Yeah you claimed something about call of duty IW by literally watching videos despite phaze telling you facts based on his 4k HDR TV
Remember that
I played UC4 or tried to
You like those dudes who used to cape for FF13 'But it gets better after 20 hours'!
And it's not like anyone claimed that UC4 wasn't without its flaws, especially the slow beginning -- everyone has universally panned that, but somehow you're stuck on that single part and think the entire game is that when people in this very thread are telling you the exact opposite for the latter parts.
By Smokey Go To PostYeah you claimed something about call of duty IW by literally watching videos despite phaze telling you facts based on his 4k HDR TVI claimed that COD games in general don't have greatest of graphics/art styles besides a few set pieces in response to Phaze's "If this was a Sony IP..." claim. How controversial.

Most importantly it makes you feel like an action star as long as you're reasonably careful.
By Smokey Go To PostYou like those dudes who used to cape for FF13 'But it gets better after 20 hours'!What? I disliked FF13 and I gave it 30 hours. I really tried with that game. 2 hours though? Pfft. You spend more time tinkering with graphics settings every day.
Maybe hard to answer (due to lack of high quality vids), but what driving game has better lighting? Driveclub or GT Sport?
Dont think I've seen two better lightning engines imo, something so natural about them

UC4 does start slow but it's necessary to make you care about the completely new character they introduce. From Scotland on it's pure gold.
By the way, the facial animations are insanely good. I assume Naughty Dog used a similar system used by the likes of Andy Serkis?

I wonder if TLoU2 can actually look much better than UC4 in that aspect. They're surely close to hitting diminishing returns.
Am I alone in thinking that LA Noire faces look bad these days? It was impressive yet strange looking at the time, now its just uncanny and fucking weird.

UC4 came pretty early in the PS4 cycle for ND. I bet the revisions/improvements they made to the engine and the ever-evolving nature of facial animation capturing will make it stand out by a couple of degrees to UC4. Although, you could be correct that we've truly hit a point of "how much better can we get?"
UC4 seemed like a natural progression for the series. If you've played and enjoyed the three previous consoles games you'll like 4. It's that simple.
And I enjoyed the beginning and slower narrative sections. It's a well told story and I appreciated being able to avoid many of the combat sections with stealth.

We're at the point where art direction is more important than processing power. That's a very good thing.
That's a big reason the Switch's specs don't bother me much. The Wii U had a lot of great looking games too.

When there's a GTA where every building has an interior and runs at 60 frames - then we can settle and stop asking questions.

By GQman2121 Go To PostWhen there's a GTA where every building has an interior and runs at 60 frames - then we can settle and stop asking questions. There is and always will be a need for more power. More destruction to the environment. More varied AI and more of it. Volumetric for things effects like smoke, flame, and water. The list goes on and on.
Really, though, you only need as much power as necessary to execute the core game concept(s) at an acceptable framerate while fitting the desired visual aesthetic. Sometimes, that may involve simple 2d sprites or 3d blocks. Sometimes it requires 3d model accuracy as close to life-like as possible. It just depends.
Agreed Kibner. Played a section last night in Horizon against a boss that had a bit of cover here and there but it was all destructible. Predictable result? Big bad enemy destroyed it in front of me and made me change up my approach and move around instead of just hiding behind cover the entire time. I can't really recall if any/many games had anything like that even 10 years ago that made a difference to gameplay -- albeit a small one.
By Smokey Go To PostPopulation is fine on PC. The DLC should bring people back too. There will probably be servers that add in the DLC to their rotation. Should be able to filter those and then save it to your favorites (I'm talking about when it gets released to non premium members next week).
You might want to check your filters on the server browser. It's probably showing you games with open slots. If you take all filters off you'll see tons of full 64p servers.
I pretty much just use quick match and I get placed into a slot on a 64p server. I only use the browser if I'm looking for something specific.
problem with Battlefield DLC is that the maps never hang around for long. Only the Karkand and China Rising maps had any staying power, and that's because they came free as part of a preorder (plus Oman and Karkand being GOAT as fuck). The rest will be relegated to 2 Russian servers running 1500 tickets with 25 playercount.

Starting to feel like some people want the open-world genre to congeal again, only in a different structure.

Exploding barrels, wooden boxes as temporary cover, etc.
I think some arcade game from the 70's or 80's had a similar concept. It was a top-down shooter but your space ship was limited to only the bottom most area to move left and right in. There were several structures in the row just above the player's ship that you could use to block fire from the enemy lasers that came from the top of the screen. Each hit removed a pixel of the cover until it was eventually all gone. I just can't remember the fucking name of this ancient game. lol
Hell, Scorched Earth was a game entirely built on the concept of taking and hiding behind cover. Worms is the more popular modern analogue of it.
There was also an old 3d RTS called Total Annihilation that had destructible terrain. The engine was made open source and is known as Spring. You would use the natural cover of hills and mountains and such to protect you from certain angles of attack. Until your opponent got tech that could destroy or go around that cover, that is. The physics were even good enough that if you started to destroy terrain close to large bodies of water, it would drain to fill in the new space, much like real life would.
Horizon is doing similar stuff in 3d with better animations and such, but it's not a new concept.

Damn, Total Annihilation was released in 1997. Wow. I remembered that it was old, but not that old.
A good buddy of mine made a very nice Gundam total conversion mod for it but stopped work and took it down when Bandai started sending out cease-and-desist orders to a whole bunch of fan works. He never got a letter but was worried and did it preemptively before being contacted by Bandai.

UC -> TLOU was the same generation. UC4 looks good, but we are aways from diminishing returns.
By Smokey Go To PostUC -> TLOU was the same generation. UC4 looks good, but we are aways from diminishing returns. And it may not really be power related, either. It could be just learning how to animate the things better with the tools and resources they already have. That or improving/adding better algorithms to generate the proper expressions and transitions to/from based off film-director style emotion annotations they have for a script.

No, I literally couldn't remember. I kept thinking of Galaga. Thanks, btw! It was driving me fucking crazy that I couldn't remember the name of the damn game.

By Smokey Go To PostUC -> TLOU was the same generation. UC4 looks good, but we are aways from diminishing returns.Uc3 looks better than TLOU to me but yeah there's still tons of rooms for improvement.
Uncharted in game models lack SSS so the faces look ugly depending on the lighting compared with Horizon where the models are gorgeous 100% of the time.
Horizon's art direction, image quality and the fidelity of damn bear everything was a game changer. Still cant really believe that it's real, especially with the rock solid performance.
Thats on a standard ps4. Better looking than UC4 and open world, bonkers.
By Hitch Go To PostI like him, but fuck paying for his holidays innitHis project could be interesting and he seems like a nice guy. People have been paying for the holidays of worse people (like Adam Sandler).
By Hitch Go To PostI think Uncharted 4 looks a lot better than Horizon in full screenDepends. Cutscene direction and animations? UC4 hand over foot but in game models, hair, image quality, motion blur? Horizon is tough to beat.
Both are drop dead gorgeous though.
Outside of the clipping against scarfs/head gear, Horizon's hair animations are GOAT. When talking to certain characters, I am astounded by the detail and fidelity of their outfits. I think UC4 has better facial animations, but the game doesn't have the awkward over-the-shoulder face-to-face dialog wheel interaction to compare against.

Been a while since I checked (was looking into it for a place I freelanced at), but I think the answer is not really. Well, at least not as big as Linus and the like.
Money being left on the table. LOL
