By Perfect Blue Go To PostLinked with Chelsea constantly. Not sure if we'll buy him due to his injury.City could do with him.
Also think Ake has looked reliable this season. Maybe Conte will give him a chance.
United Bros let's be honest. We're turning into a "Next year is our year" sort of crowd..
We should be doing so much better with all we've spent over the last few years.

Carrick is such a nothing player. one of those players that because they're so "underrated" they become overrated. he's never been a great midfielder. ever.
Take solace: you'll never catch up to Liverpool.

It'll take us at least another 5 years to Liverpool it.

The ship is already turned around. The 200m+ were about to spend is to drop the equivalent of a NOS tank in the ship
RVP leaving Arsenal made us better. that 11-12 team was fucking terrible, probably the weakest of Wenger's entire tenure - by a significant margin. the whole league was terrible that year.
He had one good season left, before he broke again. Good value for a 29 (?) year old.

I don't think next year is United's year. It is last Mou's year, maybe. And then on to another 3 years of throwing money at the problem.

Cesc broke me. And the broke me again when he went to Chelsea, and Wenger declined to bid for him because.......... .idk
RVP? Fuck RVP. Adebayor had a better Arsenal career than RVP did.

You are wrong.
12-13 we had a better defense than United but we were lacking goals.
By inky Go To PostZabo, tell me about Roberto SorianoI really liked him when he was at Samp a couple of years back, went on record saying I'd love to have him on our bench. Not good enough to be a starter in a club like Juve, but as a second / third choice, sure, why not. Good all around central midfielder, decent technique. Effective going forward, receiving ball and moving between the lines, not quite as good when it comes to defending. No idea how he's been doing at Villarreal.
Why do you ask? Surely not. United can do a lot better. Lemina will be available this summer. 30M€. Think about it m8.
By Wedward Go To PostYou are wrong.
Don't get me wrong; that wasn't really RVP's fault. But relying on a single, injury prone player to be your only goalscoring option was - and remains! - a horrible way to build your team. The team was built around feeding him, and whenever he was out, we were impotent and awful.

ok.
But him leaving didn't make us better. Had we kept him and still made the signings we did we probably would have been able to compete.

I've seen him with Villarreal a few times next to Gio Dos Santos and he caught my eye. He seems to be doing well for them. Figured you knew him well.

Maybe, though this was back in our zero-net-spend days. Still, he only had one good year left. I was in favor of keeping him for a year, then letting him go for free back in the day. I didn't mind selling him.
I minded him being an insufferable prick on the way out.
Clearly, we haven't been able to replace him.

Who cares how many good years he had left. He was able to score 30 goals. 30 goals would have made us a better team.
Not really bothered with it now. Had we kept him for a year and still signed Santi, Giroud, Podolski, which at the time Wenger said was going to happen no matter what RVP decided, would have made us a pretty good team.

Figured you knew him well.Yeah, I followed him quite closely for a couple of months before his move. I was certain he'd be looking to move to a bigger club in Italy, Lazio / Fiorentina / Inter, if not Juve, but I guess nobody was that interested and I seem to remember Villarreal paying very good money to secure him.

Carrick is the glue that held United together for the last 7-8 years. Scholes is a legend and one of our best ever players but in his late early 30's, the period he got all the plaudits for, Carrick was the real heart of United's midfield.
Ba was a good backup I think. Eventually the lack of games and injuries made him a lot less valuable for Chelsea, but wouldn't call him a bad buy, like Marseilles barshudu is.
Tbh I think Carrick is one of the best midfielders to ever play in the Premier League. He'll never get the respect he deserves but is such is accomplished midfielder. One of best ever signings.
By Zabojnik Go To PostHe'll go for about 50M€. 60M€ at most, if United / Chelsea / €$£ club are desperate enough for a striker. It's Cairo. He'll go for €100m, or he won't go at all.
I hope he doesn't leave, though. I hope that price is enough to startle the vultures.
Give him time to break the Argentine's record, then earn a move to somewhere better than United.
For me, the great United teams of the final years of Ferguson's tenure (post-Ronaldo, really) were defined by a ton of a firepower and a great defense. They had a pretty average midfield, particularly by the standards of the top European/PL teams. But were able to hide that through some really shrewd tactics and discipline, particularly in Europe.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that United were never the same team after Hargreaves was permanently injured. And the flimsy midfield was a big reason why United stopped being a European threat after Ronaldo left, a (relatively) fluky path to the final in 2011 excepted.

By Bold 2 in One Go To PostI wish we had better scoutsWe need to be scouting South American fetuses.
I don't see it that way. You can't win a league without at least a competent midfield and Carrick was doing the job of three players back in those days. Fletcher was gone for so long due to his Crohn's disease and Scholes was retired. Even when Scholes came back he couldn't run so Carrick was tasked with closing down in midfield as well as holding position deep to help in defence. Then he was also tasked with playing from deep to start attacks. He was everywhere and doing everything he could. A bloody brilliant midfielder.
RVP won us the league with his goals in 2013. But Carrick was every bit as important. I think he's a bit underrated due to those two Champions League finals. He was well outplayed by Barca's midfield in both matches. But at that time who wasn't?

By flinbad the flailer Go To PostIt's Cairo. He'll go for €100m, or he won't go at all.Nah, Cairo is no Lotito / De Laurentiis. I'm fairly certain that if a club comes knocking with 50-60M€ and Belotti asks to be sold, it's a done deal. There won't be (too) much pressure to keep him from Toro fans either. They know that with or without Belotti their league aspirations won't change. A mid-table club they are, a mid-table club they shall remain for the foreseeable future. Cairo is all about making money and keeping the peace.

Remember that 4 game stretch when Cleverley and Anderson were ripping it up? Shat on Arsenal in the 8-2 game and disappeared a few games after.
Carrick is the type of player in a team that Liverpool supporters have convinced themselves Henderson is because they're masochist.
The only good thing about the RvP transfer was the fact that after every bad game united had under Moyes bud would come up quoting him what he said about Arsenal going forward making fun of United and adding that rvp premface in the end.
God i laughed so much. Moyes saved football that year.

Henderson is a good player, who I think can become a very good DM on this season's evidence*. Not sure I trust his fitness these days, feel like a vague foot issue is always just around the corner. Definitely can't have Can and Lucas being his immediate replacement when he's out.
*not to say he didn't fall to pieces along with everyone else in January and February
