Chris Paul has been traded to the Rockets in exchange for Patrick Beverley, Sam Dekker, Lou Williams and a 2018 first-round pick.... at least Clips' bench is better now?
Paul reportedly informed that Clippers that he was going to sign with the Rockets as a free agent, which forced the Clippers to execute this deal rather than lose him for nothing. CP3's value should hold steady playing in Houston's uptempo offense, while James Harden should spend a bit more time playing off the ball, meaning Harden's assist numbers could take a slight hit although his scoring could increase.
It's an interesting week for Beverley, who was just named to First-Team All Defense on Monday. Beverley techincally started at shooting guard last year and wasn't much of an offensive factor, turning in a 14.1 usage rate in his 67 games. He'll almost certainly see more scoring opportunities with the Clippers and possibly even more than his 30.7 minutes per game. If the Clippers don't add much next month, he could be a solid contributor for the Clippers.
The Clippers sending away CP3 could make it tougher for them to retain Blake Griffin during free agency, and if Griffin does indeed decide to walk as a free agent, that could queue the beginning of the rebuild for the Clippers. Los Angeles does currently have a pretty big hole at the small forward spot, so Dekker might be able to see some quality minutes next season depending on how free agency shakes out. Still, he's just a blip on the NBA radar at the moment.
Williams has been one of the best sixth men over the past decade and he'll likely be in a similar role next year. It's still unclear what the Clippers are planning to do with their roster, but there's a very good chance they lose a lot of their big-name players and may opt to rebuild. Lou was outstanding in his time with the Lakers last year, averaging 18.6 points, 2.3 boards, 3.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.1 treys. If the Clips don't add much next month, Williams can be viewed as a core player.

People questioned Harden's ability to play the point and it worked. I'm willing to give it a shot. I think the biggest sticking point to me is personality. Mr. Serious and Mr. Clubbin' seem like oil and water. A tweet joked about this yesterday.
clippers destroyed the rockets in that trade--they realistically shouldn't have gotten like...any value

I mean they should be fine, CP3 can still defend and shoot even if he is in the corner.
Don't forget that Morey did say they were going to take bigger risks this off-season to compete for a title.
Also, no one escapes the SW Division untested. NO ONE! Most competitive and talented division in sports.

i knew he would leave but i'm still sad. hoped he would at least go to the Spurs and not the damn Rockets. Well i warmed up to them a little since Dwight left.
i hope BG stays but if Doc is still around it wouldn't really matter. Blake should go east.

Flop City is done. Let us all be happy about that. But man, CP3 and Harden are going to be pulling off antics that might be on a whole other level.
This buys you maybe a game or two in a series with the Warriors. Nobody is going to stop them.

Some Pelican fans want to be able to resign Jrue and then trade a future first for Pat Bev. I'm not sure I would hate that if it could be pulled off.
By Smokey Go To PostAdamSeriously the only starting guard who's been able to complement Harden, on a decent contract, and we give him away to get a dude in his 30s who's never been to the conference finals?
Take care of Bev :_;
I was off on Morey going for D'Antoni, but this makes no sense to me. After not working out with Lin and Lawson and relegating ball dominant guards to the bench, Harden actively pursues one of the purest PGs in the league? After sub-optimally working with a ball-using forward in Griffin, Paul thinks it'll be better with a ball dominant guard?
CP3 should have gone to the Spurs, and we should have been looking at bolstering our forwards. This feels like Lawson all over again, except instead of getting rid of Papanikolaou and Nick Johnson, it's for pieces I wanted to keep.
The Pacers wouldn't want Capela when they have a better center in Turner. I don't see what the Rockets could offer to the Pacers that would make them bite.

By Switchpro Go To Posthow stingy can they be if it's pretty clear that he will walk anyway. They still don't have to trade PG right this second, especially when the deals that have been reported are bad. The only timeline they're really on for that is the start of the season, since they probably don't want his trade demand hanging over the team and fan's booing him at home.
Flip held on to Kevin Love until that Cavs deal came together in August.
