By reilo Go To PostIf he was, then why did Ainge a) sign a guy that plays the same position as him and b) trade down from the #1 pick to draft a guy that plays the same position as him?I'm not arguing that Brown is good but why wouldnt you sign Hayward? Thats a weird point. Just because you think Brown is good doesnt mean you turn down an All Star.
Isn't Tatum a PF? Not a stretch to envision them playing together.
By LionPride Go To PostThere still exists people who believe that Jaylen Brown isn't good
Wow
Hayward is a 3/2, Jaylen is a 2/3, he's an athletic son of a bitch even for the NBA who just last season was giving good minutes for a playoff team in the east and was showing that he could play decent to good defense and would just do whatever you needed him to do to win your game. Plus, the Celtics didn't exactly have good depth at the 2/3 positions last season, having Jaylen potentially come off the bench or start alongside Hayward while Tatum sits on the bench and be their bench scoring punch makes sense. They have more depth in the backcourt/wing now.
By Doomsayer Go To PostImagine thinking Jaylen Brown is good.Hes not trash? For a rookie he gave them decent minutes which is all you can really ask of a rookie.

The problem with Jaylen brown is that he didn't play. Which means you can't say he's good, but you're not sure if he's ass either.
If he's not getting minutes this year you can start to lean very heavy towards ass.

17mpg ... for a rookie.
Bit premature. Particularly as Boston had enough 2/3 hybrids last year that Brown was never going to be playing with starters etc. Respectable 3p% behind that.
I tend to lean more towards bad... but he did finish the year strong. Which... yeah i mean, he was a rook :|

Tatum going to play the 3/4. Brown the 2/3. Hayward 2-4. Different positions. Jaylen has shown enough that he won't be a bust.

Since he's a rookie, isn't he a restricted FA when the time comes? Why wouldn't you put up a soft offer and see if you are forced to pull the trigger from counters?
An Embiid extension makes zero sense. He's already missed two entire years and most of the one he did actually get on the court for. He's already hurt going into this year and acknowledging he's going to miss time. Why jump the gun? If he plays well and is actually in uniform for 55-60 games, that will still be there for him in July. They played themselves.
By giririsss Go To Posthe said 3 players for 3 different positions…Is Hayward really going to the play 4 next to Horford? That would be a terrible pairing.
Kyrie/Brown/Tatum/Hayward/Horford sounds like a fucking terrible line up.
edit: Holy shit, Wade is starting? Rose/Wade backcourt is going to be comical.
That's a lot of money. And with the current CBA, at least 85% of it has to be guaranteed (if I'm understanding twitter correctly about likely/unlikely incentives).

The Embiid contract makes a little sense. Philly are trying to turn their clubhouse into a player friendly one. And if Embiid can't play, he'll just get a medical retirement.
I know that means philly would sitll have to pay the contract.
Collangelo was never shy spending other peoples money though.

It's obviously a vote of confidence for his future health. But damn that's a lot for a dude who has hardly played.

This doesn't look as bad as it sounds if it's actually how it works. Sixers will still have $40m in cap space next year. If Embiid dies then it has limited impact on their cap. They don't need to extend Simmons or Fultz for 3-4 years. If Embiid is healthy then it's a steal.
Of course staying health is a big "if", but as giri said it's a perfect risk/reward deal
