By DY_nasty Go To Postskyrim's animations and hit detection were so bad that you could literally swing and miss at a dragon point blankIt is way better in the SE.. and ME's hit detection is not a strong point of the game.
hell, you had to plan for it lol
Shitting on Skyrim doesn't make ME any better. To be honest the way it's getting picked apart in the media baffling and doesn't bode well for the franchise.
I wanted the game to be good... it's one of my favorite series. Up until now it has been highly rated and beloved... Removing any of the real character progression in the game makes basically an ugly FPS at this point.. Despite the jank Skyrim stay fairly close to RPG roots that it came from.. that's all ME had to do for me to be on board.. but sadly they went in a different direction... Def a sale title for me.
By blackace Go To PostIt is way better in the SE.. and ME's hit detection is not a strong point of the game.its not about making ME any better, its about pointing out that you don't need to be a flawless game to be a good one. and media picking things apart is far from the end all be all. it seems every quarter there's a game that the media loves that gets left in the garbage and a game that people hold above all that no one buys.

what IS ridiculous though, is pretending that a fanbase that's put up with a certain brand of jank for essentially decades would all of a sudden throw their hands up in a fit because the jank is still there alongside everything else that they love in the product.
and character progression absolutely exists, not sure where you got that from. just because you can switch loadouts doesn't mean that you're treading water, throwing points back and forth. people confusing the skill system for the profile stuff.
That's been the knock on it from the gamers who love that genre..
First off, Bioware has been known for tight, well crafted stories with less jank than your average wRPG.. So there is a standard of what people expect from a Bioware RPG. Fair or not they set that bar..
People know that any Elder Scrolls game is going to be janky but the other aspects of the game are going to be strong like the different amounts of character builds that came be made in the game.. anything from an arcane outlaw to whatever.. But yeah the series has issues and most likely always will. Skyrim now what 6 years old? and still is compared to any open world RPG that comes out jank and all.
Can't speak for everyone, but for my taste jank doesn't bother so much but all the issues I have read about it made me step away from it

its weak tho
we ain't talkin about gameplay, mission structure, content, exploration, etc - it'd be different if this was hyped as game of the generation

By reilo Go To PostPhaze seemingly likes the story ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Its completely fine for a videogame. Its no TW3 but side quest plots have been mid tier.
The worst part of the game is easily these weird annoying puzzle things and the scanning that comes before it.
I don't even notice bad facial animations anymore. Occasionally you hit a bug where a room has to be cleared out for the game to continue and he's somehow sunken below the geometry :/
Ran up on dude who thought he was scavenging a house solo. Soon as he started looting one hit with the shotty and it was a wrap. Took all his shit including his red Js
I can't remember my exact best finish, but I've been able to get into top 15 as of late. My best round is probably when I had 6 kills or so and was closing in on top 10. I jacked a car and was moving to the new spot and got lit up with a sniper headshot through the windshield and that was that.
It's coming to X1 and PS4, but not until after they finish the PC version. I think the full version launches in Sept.
I've only been messing with the solo mode, but there's a duo, and squad mode too.

But I think that's the whole issue - there's a genuine sense the series has backslid in several areas, or that at least a series that was known for surpassing expectations is now failing to live up to the standards of its competition. It picked one of the worst months in gaming history to hit the market with a so-so product.
You're not wrong about jank in Elder Scrolls, but I think fans understand that it's a tradeoff for how much freedom you have to affect things and how much detail there is in the world. Which is not to say core animations like combat couldn't get better, but it's giving you something to make up for that. It also evolved out of a combat system and WRPG tradition that's based on dicerolls, whereas Mass Effect just lifted its shooting out of RE4.
I would still much rather play ME:A, then any fucking recent Bethesda RPG though. Will just never get them, that people can look over their huge flaws. The games feel so bad, the worlds aren't even interesting and everything is just janky and bad, always have a hard time seeing anything positive about them.

By s y Go To PostIs that coming to ps4?Battlegrounds? Nah. H1Z1 hasn't even made it to PS4 and that was supposed to launch 6 months ago.
I feel like it's a missed opportunity, the only BR-like game on consoles is The Division expansion pack. You would think after all this time someone would want to go after the console base.

It's not off the table at least from what an admin was saying on their forums
The PLANNED release in the first half of 2017 is for PC - the platform for which we are developing this game. Once we've done that, we'll look at our options re other platforms. The reason we say planned and don't just give you a date is because game development is a complex process and things can change, dates may be shifted around.
Full game has been pushed to fall 2017, but either way sounds like they won't look I to consoles until PC version is complete or at a level to their satisfaction.
BTW here's an optimization timeline they have in place
https://www.playbattlegrounds.com/news/64.pu
Day Z was announced for consoles before the gen even started basically. It's never going to happen. Survival/Battle Royale games don't even make it out of early access on PC and I don't think Sony supports early access, Microsoft does but no one gives a shit about that console so outside of ARK no dev is going to waste time.
I'm sure developers would like to but there's really no reason for anyone to try to go multiplat. If there's going to be a BR game on consoles, it has to be made specifically for consoles. Why waste time making a console port when you can have the Valve-case drop system and bring in free money?

If anything, its fallen short in every title while still delivering a solid product.

ME1 - combat nothing like the trailers. the combat seen was literally implemented at the very last stages of development
ME2 - exploration? pfft. here's some corridors
ME3 - do the dew, spreadsheets, can't even walk around the citadel, etc
as for ME:A, the biggest presentation sin to me is the lighting. it makes no sense how awful it is
By s y Go To PostThe eyes look terrible. The lips stand out to me more than anything else. It's like they jump off the character's face when they are speaking.

Right, but Gears is just RE4 + Kill.Switch's cover system. ME:A didn't keep the cover system.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostRight, but Gears is just RE4 + Kill.Switch's cover system. ME:A didn't keep the cover system. The soft cover system is .... well, very different from a lot of things.
Still, you add in boosting/jumping around the place with the combos and abilities and you've got something that's taken an idea and puts its own unique set of legs under it.
People can rightfully go on for days about the faces being jank but the combat is some of the best you could ever hope for in a WRPG

So I get it, there are any number of games that reviewed in the ~70s that I ended up loving. I get that a game that's in your wheelhouse doesn't need to be perfect to be more fun than something that reviews well but isn't for you. And as a guy who genuinely likes the Wii U, I get that the internet dogpile is often just people looking for something to vent on without a lot of consideration.
So I'm open to the notion that this game is an alright time once you get into it. All I can say is I haven't seen the appeal in any of the character interaction/story stuff yet, but 85% of jrpgs are asinine and I still play those so whatever.

I never played persona
Look
Back in the day I played everything...Suikoden, breath of fire, wild arms, FF/tactics, grandia II
It's still in me. Buried deep down
If this game sucks officially taking the consoles to GameStop and saying "here"
Or maybe I'll try Zelda and it's perfection. If I get that far it's literally a cry for help

I haven't played 5, but previous Persona games have a ton of personality + style, and characters you can really get attached to. But I won't lie, the dungeons are a total grind, and they make up the bulk of play time. You really have to be into that sort of thing...or like me, just willing to use the dungeons as a distraction while you listen to podcasts or something.
So be it LFK.
So be it.
Please stay tuned next week for my impressions. Will let you know in the first 30 mins if it's getting dumpstered.

Persona 4 Golden doesn't even let you move until you've gone through an hour of cut scenes.

Reportedly that engine was too much of a cluster to get it ported to PC.
