Cheick Diallo hit a jumper over Perry Jones III for the game winning shot in OT of the Pel's open scrimmage yesterday.
Jamelle McMillan was real happy about it cuz he was the one that drew up the play.

By giririsss Go To PostSounds terrible. There would have to be changes to the current rookie contract system like making them cuttable without cap hits.
So desperate teams that have been terrible have to keep gambling on throwing huge money at HS prospects. Who really aren't shit. Then wait 4 years while they "develop" and become ok?
Not to mention which, I can't say that subjecting bodies that haven't finished growing to a full NBA schedule will be great for injury rates. Like, I'm completely against the NCAA college stuff too. So don't take it as a passive endorsement of that.
I'm not by any means saying the current model is good. But going to a wild west situation sounds dumb.
I don't know if this the correct answer to the issue but I would rather have teams have to put their money up on getting better rather than just gambling seasons away that they will even get a top pick and then gamble that a hs prospect will be good in 3 to 4 years... if it became about major contracts I almost bet scouting would become better
By Kuma Go To PostWinslow still building his brick house?Made all his jumpers so far! got two nice blocks. All star year right on track
By blackace Go To PostThere would have to be changes to the current rookie contract system like making them cuttable without cap hits.I think there's only so much scouting you can do in / on HS students though. The level of competition would still make giving out contracts a HUGE gamble.

And whilst it sort of absolves tanking, it will create "cap tanking", the sort we saw with the last CBA where people would take on bad contracts, but instead of for draft picks, it would now be about timing it for a particular 15 y.o. you saw run the up the score on the middle of nowhere - whodafuks.

I mean they still would have to bid against other teams and put out a decent product. Fans wouldnt go for cap tanking I believe.
By blackace Go To PostI mean they still would have to bid against other teams and put out a decent product. Fans wouldnt go for cap tanking I believe. Why not. It's just the new "The Process".
They shouldn't go for "Draft Tanking".
By giririsss Go To PostWhy not. It's just the new "The Process".They do because of the hope created by the lottery. Next year we are for sure going to have a top 3 pick maybe.

In a cap system teams would have to put out cash to get a top player, they would be more accountable for how the team is put together...
By blackace Go To PostThey do because of the hope created by the lottery. Next year we are for sure going to have a top 3 pick maybe. But teams won't be sensible.

"Next year we'll get a top 3 pick" gets replaced with "Next year we'll have enough to buy the top 3 rookies".
By s y Go To PostOur defense is gonna be really good this year.I mean, you're struggling against ATL.

By giririsss Go To PostI mean, you're struggling against ATL.no such thing as struggle in preseason.
…
By giririsss Go To PostBut teams won't be sensible.sure but for how many years will fans buy that pitch?

By blackace Go To Postsure but for how many years will fans buy that pitch? For as long as there are talented players to draft.
By Kibner Go To PostFor as long as there are talented players to draft.Doubt that. If they mismanage the cap and don't bid or bid enough and don't go after FA on the market there is no process... no golden ticket to be handed to them for sucking.
By blackace Go To PostDoubt that. If they mismanage the cap and don't bid or bid enough and don't go after FA on the market there is no process… no golden ticket to be handed to them for sucking. Are you arguing for or against making rookies free agents now? lol
If I was to change anything, personally, it would be the removal of the dollar limit on max contracts. Keep the year limits but remove dollar limits. Should result in talent spread around the league a little better than now. Of course, it may also mean there will be more struggle teams with one great player surrounded by lots of bad players but that just puts a bigger focus on development and scouting "cheap" players.
By Kibner Go To PostAre you arguing for or against making rookies free agents now? lolBidding on rookies like FAs isn't a horrible idea to me... you still have a cap so you have to manage that. Tanking is that bad that teams can't be trusted to put effort into shit

That would destroy teams cap though for guys who might not contribute significantly for 2 -3 years. Like even if you "draft/bid" on the right rookie you might still be screwed as a GM because the time it takes for the player to develop you might still suck.

By unknown Go To PostSome Frank and KP footage of today's scrimmage. Its preseason so it means nothing, but I take back my statements about Frank being a SG he definitely looks like a PG in the Jrue Holiday/George Hill model.

By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostDidn't catch the game but I like Winslow, is he starting for ya'll this year?Hopefully, if he's not he'll end up being a starter anyway. Looked great tonight.
By blackace Go To Postyou'd have to adjust the cap and make rookie contracts cuttable it is more than doableI don't want NBA players to ever give up guaranteed contracts. Even if you have to pay them but not worry about their cap hit, the richer teams can better absorb bad luck.
The NFL front offices and coaches are finally doing what they should have done with non-guarnteed contracts and it hurts the product. You just get a bunch of cheap guys and the instant they underperform or get injured, they are gone. Not many second chances or time given to long-term development anymore. And the rosters are full of inexperience so now there are more mistakes by players.
By Kabro Go To PostClippers are now watchable without Michael Smith.Yeah, I'm ok with him being gone. I'm glad Lawler is still here, though.

So, the Pelican's PR released an injury report today:
I'm only posting this because of what they have down for Asik: http://www.spondylitis.org/Ankylosing-Spondylitis
I'm only posting this because of what they have down for Asik: http://www.spondylitis.org/Ankylosing-Spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis (pronounced ank-kih-low-sing spon-dill-eye-tiss), or AS, is a form of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, although other joints can become involved. It causes inflammation of the spinal joints (vertebrae) that can lead to severe, chronic pain and discomfort.
In more advanced cases this inflammation can lead to ankylosis – new bone formation in the spine – causing sections of the spine to fuse in a fixed, immobile position.
[…]
Currently, there is no known cure for AS, but there are treatments and medications available to reduce symptoms and manage pain.
[…]
It is important to know that ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic, or lifelong, disease and that the severity of AS has nothing to do with age or gender.
[…]
By s y Go To PostWouldnt be surprised if Asik retiredIf he does, it probably won't happen until All Star break so he can do a medical retirement and still get his money.
Sucks to hear about Asik. Kibner, is this related to that overseas game or something separate? Guy's had some bad luck since he left Houston.
By chandlerparsons Go To PostSucks to hear about Asik. Kibner, is this related to that overseas game or something separate? Guy's had some bad luck since he left Houston.I think the Pelicans had a game in Mexico and he caught a bug.
Edit: he vaca'd in Mexico during the ASB and thats where his bad luck started.
The court is nice, and the new yellow-gold alternate jerseys pop with a welcome boldness. And trust me: The upcoming fourth jersey and accompanying court design are awesome, and like nothing you've seen before in the NBA.Zach Lowe got me shook about these 4th jerseys
