It just stinks because the Pels also have 25ish million tied up in players(Asik, Ajinca and Hill) that are going to hamper our ability to address our lack of depth this offseason.
Some bad luck and some bad front office decisions are going to make it difficult to put the sort of pieces I think we need around Cousins/AD.

remember that one time that i said the Lakers were better this year than last? dumbest thing ive ever said.
I think the Pels are just kind of trash at the moment... I thought they were going to gel a bit better.. Guess even I didn't see how bad DMC was for a team off rip..
By blackace Go To PostWho handcuffed themselves to the Smoothie King center in order to hand Gentry fired?A real fan and true patriot.
I actually don't know how I feel about Gentry. He has been given a raw hand to work with since getting here. Still, some criticisms are hard to defend. Like a play out of a timeout that is just 4 players standing around with Jrue taking a bailout three.
By Kibner Go To PostDavid Wesley and Joel Meyers aren't quite sold on Russell being the lead guard for the Lakers.David Wesley would know what it's like not living up to expectations

well he was a starter and statwise D.Russ is basically him in half the mins

By DY_nasty Go To Postyou won't fight me thoover Wesley? lol
Yeah, this about sums it up for me with the Pels. This team needs solid outlet shooters in a bad way.
Any role player that contributes to having a 27% FG% on uncontested shots against the Rockets, at home, should qualify for an amnesty on their contract TBH. Cousins or not.
oh you got us next, i'm sure you will hit the 3 like you're the Warriors and midrange jumpshots like they were actually in style.

Maybe like the Warriors circa 1998. I could see that. Definitely.
By diehard Go To PostUsually they play shit defense and then actually try sometime near the 4th. They actually have the best 4th quarter Net rating in the league at 11.9. The 3rd best team is 5.5, the Warriors are a 1.6.I'm jelly. Just checked, and the stats back up my feelings. Houston are at -2.1.
Games against the Lakers, Grizzlies, Atlanta, San Antonio.. So many where we've been up by double digits only to crap the bed in the fourth.
I don't know if you should be envious of a team that doesn't try against bad teams until the 4th quarter...
I wonder if Zion is getting overrated because he has the same dunk form as LeBron.

The way he elevates and cocks the ball is so similar that I wonder if it invites LeBron comparisons subconsciously.

i need to see him play some travel ball to see how he does against more physically capable players. but he looks like a willing passer and creative finisher on top of being athletic as all hell. i think he for real.
If 3SP was still here, he would love this article about the Pels running the triangle for their first seven possessions against the Spurs.
[…]
Gasp. The Triangle? Yes, the very system that has seemingly become a meme and a constant source jokes regarding the Knicks (lol Knicks). We’ve all heard the criticisms – the triangle is arcane, difficult to learn, only successful with superstars the likes of Jordan and Kobe yadda yadda yadda. The Knicks haven’t done much either to instill confidence in the resurgence of the triangle either. Gone is Derek Fisher from the Big Apple, replaced by Jeff Hornacek. The Knicks have improved from 26th in offensive rating to 16th under Hornacek, yet in a time where the Rockets are hoisting up almost 50 threes per game, the copy-cat league is gravitating towards the pace and space motion systems that seem to be what all the cool kids are doing. The Triangle is looked at as a phase that you thought was cool in high school (pastel polos for me) but really you’d rather forget you ever partook in it.
On the surface, everything about the triangle is contrary to the direction the league is heading in now with the under reliance of a point guard and methodical half court play. Yet with two dominant bigs, the Pelicans themselves are running contrary to the small ball trend that has set the league on fire. But to understand how the Triangle might have merit for the Pelicans, first we have to understand some basic principles. Tex Winter, Phil Jackson’s brilliant sidekick, details 7 important tenets. We will focus on only a few.
[…]
The Lakers had lasting success with it, using variations that included Odom, Gasol, Bynum and Kobe. The Pelicans don’t have anything close to a Kobe on the team, but Holiday is more of a scoring guard than a pure facilitator. E’twuan Moore easily slides into the Derek Fisher role. Solomon Hill, if you take a couple shots of bourbon, can be Trevor Ariza. In any case, what we saw above was an extremely basic portion of the Triangle with limited weakside action. With upgraded wings this summer and a full training camp, Gentry should look to incorporate more aspects of the Triangle. In the meantime, we’ll have to settle for the little tidbits we see on a game to game basis. Who knows, maybe we’ll see a resurgence of the Triangle and the Pelicans will be on their way to 11 champ;ipnsikp[ ringhs.
Also from the article I just linked, some shooting numbers since the Boogie trade:
Moore, Holiday, Hill, Thompson, and Frazier all sport putrid true shooting percentages below 47%. The Pelicans are shooting 21.8% on open threes and 30.8% on WIDE open threes – both are league lows.
You know how sometimes, as fans, we lament our team always being the one someone got a season high scoring game against? Well, here's a chart for that kind of thing:
By reilo Go To PostShocked to see 3 Top 5 defenses in the Top 10 of that list.Could be a philosophy thing. I.e. "let someone other than the stars beat us."
Like on one hand Lakers age congrats on keeping your pick
On the other hand... you've gotta know this wouldn't be possible if you didn't have a group of busts on your hands. Ain't one of those guys finna be shit

By Zep Go To PostNot surprising considering the pace/possessions of a lot of these teams, which is why I'm shocked at Memphis being up there. Slow motherfuckers should be down there with the Spurs.Other outliers are the Sixers (5th in pace), Thunder (7th), Pels (8th), and Hornets (15th). It's why I'm leaning towards it being more of a defensive philosophy kind of thing.
That list doesn't mean much, a great defense might smother a star player and let some scrub go off for 7 points.
The other thing is that a team with a great defence probably isn't in garbage time with the other team resting their starters by the 4th quarter.
By Omzz Go To PostOnly 22, so far. :v e: 23 with Steez
How many players does that make this season for the pelicans
Nine players have more than 1,000 minutes played for the team, so far. Two of them left in the Boogie trade (Hield and Galloway) and a third was released after the trade to find minutes elsewhere (Terrance Jones).
In 2015-16 season, they had 21 players. Again, nine of them with 1,000 or more minutes. Five of them were let go over the course of that season or lost/let-go during the off-season.
There's been a fair amount of roster turnover the last six months, to say the least.
By reilo Go To PostBut Jordan Crawford is an awful shooter. You'd be better off trying Fredette.Agreed. Some of the prognostication is that they want to give 10 day contracts to potential long-term players after this week. Steez will only be available for five games. If they sign a someone next week, they can have them on for the last 30 days of the season.
At least, that is the wishful thinking.
Regardless, I don't like Crawford.
Crawford last played for the Warriors over 2 seasons ago and was still an awful three-point shooter on a high 3PAr. There's no hope for him.
By reilo Go To PostCrawford last played for the Warriors over 2 seasons ago and was still an awful three-point shooter on a high 3PAr. There's no hope for him.Yeah, not disagreeing. The hope among the bloggers I follow is that he is just a short term filler for a week. He is not expected to get a second 10-day or be signed to the end of the season.

On bright side Jaylen is developing nicely. Pair him up Isaac, Tatum, Fultz or Josh Jackson I will be happy.
Don't want no parts of Lonzo Ball.
