By Dark PhaZe Go To Postthere's only a few braindead clubs dumb enough not to run pace and space thoughPace doesn't have much to do with it, imo. It's about generating open looks at the basket and at the 3pt line. Which is all about that space.
Have enough ball and player movement to force the defense to have to react and make decisions. The further spread out the offensive players are, the harder it is for the defense to recover in time, leading to more open shots.
You don't even need particularly fleet-footed players to make defenses scramble, though it helps. I mean, who does Houston have that can quickly go from one spot on the floor to another? Ariza and Beverly? Nah, they generate their spacing by having Gordon, Anderson, and other shooters pull the defense out or run screens to force the defense to make a decision, etc. And then have a single offensive guy making all the decisions with the ball.
Pace can be helpful in forcing mismatches after missed shots, but if you are using it for anything more than that, you get into trouble, imo.
