By livefromkyoto Go To PostIt doesn't seem unlikely at all - it looks like they're just clearing out warehouses of 3DSes in North America then letting it die off, nobody can find New 3DS on shelves anymore. I'm guessing they moved the bulk of assembly lines/manufacturing capacity over to the Switch, and most of what little new stock they have is being sent to Japan/Asia. I'd expect a few more on shelves at Christmas when Pokemon hits, but it seems really clear they're getting out of the 3DS game faster than anybody expected. Apparently Switch orders are so crazy they're doubling production this FY.
But why is the software slate so anemic? Couldn't get a single handheld dev to get a "big" title out in year 1 of the switch?

Capcom let slip that Monster Hunter is coming, they just wanted to milk the 3DS release first. I'll be shocked if it's not getting a Pokemon port this holiday. Fire Emblem is coming, albeit next year. Atlus had a trailer for SMT. Outside of that, what would qualify as a big portable title for you? The only other things I can really think of are things like Tomodachi Life or Animal Crossing.
By reilo Go To Postlol
You lol, but assuming Pokemon shows up that accounts for all their biggest franchises outside Animal Crossing & Donkey Kong Country. Splatoon was really successful WW (~5 million on a system with a 13 million install base). Mario Kart is one of the biggest games in the industry, even though it's a glorified port I have a feeling it's going to sell really well. It sold like crazy to a limited market (8 million+ to those 13 million Wii U owners), but was still well below what that franchise usually does (~15 million on 3DS, 34 million sold on Wii).
The ending of DAI was very lackluster. There was no build up to the final boss. My assassin archer did the dps. Popped something for 50K with the mark of doom.
Also did the Descent/Jaw DLC. Better than the base game imo. Now going to do a warrior play through

Those games always sell. They sold on the Wii U. The Wii U still had a trash catalog. Your focus is so narrow when discussing Switch software support.

It establishes that Nintendo themselves are backing it to the hilt (seriously, imagine what a Sony or MS only release slate would look like for a given year, particularly a launch year). What's really missing are third parties, but who could blame them for taking a wait & see approach?
I think the takeaway here is that what Nintendo does have hitting are multiple franchises that people have a track record of buying systems for.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostWhat's really missing are third parties, but who could blame them for taking a wait & see approach? But we can blame someone for third-parties taking a "wait and see" approach for the third (fourth?) straight generation: Nintendo themselves. They're doing fuck-all in that department. It's a joke at this point.

And that's on Nintendo.
Also, nobody bought a Wii U for those titles, so I don't know why they would make the Switch a system seller all of the sudden.

successors from big time 3DS, either spritual or direct sequels made with switch as the primary development platform
You listed some big gunners, but I'm talking about "smaller titles" like Luigis Mansion 2 and Link Between Worlds sort of offerings that would show up for Switch in between big releases.
If what you say is true and we do start seeing the big handheld hitters develop with switch as the primary platform then I'll jump on board
I find the fact that they haven't advertised this as a thing as pretty telling though, I don't want ports, I want major titles developed for the switch.

I hear what you're saying re: Wii U, but it's clear the Switch's core concept - and presumably Zelda - have been much better received. Based on strong demand they've announced they're doubling output and manufacturing more Switches this year (16 million) than they did Wii Us throughout its lifespan. Presumably sales should scale accordingly. All initial reports are they've got some of that Wii mojo back, people still lining up at stores, etc.

They're going to have to pad out their release calendar somehow, they can't just release 3D Mario & full blown Zelda every year. So those titles are an inevitability. Most of those smaller 3rd party portable titles come from small & mid-level software houses in Japan, who weren't going to jump in feet-first to a $300 console. It did get games like Disgaea, Nobunaga's Ambition, I am Setsuna & Dragon Quest Heroes, but those were all safe ports.
But the Vita is finally seeing its sunset - it's hanging on with ~8k per week sold in Japan and a couple of new releases per month, I expect Sony to announce they're closing down manufacturing in the next year. Switch has been selling out across Japan since launch. It won't be long before there isn't really any other logical place for most of those developers to go.
I'm enjoying Mass Effect well enough. In the few hours I've played though, the combat feels like a massive step backwards, and if I can't get used to it then it'll make the multiplayer a pile of shite. Soft cover is just terrible when its not done properly. The movement isn't sharp enough, and the arenas aren't sparse enough for it to work properly. Also feel like the aiming is off, its somehow not sticky enough, too slow when trying to aim at enemies on the edge of the screen, too fast from nudges making small adjustments and precise aim difficult, too dodgy when deciding which shoulder to aim over.

From my limited reading on CEMU I think it will be. You don't need a 6 core or anything like that.
I just got a group text from the Pokemon go group I used to run with about doing a gym run. The idea that people are still running around playing that game is kinda depressing...
