtics history though, you'd think they'd be more iconic in the area.

You'd think so! Especially in comparison to the Sox/Bruins/Pats. It's not like the Bruins were that good throughout the 80s and 90s or early 00s, either, their success is only recent, too. And the Red Sox were terrible for 100 years and the Pats didn't know what a winning season was until Belichik/Brady.
Its just easy as fuck to be a Pats fan now

Most of the Celtics championships were from 1969 and older. Nobody alive gives a fuck lol

2008
That's a lot of championships. Only Bulls and Lakers have had more since the 70s.

I mean, Larry Bird seems like he'd be kind of relevant. I think anywhere normal the Celts would be a bigger deal, it's just because they've got so many championships in that city that the impact is diluted.
Also, I'm always surprised any time any of you guys says anything about hockey, because it seems to have zero media presence in the US.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostAlso, I'm always surprised any time any of you guys says anything about hockey, because it seems to have zero media presence in the US.I think to the average American, the NHL really does a lot to make itself unpopular and niche. They lost a season, they lost ESPN coverage, the NBC coverage they do get is bad, like the lousy broadcast team with Pierre and the lousy studio show with Roenick and Milbury, and they don't market star players, except Crosby and Ovechkin. (And definitely not McDavid or Matthews.)
Also, do you know that the Cup Final airs on cable in the States? NBC has literally nothing to air in the summer and the league can't even get every one of their Final games over the air.

If most Boston fans had this sort of awareness of the celtics' dominant history, them being 4th makes a lot of sense.

Exactly. Celtics have as many championships as the other three Boston teams combined and have multiple championship teams in every decade of the NBA but one, and they're 4th.
Goofy if true.
Why are people drawing a distinction between FA and a player being traded in their last year? For the all stars, its basically the same thing.
A lot of east teams don't get big stars going there because a lot of them are trash organisations that don't have their shit in order.
There's no reason they can't get players other than themselves.

Is it just a fanbase / region thing then? Football is usually numero uno, but it seems like the Sox and the Bruins should have taken a back seat at some point.
