I mentioned Keith Closs in a tweet last night about not being on the Clippers best team ever and he replied to me.
That's not even the best part, which is that Jim McIlvaine favourited it.

All these rumors of ESPN getting rekt financially
Well no shit. They don't even try to negotiate for these broadcasting rights. The prices have gone out of control. With everyone cutting cords its inevitable in ten years that the tv money goes significantly backwards leaving the nba to scale back the cap or start going insane with advertising to make up the difference

ESPN has no one. Their coverage of everything fucking sucks, the only thing that kept them relevant was people eating up Skip's shit for some reason
“I hope they fail miserably. I hope they fail horrifically,” Cuban told Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News. “I hope Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka go down as the worst GM/President combination in the history of GM/President combinations.”
🤔
Wiz will need to go over the tax to keep Bogs and Porter, but it would be lunacy not to. With Nicholson gone the Wiz don't have a bad guaranteed contract on the roster, so any move at all to shed salary would hurt the quality of the team significantly.
Celtics @ GS tonight--gonna be lit.

Look to see much smaller panels on all their shows by the beginning of 2018.
I think with the burgeoning proliferation of streaming set-top options, the networks will be ok in the long run. Their golden age is over, but they should still be able to write healthy-sized checks in the future since they are making their channels available to these services.
ESPN's "embrace debate" direction was a short-term payoff. Everybody is sick of hearing dudes argue about the most asinine points while they pick up highlight reels in the 4th quarter of most NBA games, or they just highlight one player's shot selection and ignore the rest of the game's narrative. I don't even bother with SportsCenter or EPSN.com for highlights anymore, because there is so much filler in between. I'll just go to NBA.com or NFL.com for that.

I think, for instance, they needed somebody like Bill Simmons a lot more than they think they did, given 30 for 30 and Grantland.

By Kibner Go To PostOn the other hand, The Ringer has been pretty dang bad and Simmons' HBO show was canceled after like ten episodes.Just personally, The Ringer is this super disappointing thing because Simmons decided to basically make it the opposite of Grantlant. It's all bite-sized, pop culture-focused pieces that I really don't care about. The podcast network is trash outside of Masked Man Show, too. It's a bummer.
I still think Simmons is a really sharp guy and that Andre the Giant documentary is probably going to be way rad.
The Ringer's focus is all wrong. The reason people loved Grantland is because it was like the Sports Vanity Fair, but Ringer is like Sports GQ, which noone really wants.
The Ringer just needs a "who wants to read this" filter. Like a good 30% of their articles on the front page are either just the most basic twitter level observations possible, or just shit nooooobody cares about.. it's like they dont have an editor over there or something.
I do like their early deadline grade article.

When Ibaka and Tucker share the floor, the Raptors have a 100.6 defensive rating, which is comparable to the league-best Spurs, per NBA.com.

Yeah, he dumbed it down for broader appeal which made me lose interest entirely. Grantland was a daily read, they had so many genuinely great writers contributing there - Klosterman, Gladwell etc. I could frequently link articles from there to non-sports people. But every once in a while I'll get a link from The Ringer and remember that it still exists. I can't think of any must-read writers there, I don't even know how much output Simmons has these days. The biggest issue might be that I really don't like looking at that bright green colour scheme, it feels cheap and uncomfortable.
That being said, they're not awful. Keepin' It 1600 was very relevant during the election. Some of their pop culture guys are decent. A couple of their basketball guys are decent. They've contracted some good artists for article headers. But it's definitely a notch or two down from Grantland.

Not from that article, somebody from RealGM dug this up - but in case anybody wonders why when Valanciunas gets traded this summer:
With Ibaka ON and JV ON - 114.5 DRtg
With Ibaka ON and JV OFF – 101.6 DRtg
Some of that is because DeRozan is on the floor at the same time though, and 85% of his energy goes into scoring. But still. There's a reason JV hasn't played a single 4th quarter minute since Ibaka got here.

When Davis is on the court without Cousins, the Pelicans are outscoring teams by 4.2 points per 100 possessions, per NBA.com. Bring on Boogie, and that number plummets to minus-7.9. When Cousins is on without Brow, his performance has been relatively unchanged, but the Pelicans are even worse, at minus-17.4, per NBA.com.
👀
Do I need to post the shooting-when-open stats again? Don't make me. I don't really want to. Because that's the issue.
Their defense has been fine. They are 7th since the trade while they were 8th prior to the trade. It's them missing all these damn open shots they are getting.

sample size is bad but bad shooting for the entire team doesn't quite explain cousins' bad on/off impact
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postsample size is bad but bad shooting for the entire team doesn't quite explain cousins' bad on/off impactIt kind of does when a reason they could be shooting poorly is unfamiliarity. When he is off the court, they go back to what they spent training camp and all season doing. When he is on the court, things change drastically.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postsample size is bad but bad shooting for the entire team doesn't quite explain cousins' bad on/off impactI'm far from a Cousins truther, but that team was struggling to adjust to all their usual rotating dead bodies - you add a all-star big to that carousel and nothing is going to make sense.
Its taken GS a minute to adjust to KD and they were actually a solid organization. The pels? With Gentry? They're gonna need a few months.
Tonight can be the acid test. Toronto is @ New Orleans, and I think the Raptors' all-time record against Boogie is something like 1W / 832L.

The per possession stats are damning until you realize there hasn't even been like a 100 possessions with either of them playing without the other.

Brad isn't the same guy in terms of durability or play this year. Maybe its roids, not sure but not complaining. We'd be okay without him until he playoffs with Bojan but probably drop to 4th or 5th
