By Fenderputty Go To PostSmall Market teams droppin' serious coinage. I would love to see the cap removed just to see how crazy shit gets. Single contract might be enough to ensure team never get more than two stars at this point
Or that they all just end up in NY & LA.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostOr that they all just end up in NY & LA.
With how much Curry or Lebron or any one of these guys are asking? Fuck man ... Russ probably could get twice that. You think even LA and NY are looking to drop 150+ a year on two players? Maybe ... just seems like crazy money.

NBA Sends memo reminds teams players have to stand for the anthem. Suggest really terrible alternative ways to send message.
Part of me thinks they did that just so that the players who do kneel get more coverage.

Wade looks so weird in a Cavs jersey. Still boggles my mind thinking of him being on the Cavs of all teams.

when they say they'll 'deal with' players who don't stand, does this hint at them handing out fines?

He's going to make players bend the knee to the almighty dollar.
No better way to expose how fraudulent all of this is than to demonstrate that stacks > human rights.
nobody is making these players do shit lol. especially not in the nba
lbj called the president a bum and silver ain't said a fucking word.
and the nba's players and players association has had their way since the end of the sterling years. if they want to use a post game preference, warm up, or commercial break to speak on a social issue - they've pretty much got it on demand.
oh but thats not the point anymore. caron butler of all people get whole blocks of prime network time but none of that matters because of this will they won't they knee hot take lol

It's still a clumsy-ass move that they even sent the memo. As if those dudes were going to mess up their knees kneeling on hardwood 82 nights in a row in the first place.
They're going to do something no matter what though, and trying to stop it is a waste of time. I don't even think the NBA audience is as backwards as other sports, so who cares anyway? All kinds of BLM stuff has been done and nobody freaked out.

"will they won't they knee" isn't a hot take. #45 makes hot takes or the regular. Taking a knee during the anthem is a symbolic gesture of solidarity for the cause. Last year it was about extralegal police violence. This year, it's turning into an "FU" to America (because of aforementioned reasons including #45). I approve of either or both.
Anything less than a unified gesture during a hyper-jingoistic tradition such as the anthem or signings of "God Bless America" during baseball games will not have the same impact as individual micro-aggressions that can be dismissed as few rogue agents.
Silver didn't do anything to LeBron's tweet because what could he do? Same thing with ESPN and Jamele. What lie was told? Show me someone who doesn't think #45 is a bum who also isn't a racist SOB.
Turning their backs from the flag during the anthem would serve as an adequate "alternative form of protest" if they're worried about knees on hardwood floors. But I'm expecting that players will acquiesce. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't think the NBA can afford to have players taking a knee. White America just got over the malice at the palace a few years ago. They're full of shit when they say they'll boycott the NFL but they'll actually do it with the NBA. Pretty sure players are gonna do it anyway though so we'll see what happens.

"I'd get rid of it, just get rid of the draft altogether," Van Gundy told reporters after practice Friday. "We'd just deal with the salary cap. Make all [rookies] free agents coming in, and if I want to go give a guy $50 million a year, good, but I got to do it under the cap."
That's an even worse idea than the existence of the draft lottery so that teams can tank for the highest probability to get #1.
Some NBA team will sign he equivalent of a JaMarcus Russell and it will trigger a lockout.
It will also ensure that all the "big city" teams will be always be competitive since the players can pick where they want to play from the jump, even at a loss. Watching the Lakers and Knicks play struggle ball is far more entertaining.

6,500 people at the Pelican's open practice today. That's quite a bit more than usual. This season has more expectations than any in recent memory. Even more than the season after making the playoffs.
a team already drafted anthony bennett #1 overall
nfl was losing its shit over stuff becuase of rookie contracts more than busts in particular
so what's the purpose for most of these guys? its dumb. as for 'what lie was told' - that's completely dismissive of the factors that ownership, commission, and all the sponsors attached to point of being straight up disingenuous.
