the pels are truly desperate
(Evans+Hield+Galloway in trade and waiving of Jones in exchange for Cousins + Casspi [who got injured for the season after the first game])
By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthows the rim protection been when both AD and Cousins are in?Mixed results. The only firm conclusions I can come to with their defense is that Cousins is not as mobile as Jones was (so they can't switch as heavily as they have all season), he likes to take charges around the rim instead of trying to contest (usually doesn't work out), and teams keep pulling both him and AD out of the paint (exploits the tendency of the other perimeter players to leak out for transition instead of rebounding).
I'm really trying not to take much out of what the team looks like their first ten games together (they've played five, I think). I'm mostly going to compare what I'm seeing now to what I'm seeing the last two weeks of the season to determine what might be the best schemes for them to learn in the off-season. Because, really, there is too much that needs to be altered in their base schemes to expect things to go smoothly until the end of the season.
There's a new #1 backcourt in the NBA.

Really hope Lowry's able to make it back before the playoffs.
BONUS:
They're almost all from this year, crazy. 6 different backcourts having historic seasons (though two of them are really just because of one guy).
By ESPNBased on the average game score of every start by point guards and shooting guards this season – not just the two best players, but every performance by a starting 1 or 2 – Golden State no longer owns the top spot among starting backcourts.
In fact, the Warriors have fallen all the way to fifth in the box-score metrics that factor in all-around performance. Curry's points per game (30.1 to 24.9) and true shooting percentage (.669 to .618) have dipped this year, and his rebounds, assists and steals per game are all down slightly. Despite a slight dip in 3-point shooting (42.5 percent to 40.5 percent), Thompson's stats are pretty similar compared to last year's.
TEAM GAME SCORE
Raptors 35.8
Wizards 33.9
Blazers 33.6
Thunder 33.6
Warriors 33.2
For the season as a whole, Toronto's starting backcourt grades out as the best in the NBA with Kyle Lowry (56 starts), DeMar DeRozan (55), Norman Powell (8) and Cory Joseph (7) all starting in the backcourt at some point. While Lowry's recent wrist injury certainly changes things for Toronto – Joseph has taken over the point-guard duties while Lowry rehabs – his sustained excellence alongside DeRozan for a vast majority of the season has Toronto's starting backcourt on top based on game score.

im leaning kawhi
but you can't go wrong with either him or harden, I picked Harden in the prediction thread, so it's whatever.
Who wins MIP though? Jokic or Porter?

MVP is basically pick your favorite between Harden, Westbrook, Leonard, and James.
Porter is my bet for MIP.
Porter is my bet for MIP.
Jokic is in his second year and looked like a superstar in the making as of last year so it would be weird to give him MIP.
Porter looked like he might be in China after his first contract not too long ago so it has to be Porter.

By Kibner Go To PostI personally don't like him, either. I would have rather they just kept Monty, but it's still bad form to fire a coach after two seasons. Might make it harder to hire a quality one to replace the previous if there are multiple openings that off-season.I'm a gentry fan. But i don't get the point of nostalgia for Monty.
I also think that their offense is going to change drastically with DMC and AD. Considering the player turn over their schemes are going to have to be basic as fk around those two until the off season.
I really liked Monty as a person. He was an average coach and I view Gentry as just a side-grade, so that is the tie breaker.

I don't think Jokic "looking good" last year counts as a detriment. He wasn't a started last year. Team is building around him this year. That's a huge leap.
But it's between the two of them. Jokic / Porter.

Though, again, it's hard to judge either of them in their stints, fully. Given the fact that they never get the same roster for 50 games.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postso harden is the mvp right
i think we all agree
My preseason vote was Westbrook, but right now I'm Kawhi or die. Like, at this point I'd be sour if Harden got it over him.
Monty was good about putting guys in situations where they can succeed and developing talent. He also lost a lot of assistant coach talent that was never really restocked over the course of his tenure.
Gentry got the job on the basis of saying he would increase the pace and make AD the focus of the entire offense. He did that, but it wasn't exactly the best use of the talent on the team. The only guy who could really be trusted to run the break with AD was Norris freaking Cole. Jrue was too turnover prone and passive, Tyreke never ever passed, Gordon didn't have the handle. Anderson could trail, but that's about it.

Like, really, my most desired change has long been Demps. He's got a great eye for bench talent and I liked his young vet philosophy to put a competitive team around Davis while still leaving them room to grow in the future. The execution of it was lackluster and he gives out bad contracts.

By Draymond“It changed the flow of the game. It changed everything. You get used to playing a certain way. It completely changed it. To me, I think it was completely disrespectful to everyone from Michael Levine to Rick Welts and all these people who’ve done these things to change the game from an entertainment perspective. It gives the game a great vibe. That’s complete disrespect. You advance things in the world to make it better. You don’t go back to what was bad. It’s like, computers can do anything for us—It’s like going back to paper. Why would you do that? So it was ridiculous.”
[…]
“Did you see that first half? It was just bad, sloppy, all over the place. There was no rhythm to the game. All this stuff makes a difference in a game, believe it or not. You get in a rhythm…You turn on music, it just helps you get into a certain area, takes you to a certain place. So, I don’t think they were doing it to, like, throw us off, but it definitely threw the entire game off. They need to trash that. That’s exactly what it was.”

Nothing wrong with the purist approach.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostNothing wrong with the purist approach.Yeah. I'm with you on this one.
Particularly as a season ticket holder. It all gets tedious.
Especially when an arena tends to only have a play list of about 10 songs.

And as an ILP holder, I see the "half time entertainment". It's basically where all the circus acts that used to be in a circus, have wound up. They're all largely boring. Particularly the 5th time you've seen a overweight middle age man balance something.
It's not like this is a live music performance.
It helps make the game more of an entertainment thing. Particularly for those who only go to a few games. Or the casual who just lucked into tickets.
But the excuse that the players expect it? gtfo out of here.

First of all, the players give no fucks about someone spinning plates... They want music. It is and has been a part of the players basketball life basically forever.
Like every sport players have routines and taking it away suddenly for no reason besides it makes the game pure or some season ticket holder doesn't like Sean Paul is basically stupid.. Paying that money you should want the players as happy and productive as possible.
I should get the fuck out out of here now? lol
btw the NBA drug tested Kawhi as soon as the game ended in against Houston.. dude playing on some must be drugs level right now
Music isn't played DURING the game. Does that hinder their performance?
Or is it only a performance increaser during practice / warmup.
During timeouts they should be listening to other things.

Man.. rhythm is a thing. If you have a poor warmup it can very much mess up your day. Do you really think players complained because they just want to dab during timeouts? lol

Do you really think players complained because they just want to dab during timeouts? lolThere are days when I wake up and something distracts me from my routine and it completely messes up my morning to get to work and do what I do. Takes me another few hours to get back on track lol. I can't imagine doing it at a pro-level where people need to go through their routine in order to keep their body AND mind sharp to perform night and night out. It sounds trivial, but it truly isn't.
