By Laboured Go To PostOutside Liverpool's price range imo.Yeah just edited by post to mention that. We can afford it I think, but not in a summer where we already have numerous positions to find new players in. Even if we're in the EL (christ, even if we're not in Europe at all), we'll still need to make a tonne of signings to get some half-decent squad depth.
Blowing at least half of our budget on 1 player who could easily underperform, in a position where you can get a very good player for a decent price, in those circumstances doesn't sound too clever to me. And its not like we'll be selling anyone at the back for a significant price to create those funds.

Yeah, sorry, I meant that Liverpool could of course afford him but that's not going to be where they want to concentrate a majority of their budget. Should be looking to find their own Bailly at around £25 mill rather than a £50 mill Prem. defender.
Having said that I'd fucking love to have a centreback with some semblance of recovery pace. Van Dijk is physically exceptional. Fast enough to play very high up, and also very strong and dominant on crosses. Obviously not the greatest yardstick these days, but he made Sturridge look like a 14 year old in the League Cup ties. Brushed him away whenever the ball was in the air, and didn't give him an inch of space on the ground.
Lovren was a bloody good centreback before he joined us though...

Most Liverpool journos expect a record breaking summer in terms of transfer spend. Putting 50m on Van Dijk won't be the issue, it's matching the 50m wage spend that City will probably offer him. As many probably know, transfer fees aren't nearly as much of an issue for clubs as you would expect because of how they are accounted for and the financing available to the top clubs. It comes down to wages in the end, and Liverpool will probably not be looking to expand that too much after the bizarre increase in this years accounts
I think he can be really quite good - but also does have a tendency to get brain farts which results in him either giving up clear chances on goal, or even getting himself sent off, a bit too regularly for my liking. Also somewhat injury prone as of late.
Though it's possible both could improve considerably if he's let go to join a bigger club and isn't solely relied on in the same vein.

By Hitch Go To PostIts a very common opinion (not one that I share tbh), but not seen him solidly linked by any #ITKsI think he's our #1 (monitoring) target going off Joyce and Reddy.
Expect he'll be at City next season. For £50m we'd almost certainly have to ignore other positions that need filling.
I just want us to sign a shithouse DM rather than having a passer there. Like a Momo Sissoko or Mascherano. Someone who's fast, can tackle and gets 12 snidey yellows a season.
Can't think of a modern example.
