By masud Go To PostOf course it's a bad trade for the Clips (shhhh) but how is getting anything for Anthony bad at this point?I'd rather get nothing than 2 years of Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford and Wes Johnson for almost $53 million. And that's assuming Rivers declines his player option after next year. If he picks it up that's another $13 million.
This from Albert Burneko at Deadspin is so good:
http://deadspin.com/let-this-be-the-end-of-the-clippers-1794808294
ESPN’s Kevin Arnovitz, who has covered the team up close for years, gives typically thoughtful and informed consideration to the organization’s quandary, in the best* of the handful of kinda-sorta eulogies the Clippers received over the past week.
*The worst of these is Bill Simmons’s, of course, coming to us from the same bizarre alternate dimension as all his other posts, a nightmare place where the meaning and purpose of Chris Paul’s career is to convince Bill Simmons that he meets Bill Simmons’s criteria for inclusion in Bill Simmons’s Candace Cameron Memorial Pantheon of Great Point Guards™ or whatever the fuck.
http://deadspin.com/let-this-be-the-end-of-the-clippers-1794808294
I posted Arnovitz's piece and it was quite good. Some choice quotes in there. Simmons' article is basically Simmons Logic™ self-aggrandizing.

We're not making (or we shouldn't be making) any big free agency moves for a few years anyway so there's no need to horde cap space especially if we can get picks for it.
Redick receded into the cavernous folds of obscurity over the final 96 minutes of the series, taking only nine shots total in that stretch, with nearly 92 minutes of game time separating his lone made field goal in Game 6 from his lone made field goal in Game 7.wow

By KingGondo Go To PostYou should make at least a token attempt to put a competitive team around Porzingis.Yes we should, and the only way we can really do that is to try and get a bunch of good young players in the draft over the next few seasons. We have very little talent on the roster and Phil and co have already failed to put together a good team from scratch via free agency twice, and that was with Melo. I love KP but he's not that number 1 guy that you can surround with decent role players and start competing in the playoffs, atleast not yet. Tank on.

Exactly. got to tank now before they end up like the pelicans trying to just put talent around KP any way possible even if it doesn't fit. Honestly the best chance they have to put a good team around KP is to get young assets/picks back for Melo and tank at least 1 more season. Philly is way to far in their rebuild to start getting squeamish about tanking now.

Based on the rumors Phil said the same thing.
Right now the dream option would be a trading Melo to the Clippers for a 3 team Sign and Trade for Blake. Where the Knicks got cap space & good picks in return and the third team got Blake (*cough Celtics)
But I am legit interested in what the clippers do this offseason. Not just because they could provide a depressing (rivers and Crawford) to good (picks for Blake in a 3 team deal) trade for Melo. Its just they are so fucked, but their is no clear blueprint on how to unfuck themselves. Who do they let go, who do they keep, and they really have no young players or enough picks to make major changes wise.
By KingGondo Go To PostCan't imagine the Celtics want Griffin since they'll be paying so much to Horford.
I am holding out hope that they get just far enough in the playoffs that Ainge says fuck it, especially if all the knicks got back in return was pick(s).
PG heading to LA
Butler looks to stay
Hayward is probably going to stay
Blake might be their best option to get over the hump (and he rebounds)
The path for the Clippers is clear Zeus, trade Crawford ect and some unprotected future picks for Melo, try to convince Blake to stay, and make one last run with CP3, DJ, Blake, Melo and Reddick (can you say formidable Golden State?) future be damned!

Blake RPG last three seasons: 7.6RPG, 8.4RPG, 8.1RPG
By reilo Go To Post??League rankings for those seasons with an extra added due to being lost in to injury:
Blake RPG last three seasons: 7.6RPG, 8.4RPG, 8.1RPG
2014: 16th
2015: 32nd
2016: DNQ (only played 35 games)
2017: 22nd
That's an above average rebounder, imo.
Of everyone who ranked above him this past season:
3 PFs
3 SFs
1 PGs
The rest were centers.

