I swear, the Thunder become a worse team every season since the 2012 Finals run and Gondo keeps arguing that they are better and better than ever before.
Lol I haven't said that.
We've had a couple teams better than the 2012 team (including the 2013 team) but obviously we're worse this season.

By giririsss Go To PostRuss as MVP feels so fraudulent.I'd honestly rather have Kawhi win it than Westbrook. At least it would have been consistent with what MVP has meant the past few seasons (most wins > best stats).
Scust.
Wins when playing - Name (PTS / REB / AST / STL/ BLK) TS%
51 wins - Durant (25.1 / 8.3 / 4.9 / 1.1 / 1.6) 65.1%

By blackace Go To PostI still love that Harden has almost 500 turnovers..2015-16 AST:TO ratio:
Harden: 1.64
2016-17 AST:TO ratio:
Harden: 1.95
Westbrook: 1.92
Think Westbrook's 258 more field goal misses are worse than the 26 turnover disparity. Maybe if Harden had the advantage of playing with a center like Adams to box out for him, or had all those misses, he'd be able to hit the arbitrary 10 rebound mark, too.
The recency bias is almost as if people want to push a certain narrative and story because it makes for more $$$.
Harden and Kawhi are both the more deserving in terms of what they do to get their team to win and how they improve the rest of their team to play better along with their great stats.
I don't agree with Draymond being Defensive Player of the Year either. Gobert really should have won it, or Kawhi Leonard 3-peat it. Draymond is a great defensive player and is one of the most versatile but Gobert is #1 in nearly every single defensive metric in basketball statistics this year.
As much as chandlerparsons likes to single me out of all the Dubstans here, throughout the season I've been saying Harden or Kawhi as MVP and praising Harden the entire year. Despite all the shit before the season started and everything, he put in work and that shows it.

I personally don't understand defending every average or below average player Presti has acquired since the Harden trade for several years and then arguing against them as a means to promote Russ to MVP today.
I don't understand how saying "Russ as MVP is fraudulent" is the same as hating the individual achievement he has made this year.
I'm pretty sure giri knows and appreciates the historical numbers YNB is putting. Most people if not everyone here thinks that what YNB did this year is amazing. We all praise the achievement, but can criticize the means he's taken to achieve it when discussing whether or not that historic year translates to MVP.
Does that averaging a triple double translate into being a league MVP when other players have proven that they can not only carry a team, but make all those around them better and win more?
Some say yes, some say no. Those who say no don't automatically hate Westbrook's achievements, and thus hate basketball like you seem to insinuate.
Bill Simmons is enjoying every fucking minute of this, but he doesn't think Westbrook is MVP and he thinks it's wrong to vote him as one. Zach Lowe and several other reporters feel the same way.
We're not riding the Royce Young and Brian Windhorst school of Basketball Standing.

Things I didn't know: the Raptors' play by play guy Matt Devlin (who used to do the Grizzlies & Bobcats as well) is rich AF, more than most of the players.
His family is loaded:

I can't imagine the dedication it takes to come from that to sitting there having Leo Rautins tell you how he thinks basketball works. If I had money like that I would just be living on an island somewhere flying in my MLG pro Destiny coach on weekdays.

Robert Devlin, American General's chairman and chief executive officer, earned $45 million in 1999.
Devlin fell to the 10th place on the recent list (he earned $27,272,697 in 2000). But according to a source familiar with American General's compensation packages, Devlin will receive about $200 million in stock options and other incentives in 2001 as a result of American International Group's purchase of American General.

By blackace Go To PostBesides let's be honest if anyone knows about fraudulent MVPs it's Suns fansβ¦Ok Simmons.
I guess you can give it to Russ that by definition... he is the most valuable player to the team, but I always believed there was an unwritten rule (in any sport for that matter) that your team has to have some degree of success to be crowned best player of that respective league. Football (soccer) is the same, really the best players are usually awarded to the team that has one the league or at least challenged for the title in some way.
I dont see how russ can be crowned mvp when you look at the precedent

He certainly had the most memorable clutch season in a long time, especially over the last month. Besides, I don't think Rox fans want to play the "more wins" card when Kawhi is one of the contenders.

This is where Oscar Robertson's team finished and where he finished in MVP voting when he averaged a triple-double.
Is what Westbrook did this regular season historic? Yes. Is it impressive? Of course. Is someone who led their team to the 10th best record in the NBA in 2016-17 worthy of MVP? Debatable. Giri and shun and everybody else in this thread have a right to disagree with the arbitrary criteria (triple-doubles, clutchness, on the flyness, fan loudness) you've set for what makes an MVP.

If James played with a center who weighed 20 pounds more and wasn't paired with Ryan Anderson, maybe he could've gotten there. Alas, Harden's supporting cast isn't as talented as Westbrook's when it comes to that.

Nah, with the way your team has been playing this year, once rotations shrink you have a talent edge on almost everybody in the conference. I fully expect the Wizards to be in the Eastern Finals.
Phaze I know you posted something a while ago about the biggest turnaround after starting 2-8, did the Wizards end up finishing the most games over .500 after that start? 16 games over is pretty insane.
