Malaga turn up against both Madrid and Barcelona. It has nothing to do with the rest of the fixtures which has Madrid facing much stronger opponents like Sevilla, Valencia, Malaga(!) and Celta Vigo and Barcelona facing much weaker ones. You don't watch La Liga so you can't know this and I don't blame you.
I didn't agree with the league is over posts either and I apologize for the "common sense" bit, it was uncalled for and last night was very heated.
By Laboured Go To PostDon't do it Willy. It depends. How's the nightlife in West Bromwich?
Completely forgot that Porto played last night so I was a bit shocked to find out this morning that they drew 0-0 with Feirense at home.
Man, if we had won against Benfica we would only be 3 points behind Porto...
Fucking Jorge Jesus, almost as much as a fraud as Pepe.
By Mister0079 Go To PostI don't think it's a huge failure in my opinion, I see things differently.
Zidane has played a whole bunch of youngsters and Madrid youth products. Compare this to Ancelotti who ran the team into the ground playing the same starting XI over and over. OK, maybe we're not winning the league now (which is not over yet, and neither is the Champions League) but we'll see which team comes out on top in the future when Ronaldo and Messi decline/retire. Depending on how we build the team now for the future, we might turn La Liga into our very own one-team league with Barcelona's horrible transfer policy, the neglect of their own youth academy which gave them their best players and their current aging players.
I heard the same speech after Mou was chased out of Madrid. At least the quality of play was much higher back then than now.
I'll believe it once I see it. Not because of Zidane, but because of Perez, who always was a master in throwing road blocks ahead of prospects. Just look at some of the posts here after the loss, filled with contemplation of paying 100M for Griez and dumping Bale, although this is the position that needs fixing the least.

I have a feeling Perez was the one who forced Zidane to start Bale over Isco (who's no longer just a prospect but still) or Asensio so you do have a point. Reminds me of some clasico a long time ago in ancient history where Rafa Benitez was our manager and he seemed forced to play James in the mid despite playing Casemiro there all season. well, half of a season before he was sacked.
The Griezmann posts.. yeah I agree with you. I don't know how this became a thing.
Zidane was never the best tactical manager around, and in that case a step down from Benitez (really!)
But he has excellent management skills to handle the Galacticos which is really needed.

Evening Standard report that Walker has held talks with Pochettino about his future and the club's plans for the coming seasons. Hopefully he put his foot down, a summer of transfer sagas is exactly what we don't need as we move out of WHL and into the Stadium of Doom.

By ATTICUS H Go To PostSchick is fantastic.
Oh my word
10 goals now in fewer than 1200 minutes for a team like Sampdoria at the age of 21.
To put it in perspective, that's more than Dybala with only 2/3 as much time - without denying Dybala is also an excellent player.
People earlier were lamenting the eventual passing of what they consider the current greats, a group of footballers mostly clustered at the big Spanish 2, having myopically raised them to unapproachable "all-time" status, and I can't help but shake my head. I remember who came before, and I look at who's on the way, and I'm not even remotely concerned.
Schick, Belotti, Donnarumma, Locatelli, Rugani, Dybala, Zielenski, Diawara, Kessie - there's so much magnificent young talent blossoming right now, and that's just in the Abyss.

Maybe you'll spend a bit less on new players because of the stadium, but keep together your squad of very good players and staff, and grow as a team month on month, year on year. Don't see why you can't win the title next year.
Wish we could have sold Benteke abroad, but we'd never have got 30m for him

Didn't know the world is just England, France, Spain, Germany and Italy.
YPOTY went to a Spurs player for the 5th time in the last 6 years. Leaving aside that Walker won it when Aguero definitely should have instead, that's some pretty solid numbers.

Ohh my, tough loss does this I guess. We have 4 away games coming up, and I think we all know we'll drop points so I'm confident we're not winning the league. Huge bummer, even more so than us losing by a point the past year, if we can't win when Barca are at their worst, when can we?
I brought up the Bale talk last night, not only because he's always injured (has yet to complete a season in 4 years) but also this:
Bale: 9 goals and 5 assists in 1,924 minutes.
Asensio: 9 goals and 3 assists in 1,616 minutes playing as a playmaker most of the time.
He just been really really awful this season. I get every player has off seasons but he's damaging our chances by always being injured. What's the point if he's always injured?

If he's been really awful, then how is him being injured constantly hurting your chances? If he's been awful than him staying off the field is a good thing right?
By FlutterPuffs Go To PostLast night also makes me wonder how Real will fair against atletico or juve seeing they can't even beat Barca at home. The one positive is we don't have to travel for CL, our players are gassed, so that'll help.
I honestly don't know how we'll play. However, I do know this, if we don't play Isco or Vasquez we'll lose, like we did yesterday.
By Willkiller Go To PostIf he's been really awful, then how is him being injured constantly hurting your chances? Our system adapts to him each time.
Only if he stayed on the bench yesterday and not force the injury again. Had we started another player and not force the substitution, the 4-3-3 and actually fielded someone on form then maybe it could have went another way.
I like Bale, don't get me wrong. He's won us trophies but he's way too injury prone. In 4 years he's yet to finish a season. If he could stay fit I'd want the team to build around him but the dude can't seem to catch a break.

Fair enough.
Having not watching too much Madrid this season, how is the general feeling about Ronaldo? His numbers are down but, from what I understand, he's moved more centrally this season. The times I have seen him this season he's been....ok. Beginning of a decline?
Yeah Ronaldo is declining but he's having a great 2017 IMO, 2016 was hit and miss. We have more individual goal scorers now, 19 different players have scored this season, so it's fair his numbers are lower. He's also defending a lot more under Zidane.
I like Ronaldo in his new role, my only criticism is that he sticks to it and frees the LW for someone else.