Its not though, they would hit the Hard Cap unless the knicks ate all their garbage and like I said earlier Phil told them no once before. Doc was damn near begging them to ask to trade for his son. If they maxed everyone out they would literally be unable to add players due to the hard cap.
I see there options as follows
1) Keep their big 3, let reddick go, and try to trade their roleplayers for those unprotected picks to get room to find people who aren't on the verge of being done.
2) They could trade Griffin in a S$T (He gets that legit Max) to get Melo back, let reddick go, trade Jamal or Austin (there are scenarios where the knicks could send them Lee in return for one) and then have money to actually build around their big 3.
3) They could just let Blake go and trade trash for Melo, and shuffle their roleplayers as stated above. Though like I said it seems like Phil doesn't want to do them any favors when he is making statement about getting "a significant player in return"
I'm obviously biased towards number #2, but I don't see any of these pushing the needle towards them being elite in the west, unless they find a diamond or two roleplayers. 2 & 3 are actually a little safer than maxing Blake because Melo is on a 2 year deal. If it doesn't work they would have Max money to readjust a lot sooner than them re-uping the core they have now.
What about TRB% and Per 36? He plays a lot of minutes. Durant, Lebron and Giannis are all better rebounders than him. His rebounding has nose-dived since his early years in the league which is highly surprising.

I wouldn't use either TRB% or per 36 to judge rebounding prowess, anyway.

If the Clippers are willing to give up those picks we should take any contracts they want. But leave it to Phil to demand a kings ransom for a player he's been publicly trashing for months.

Man, and Redick is a free agent, too. I don't know who's going to pay a guy like tha...
...wait, of course I do.
The Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks are expected to return to their trade talks centered on Carmelo Anthony.
The two sides discussed trade scenarios involving Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers for Anthony, but Crawford could instead be replaced by J.J. Redick in a sign-and-trade. Redick is 32 compared to the 37-year-old Crawford and is also a better fit for the triangle.
Redick would have to agree upon the deal as he's a free agent.
"It was a tough series for him," Doc Rivers said of Redick.
If the two sides expand the deal, Courtney Lee could also be included heading with Anthony to the Clippers.

I mean regardless if the rumors are true or not. Phil said he wanted a significant contributor back for Melo. Along with all the other shit he put out there that is on the record as well. He also hinted that he felt teams would be more down for that level of trade once they got knocked out the first round.....

Stop posting Berman links as if they are relevant, he literally got called out for lying about another Melo trade proposal a few days ago......
It doesn't sound like Porzingis dreams of playing in on a tanking team. Not in year 3 or 4. I'm not sure the BEST plan for the knicks is to kick rocks for a few high lotto picks.
Not the level of Philli anyway.
At least they own all their future Firsts for the first time in 15? years.
With 44M between Carmelo and Noah next year, and 46M the year after, they're not going to exactly be cap rich soon. And like it or not, they're in a conference where they're probably going to stumble to 30 wins if Melo and KP are healthy-ish.
They really need to add players with contracts that will expire the same year, while being mildly productive. Guys like Brandon Knight. That's just a name that comes to mind, I don't know his contract details. But he's mildly productive at his position. Knight / Lee back court isn't going to win many match ups. But it should give your offense SOME structure.
But guys that are ... in a bad log jam and slightly disgruntled and will be happy to get playing time.
If you can't move Melo, he Needs to be forced in to the 4. Just flat out told that's where he's playing, with KP @ 5. Then find a 3&D wing.
And while doing that, draft as well as you can ~ 8 - 12.
Oh, and try to not alienate your fans while doing so.

even more evidence that Reddick isn't likely gonna be the basis for the trade

I don't see you getting unprotected firsts from a team that is a curly hair away from blowing it up... maybe but I know I wouldn't do it
Even Ray Allen was traded for Jeff Green (5th pick) straight up and Ray was a better and younger player at the time than Melo and the situation was quite different. Melo isn't fetching that far into the future.

So does Woj fuck them over and release the draft picks earlier than the telecast now that ESPN is paying him?
Jokes aside he isn't very telegenic they are going to have to match him with a decent crew.

Also I really think he wants blake..... and they couldn't get him before cause Rose being on the roster affected some obscure CBA rule. Look at what he was reported to ask from the cavs and celtics and where the trading began with the Clippers. Like fucking night and day in quality
