I just don't get why everybody is late to the Phil sucks party. Phils done a lot of dumb shit but his decision to keep Melo and try to build around him is by far the worst and that was the first thing he did.
Phil's obsession with The Triangle is fucking sad.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/kristaps-porzingis-unhappy-phil-jackson-knicks-015636997.html
What the fuck is wrong with this dude.
Porzingis isn’t alone. Players are privately fuming that they want no part of the organization’s summer slate of triangle offense regimen at the team’s suburban New York practice facility, league sources told The Vertical. In reality, there’s an open rebellion to the triangle – for the offense itself, and by extension, the discord and dysfunction that it’s implementation has burdened upon everyone.
It isn’t only Jackson’s laborious organizational emails about the triangle – demands of emphasis on schooling players on the reverse pivot move, or the proper passing techniques – but his increasing insistence on the coaching staff and players that the obsolete offense become fully functional for the 2017-18 season.
Inside and outside the Knicks, people see a franchise in disrepair: Jackson’s open war with Anthony, the failed trade for Derrick Rose and the $72 million contract albatross of a broken-down Joakim Noah. Players grumble of a support staff that is far more concerned about creating an illusion of hard work with management and ownership than facilitating winning, a media-relations staff that is suffocating and intrusive, and a management/coaching dynamic that’s made Hornacek look like a puppet.
Beyond moving Anthony out of town, Jackson sees the resolution of the franchise’s issues through the prism of an offense the coaches don’t want to teach and that the players don’t want to run.
“To Phil, the culture is the triangle,” a league source involved in the dynamic told The Vertical.
After his first season as Knicks coach, Hornacek is still trying to incorporate a system that is foreign to him, armed with a Jackson-installed assistant coach, Kurt Rambis, who is beyond unpopular with the players, league sources said. When players want coaching and teaching, they get yelling, sources said. Most wonder about Rambis’ allegiances, because after all, he’s Jackson’s guy, not Hornacek’s.
The Knicks will revisit Anthony trade talks closer to the NBA draft in June, but Jackson’s strategy of publicly pushing Anthony out of town has backfired. So far, it’s made Anthony want to dig in to the final two years left on his contract and outlast Jackson’s regime.

Anyhow

This is the nicest backhanded compliment you've ever given me so I am going to hope Lowry actually plays in game #2
All i am saying is in the last two seasons Riley has been making a lot of short term moves that got them in purgatory. I AM NOT SAYING RILEY IS A BAD GM but he has been making bad GM moves for the sake of staying in the playoffs, maybe its the owner forcing him to do it..... idk, but I didn't see you denying my assessment of their moves and where they are right now.
http://nypost.com/2016/07/18/carmelo-anthony-is-gushing-over-these-knicks-thank-you-phil/ Arguably the worse things Phils done in his GM have been based around pleasing Melo, Also Phil will be retired before KP will take his qualifying offer..... 3 offseasons from now. Anyhow lets go over the reasoning behind last year's offseason.
I honestly think he knows he fucked up with Noah, you could see him stutter in how he spoke about him because he is stuck with them. Also as fucked up as the press conference was he would legit be a gigantic piece of shit to say anything bad about Rose who is going into FA after another leg injury If anything it looked like he tried to say the nicest things he could about him on purpose.
Anyhow

By livefromkyoto Go To PostZeus stop. Your stockholm syndrome is bumming me out. I really believe you know enough about basketball that you could have done a better job than Phil yourself.
1. You have the Knicks' unlimited money. Hire an experienced coach who doesn't suck. Let him run his own system.
2. Don't make trades for dumb, busted players. Tell me you would have looked at the whole league and said "wow, I gotta get in on Derrick Rose right now."
3. Don't sign dumb, busted free agents. Tell me you would have looked at everybody available and said "Joakim Noah. Now there's a man who's going to be productive for 4 years."
4. Don't start twitter beef with your own players. Who else even does this?
5. If you luck into a good young player, don't trash him in press conferences. Maybe even try something crazy like building around him.
Think about this. The only teams that finished worse than NY this year were the ones who were actively throwing games. Your guy thought he had a tough veteran playoff team.
The bar is so low here. You could do it. I could do it. Just stay out of the way and do the normal, expected thing at any given juncture.
This is the nicest backhanded compliment you've ever given me so I am going to hope Lowry actually plays in game #2
By reilo Go To PostAnd it's fucking hilarious to throw shots at a GM/Pres that has built a team that won three rings with five Finals appearances since 2002.
Who's Phil Jackson without Jerry Krause/Jerry West/Mitch Kupchak?

