By Method Go To PostKlay's shoe deal extended to 2027. Lol
Truly the GOAT
You don't need to be an elite athlete to be top 10 player in this league. Klay knows exactly how to market himself as someone that is relatable.
He deserves all this money, making the 6th most out of all shoe deals, and gonna be retiring as a Dub.

By shun Go To PostYou don't need to be an elite athlete to be top 10 player in this league.I don't think Harden is an elite athlete but he's still very good. I guess Curry isn't elite either though. Those are the 2 that could fit that category.

By DY_nasty Go To Postis he even a top 5 player on his own team?
Jordan Bell hasn't signed a contract yet, so Klay's still top 5.
Shun look what you've done again for like the 10th time this season. Just say top 20 player and people will ignore it

I'll keep saying this even if Top 20 is true as well.
It is true that Klay is at worst, Top 15. When you take into consideration his skillset and metrics, against other players offensively and defensively. He is absolutely Top 10.
By Kabro Go To PostPff theres 20 players better than klay.
You keep sipping that while you Lakerstans have wet dreams about signing Klay in the offseason with Paul George.
By shun Go To PostI'll keep saying this even if Top 20 is true as well.He really isn't... and I am a huge Klay defender.

But him and Avery not making either all defensive teams was horrible

Klay is one of the best 2 way players in the league.
Yeah but notice how "best 2 way player" is always thrown around like a backhanded compliment?
I remember when Kawhi was always caveated with the "best two way player" tag until this year when he became full stop a top 5 player.

By diehard Go To Postbest 2 way players is basically the "somebody think of the defense, please" of ratingsYeah because d is only half of the game of hoops
I'm the biggest and longest serving Klay stan here and even I don't think he's top 10. Somewhere between 18-25 sure. Shun stay in your lane
If only there was some recent evidence of historically great defense winning championships or something

For a wing player it's less than half. That's just a fact.
I'll take god level production on offense and James Harden defense over Tony Allen. Any day of the week.
Bigs are a different story since they need to help and roam and protect the rim, but for a wing your defense can only be so valuable.

obviously this changes going into next year.
Other than Giannis, who doesn't even count as backcourt, I will take Klay over Jimmy Butler, CJ McCollum, Gordon Hayward, Paul George, and Damian Lillard of those back court options right now. In the future, this changes. But he's a talent.
Lillard McCollum is like the second best backcourt in this league behind Steph and Klay.
Harden CP3 is probably #3.

Not even top 10 in random Chinese parking lots.

Tony Allen is as bad on O as Harden is on D but if Tony Allen was Bradley Beal good on O he'd be one of the greatest of the time. When a one way player on O runs out of gas they become completely useless like Harden in game 7. Playing good D is important for any position. That is a fact

And he carried that team to 55 wins in an 82 game season...
Look, you might hold on to this notion that you can switch your sliders between offense and defense and come out with an interchangeable player but the fact of the matter is, average perimeter defense is just not that valuable compared to the production that's expected out of a perimeter player on offense.
You can't really stay on the floor as a wing/guard if you can't shoot/drive and draw fouls. But you can cover for a bad defender like what Cleveland does for Kyrie or what Boston for Isaiah.
If you made up a starting five of average defenders at every position, the quickest way to improve that defense is to replace your average center witha Rudy Gobert or Draymond Green, and not swapping your small forward for Kawhi Leonard or Jimmy Butler.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostAnd he carried that team to 55 wins in an 82 game season…PG aren't wings and Kawhi makes a team of average defensive players great. Draymond isn't protecting the paint like a traditional center he covers like a great wing.

The point is being fairly productive at 1 and super productive at the other makes you a great basketball player... even Harden step up his D last season compared to his time under McHale
Right but being super productive on one end and not at all on the other is much more preferable when the production comes from offense instead of defense. And that's especially true when it comes to perimeter players
Case in point: given the choice, would u rather have Tim Hardaway Jr, perfectly average player on both offense and defense, or CJ McCollum, horrendous defender but elite offensive player?
And if your argument is that an average offensive player with elite defense is equally valuable as elite offense with average defense then the comparison would be something like Khris Middleton vs. Gordon Hayward. Again, not difficult to choose between the two, even tho I love Middleton

The things with the CJs and IT2s of the NBA is they create a hole that you have to plug with a Evan Turner or Marcus Smart.
I wouid most likely take a 2 way player of Klay's ability over CJ or Beal despite him being only able to score jumpers...
Of course I'd take Harden over a A. Bradley because his offense is that much better than the whole of Bradley's game but there aren't too many players you can say that about
Finally watching Donovan Mitchell videos and he really just seems like he needs to calm down to become a really good player.
His jumper actually looks pretty great when he's not hoisting up garbage.
All of his impossible layup attempts that he misses remind me too much of Burks, but hopefully he will be willing to take fewer of those.
He looks like he could be a really good 3D player who can drive to the basket if he gets a step...

By DY_nasty Go To Postaverage defenders aint worth shitPretty much
Robert Covington is a completely mediocre offensive player and one of the best defenders in the league. Danny Green is in a similar spot since he can't shoot nearly as well anymore...
But Klay is a very good offensive player and a great defender which is a really nice player to have and isn't really comparable to those guys.
