By reilo Go To PostWait, what have SVG and Bower been doing the past 2 seasons if not rebuilding?
They've been building. Putting players around the "core" they inherited.
It's just that ....
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostEllenson and Johnson are busts *probably*, they hate Jackson and have realized nobody is coming to play with Drummond nor is he that good anyway.
So yea, they are rebuilding, but they have pick 16 this year and had pick 18 the year before–prettttttty sure they'd like to at least start getting some picks in the 1-8 range rather than to be where they are now.
The core's flaws, are the sort that they haven't been able to hide. Drummond is your second best big, not your core big, put him next to KAT ,Brow etc he'd be great, brilliant even. But he never developed into the guy you build around. KCP isn't a max player. Etc etc.
They should get adequate trade returns. But they've only got complimentary pieces. Not core pieces.
By Doomsayer Go To PostWestbrook has largely mediocre teammates, as well. The Rockets have a bunch of players who are perfect for the system in place.Westbrook just got there?
I mean, the Thunders second best player is either Kanter or Adams. Think about that for a second.
By blackace Go To PostWestbrook just got there?
I'm not sure what you're asking?
By RobNBanks Go To PostYou can score and set up your teammates.. Harden and Westbrook seem to be doing just fine, and Nash was a way better passer and ball handler so he could have done that without 6 TOs
YNB in particular, sets his team mates up by creating his own scoring opportunities. So teams have to pay extra attention to him. Harden too, but not as much.
Nash did it by running a full offense and making every player on the team better at offense as a result, because they were always in their best positions to score. Contrasted with YNB, his team mates are where ever YNB isn't trying to score.
It's the same oddity that you saw with LBJ's first stint in cleveland. Yeah, he got a lot of assists, and put up numbers, but all of his team mates were objectively worse off playing along side of him. While everyone of Nash's was better.
They're two very different ways to get assists.

They are. But Nash made even scrubs look like starters.
You still think of YNB's team mates as scrubs. Nash got players PAID.
Again, i'm not saying Nash is objectively better or worse than either of Harden or YNB. Just very different.

Now this I agree with. Nash made the players around him so much better. The one thing in common with Harden and Nash is D'Antoni -- who knows if Westbrook would be similar in that offense?
Though, to be fair, I think we all know what Westbrook is and how he plays regardless of system.
Also as another talking point -- everyone shit all over Harden for how he played last year, and this year Westbrook is playing almost exactly the same. I don't see many TV personalities lament him the way they did Harden. I wonder why?
By blackace Go To PostHis weak teammate excuse only works for this season and not the last five…
Ah, got you. KD can cover up a lot of holes, wouldn't you say? I was more just comparing their teams and play style, not really condemning anyone.

Part of hating on Harden for that was because he was a one side player. YNB might be bad at defense, but he really does try. That alleviates some of it.
Part of it was Harden was out partying a lot. Alienating Dwight (not necessarily the only player in history to do that, but maybe the most publicly).
All anecdotal.
But the ringer recently (2 or 3 weeks ago) did an article that started the question, could OKC be better if they weren't going 1 v 5 on offense.

By unknown Go To PostI dont get why they want to stick with the triangle if it isnt working. Not Triangle isn't working either.
By reilo Go To PostRight, because the problems to all your triangle woes is Carmelo Anthony. But he is behind alot of their triangle woes. When Melos not on the floor they're not good enough to beat Kentucky but atleast they appear to be running the system. I still think management mandated systems are fucking stupid but if that's what Phil wants he should have ditched Melo from jump and acquired a bunch of high iq guys that can shoot, pass, set good screens and cut hard. Young guys that can be brought up on the triangle. Instead he tried to force it on a bunch of middling shoot first vets.
Put all your chips into a system at the expense of your draftees and potential All-Star (Kristaps) because the GM that most likely won't be around in 18 months is married to the system and nothing else.

No Melo just hates playing it so confirming that is the future is another "GTFO" to him.

50/50 we're drafting a Kentucky player.....
Anyhow I still maintain he kept Melo because 1) they didn't have another audience draw because PorzinGAWD hadn't been drafted. 2) Even in a lopsided traded (like the Clippers one I feel is going to happen) some assets back is way better than Melo leaving for nothing.
With that said I am completely out of love right now with the triangle because more than it not working (which it goes without saying is a major red flag) They still don't have the personnel to run the damn triangle. Also I am tired of talking about the offense. Its been the defense that has been killing them.

I don't think Phil is in danger of being fired. Like all that Dolan hate goes to Phil unless Dolan does something extraordinarily douchy like what he did to Oak.
Also ironically enough they got the triangle front court..... They just need some aggressive guards who can shoot, pass, and defense a defensive point forward at SF...... Where they could get that outside of tanking for at least 1 more season after this one....I don't know

It looks like that's gonna happen. How good have the Heat looked post-Waiters? Toronto has to play them again tomorrow.
Insanely dumb play by John letting Denis roll the ball ALL the way to the 3pt line then gets blown by for a jumper with like 3 seconds off the clock
You don't see quite that insane of a ball roll outcome off the inbound but people tend to let that shit go further than it should