By The Frankman Go To PostReal talk, I hope KP leaves if they trade Carmelo. If Phil is going to shit on a guy he gave a NTC, what do you think he'll do to Porzingis? KP has said repeatedly he likes Carmelo and wants him around. Again, offseason of last year the Knicks were still in a ok position on the rebuild… what happens? He signs Rose/Jennings/Noah, and doesn't pull the trigger on Rose or Jennings on trades. The point guards don't fit the Triangle, and Rose/Jennigns on Hornacek's 2 PG system was concentrated shit on Defense which negated any worth they had on O. Noah … was overpaid, used PEDs, and got hurt. Never mind they couldn't agree on a single O and junked the plays that ran well with Carmelo and KP (high post Triangle)… For all the shit Phil is putting on Carmelo, he's destroyed the team so much and now alienated the top 2 players. Hopefully KP walking opens up the eyes of Knick fans that Phil needs to leave before Carmelo does.

Jackson, who said he made the somewhat risky splash to placate Anthony’s desire to take advantage of the final years of his prime, traded for Derrick Rose, the oft-injured former MVP, then signed center Joakim Noah, starting shooting guard Courtney Lee and backup point guard Brandon Jennings.
“The front office stepped up,’’ Anthony said. “It was a collective effort. They did their job and did what they had to do to make things happen. Now they’ve put us in the situation to give us an opportunity. All we have to do is take advantage of it. I want no credit. Phil and [general manager] Steve [Mills] did everything.
By reilo Go To PostPhil has talked more shit about Melo and KP than he did about Noah and Rose.
Rose, who, was on rape trial when the season started, hurt his knee AGAIN, disappeared before a game because he got into his feels, was completely terrible for them on the floor and committed a cardinal sin by saying he didn't like the triangle offense. Phil Jackson literally had no comment to any of that Rose drama. "I think we might bring him back", Phil Jackson says now.
And then, of course, everything that Frankman outlined above about Noah.
Meanwhile, Carmelo is the bad guy? Come on. I don't like the dude and I don't think he's an elite player anymore you build an offense around, but he could contribute to a winner in the right situation.
I honestly think he knows he fucked up with Noah, you could see him stutter in how he spoke about him because he is stuck with them. Porzingis passed on the exit interviews, as ESPN’s Ian Begley first reported, and league sources say Porzingis is planning a long trip back to Latvia that may not include a return to New York until closer to the start of training camp.lmao

I'm sorry, I'll make it a point to say nicer things. Honestly, it's the team, it's not you.
I don't really think its fair to criticize the Heat. That team was being built under the idea of Wade/Bosh, Bosh had his issues and maybe Wade would have stayed if Bosh was healthy. They're making the best out of a shitty situation
Also PJ is a dumbass. You gave the dude a NTC and now decide he's not worth keeping when NY wanted him out years ago? Way to make yourself look completely incompetent. Combine that with Noah/Rose and I don't even think this dude gets to run a local rec team after he leaves the Knicks

if he didn't sign Melo he could have blown up the team for real.. Maybe even gotten KAT, not that KP is bad or anything...
So... Here's the real counter argument that What phil is doing isn't necessarily wrong. But it's more of a Knicks Org thing.
There's too many guys under the one Agency at that team. And several of the execs are too (or were).
The triangle gets wins, but it doesn't promote stats.
And that place has been run by players, with players having way too much say in everything for way too long.
KP should be untouchable. Melo should have been taken aside and told "We're going in another direction. We want a mutually beneficial trade, we're not expecting dollar for dollar, but we're not taking 30c on the dollar either. While you work with us on getting a trade done, your playing time is guaranteed until the trade".
Yeah they shouldn't have given him the contract. And other things. That's all easy to say.

Kind of easy to do too.. I mean pay him but don't give him a NTC... if he left you could say we tried to sign him and keep it pushing..

You now regret it... and handled that really poorly.
That's kind of why he is deserving all the shit he is getting.. Because all GMs/PoBO make mistakes but it is how you rebound from them is what makes you a good one or Phil Jackson

Basically any other way would be better.
Don't mind the stance. But how he's gone about it has been sad.
That said, the Suns will gladly give up some MIami picks for KP. He would solve 99% of our problems.
Phil isn't wrong about Melo from a basketball standpoint (just wish he didnt have this revelation 3 years too late). No he's just an egotistical old coach who's incompetent as an executive, he might also be losing it a little. I seriously suggest watching that entire press conference its nuts, the Melo sound bytes are pretty bad but there was way more than that. There was the visible rage that came out in his unprovoked passive aggressive attacks on the press. The impromptu triangle lessons that he would break off into. And if there there was any doubt that Phil is trying to coach the team from the boardroom using his proxy Rambis (who cant be the head coach because all the players hate him) he basically lays it all out. If I was Hornacek I would get the fuck out of there.
So I'm not mad at how Phil is handling this whole Melo situation as much as I am concerned about his mental health.

KP isn't going anywhere. That can't happen to us. That's too much.
In all seriousness either Phil forces Melo out and Dolan doesn't allow him to move the only marketable guy remaining or Melo wins and Phil is tossed for somebody sane. That's not to say KP won't leave in three years but hopefully Phil will be gone by then and the relationship can be mended (the extra money should go a long way there).
edit: Phil out here ruining marriages now? We're breaking new ground, Dolans Knicks are despicable.
