By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostThere comes a point where you got to admit to yourself….. That these bastards aren't going to give you a chance in a particular role. So then you have to make some compromises on the plan and see what happens. The recent NBA hires seem to either be College coaches that have done very well (Snyder, Stevens) Or long (very long) time assistants from successful franchises (Budenholzer).
Basically even though Ewing has paid dues he wasn't going to ever get a NBA HC job. Regardless if he could show that he deserved a chance and might be better than some other scrubs who have been given chances. For example look at Bill Laimbeer, dude has won multiple rings in the WNBA, was party of a dynasty in Detroit, and legit can coach and he can't even get a a NBA HC interview.
So with that said I am happy for Ewing I hope the turns that team around, and has success at the college level and who knows maybe if he does well enough there he'll get a NBA HC job
Ewings history as an assistant has been on good teams, but short bursts here and there. 3 years with houston, then retired for 3. then 2 with orland. Then 3 with CHA.
And he's interviewed for A LOT of head coaching jobs.
I think going and being the HC in college is exactly the step he needed.

ewing can't talk
and a lot of these other guys know how to bring in attractive assistant coaches/staffs as well, i don't think ewing has that down yet either
i'm not sure how he deals with the recruiting, but i think he's smart enough to not make it harder than it needs to be

looooooooooooooooool
Rodeo, I'm not sure running a 1-4 ISO play for Wiggins on the weak side like it's 1996 while KAT stands on the opposite corner beyond the three point line is a winning strategy.
I'm so sorry
I'm so sorry
By reilo Go To PostWhat does Kris Dunn do?Sometimes, he can play a little bit of defense and get steals when he's not fouling.
They're trying to make him Tony Allen at this point. They've given up on him being a point guard since he can't run an offense and can't shoot, so that's cool. Good use of our fifth pick.
By rodeoclown Go To PostGood use of our fifth pick.
Still think Jamal Murray was the pick for them, you could play him with Rubio as well
Don't think I don't look up Murray's stats semi regularly and see how decent he's been the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, I have to watch Kris Dunn being unable to do basic shit nightly like run a pick and roll. He can't get to the basket and when he does he can't finish because he avoid contact because he doesn't want to shoot free throws he'll miss. Also, he's 23, so this is fine.

Jaylen Brown was supposed to be the project pick, no? He's shown flashes of being a decent player as well.
By reilo Go To PostJaylen Brown was supposed to be the project pick, no? He's shown flashes of being a decent player as well.Brown and Murray are also only 20 and have a way better shot of reaching whatever their potential is.
For some reason, people had Dunn pegged as an impact guy right away, even though he was a senior that wasn't lighting up a really bad Big East. Everything he still sucks at, he sucked at during his four year college career. The shooting, the turnovers, the bad decision making, there's four years of tape on those things.

dunn has convinced me that thibs is a piece of shit coach though. thibs only choice to keep from being in the hotseat during year 2 was to let rubio do his headless chicken pg routine since thibs doesn't know what real offense looks like nor does he know how to reign guys in

This is such a weird hill to die on.

can't tell me thibs knows offense though after all the ways (the same way) yal been taking Ls this year though
When have I given Thibs a pass for this year? Simplifying the offense is among the few things he was actually able to course correct this year, though. Like, the Wolves have the 10th ranked offense in the league. They have a lot of problems, but I don't think that letting Ricky Rubio run a lot of pick and rolls is on my list of concerns.
They really don't ask Dunn to do very much and he just doesn't do that little bit with any effectiveness right now. Even a pick and roll is a problem for him because he doesn't make good, quick decisions and overdribbles.
I'm sorry he isn't very good because it hurts your pride or something.

It's just as strange that you seem to be condemning the kid after admitting to being wrong on LaVine, Shabazz & Jones after being similarly harsh on them during their rookie seasons. It's even stranger considering that you're the critic of Thibs here.
my pride is fine lol
on a roster full of some of the best young talent in the league at every position, i'm kinda shocked you still got time to cape for rubio
all thibs has managed to do this year is try things his way, fail spectacularly, then go back to the minnesota tradition of letting nice guy rondo be a crutch on the way to mediocrity to protect his job.

They tried things.
Wiggins isn't a facilitator.
Dunn cant play PG.
Going back to the one guy who can run a competent offense doesn't seem like a bad call.

dieng has finally learned that cashing checks is what's really important
kat is interviewing himself looking for answers
dunn thought he knew what basketball was too until he saw wiggins shoot another fadeaway
going back to the one meh constant you got after a whole organizational shift is a bad look considering all the promise they had imo but hey as long as rubio is playing good now that the season is over!
And all of that is true DY as they're about to beat the Blazers by playing one-dimensional ISO ball from the Larry Brown Pistons era. FML.

Honestly though, is Super Calderon really such a bad guy to hand the keys to? His numbers are good enough now that they seem to have finally just accepted their destiny with him.

Wiggins has looked infinitely better when he hasn't been forced to be something he isn't. The tried and failed, recognised it failed, and moved on. He hasn't really developed since his Rookie year. But trying and failing is part of growth.
KAT is averaging 25, 12 & 3 on good percentages. He'll be fine.
The rest is more on the GM than the coach. They just happen to be same person.
None of it has anything to do with Rubio. He's a good point guard that runs a good offense but sucks at scoring. Is a really good defender, isn't a divisive douchebag, and makes everyone around him better on offense.
But you know, we should all cape for rubio to go back to Spain because .... Dunn was a bust?
Wolves will end up 35-47 or there abouts. They aren't far away from putting it altogether. Is Rubio a part of that? who knows. Is Dunn? based off this year, No. He isn't.
Thibs being the GM as also a problem. I don't think this dual role thing is working out in the NBA. Even Pop has Buford.
