By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostI don't want to put words into your mouth, but are you trying to insinuate that Mario isn't mass appeal too? This isn't Metroid. Both series have existed in a space in pop culture, where only games like Halo, COD, GTA, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear exist in (back in the day, Resident Evil). Neither series is niche, and at one point in time every single one of them caused people to choose a platform. Following this train of thought, one could say Halo doesn't have mass appeal either, and everyone here knows that's simply not true.Part of the reason Mario blew up on IOS was because people didn't need to buy some hardware they didn't want lol.
Take Mario for example. They put it on IOS and what happened? It wasn't just diehard nintendo console fans that had that shit sitting in the top 5 on ios. This happened in a space where F2P reigns supreme. Fire Emblem doesn't come anywhere close to the stature of Mario, and yet…they're making bank the minute they decided to put it on a platform that has little to do with Nintendo. Brand recognition means a hell of a lot. Zelda not doing GTA numbers is obvious for one reason: it's not multiplat. Let them put a Zelda game on IOS/Android and this discussion dies instantly.
Some shit transcends console fanboyism and sales. I don't understand how a series as big as this (with a brand strong enough to sell spotty hardware) that has existed and thrived since the 80's could even begin to be looked at as anything other than having mass appeal.

I just got Beseria as well (dat promo copy of that and TLG)... Played it for 10 min (of which 8 were cutscenes) and then quit as soon as the girls voice started coming out of my controller. Stop doing that you devil woman. Out of the speakers, not controller.

Not sure how these two conflicts or why that's funny. I want to play Zelda.
But the hardware is absolutely dog shit that I would rather not use it, if i could avoid so. Makes sense.
I'd be playing Zelda today if Switch wasn't shit hardware sold for a premium. Or if Switch had, ya know, more than one game. But $299 my god.
Been thinking for ages about when and where to buy a switch, whether there'll be a bundle, whether to try and get CEMU running, whether to just play Zelda then sell it and the switch. Every possibility.
The amount of thought I've put into it confirms to me that the value proposition of the switch is notably atrocious, and Zelda deserves a better console and IP holder

I dont know what it is but there's something chill about sitting in a room waiting for your monk to come back with mobs for your team to kill rather than just funneling through the dungeon. Helps that the community's much better.

I really never understood rabid fanboyism. But we're not talking about people rationalizing a $300 purchase to play Zelda. I agree that's insane....

Which brings me to this post, because I'm playing Zelda on Wii U that has a solid library, but the excuse is still there.
If I went one more console back, I'm CERTAIN some of y'all dog-piled on the Wii aand its 420p with waggle controls, too.
I mean, y'all have the right to say fuck Nintendo. It's the desire to play the Mario Galaxies, Metroid Primes, and Zeldas (nod to definitive Bayonetta as well) while saying fuck Nintendo that has a brotha scratching his head.
Y'all shipping 3rd Party Nintendo or something? They have not been interested in an arms race since the GCN, and even then I remember the WTFs because of what COLOR it was.

Nintendo's hardware and online connectivity options suck in 2017.
Their games do not.
It's not hard to understand.
By reilo Go To PostReally? lol
Yeah, definitely. There are a couple of other games that do some of what Zelda does with open worlds - Skyrim, Witcher, etc. But they don't have the same level of gameplay polish or detail in curation of world design, and they certainly don't have the same kinds of emergent gameplay physics going on. I don't know if you've seen this video yet, but there are so many unexpected things that only someone playing the game really creatively would even encounter. I think that's definitely going to make it very streamable:
I'm confused about what the excuse is? Excuse for what exactly? Not buying a switch or wii u? I don't need any excuse for that. I tried to explain why, but apparently that isn't good enough.
I'm not even saying fuck Nintendo for their old ass overpriced hardware. Not as much as I am saying "well I might as well wait to see how it emulates, to see if I can make it not run and look shit".
But actually fuck Nintendo. Fuck you for never releasing mother 3... And fuck your disturbingly attached fans.

I listened to the Playstation podcast for a couple of weeks last year, but after a while I couldn't take that guy anymore. Aside from the politics he was just so arrogant. "Yeah, I went to college for history. Here's some basic thing I remember from second year so I'm pretty much smarter than all of you." After one eyeroll too many I had to unsubscribe.
Earlier today, we got our first report of Mass Effect Andromeda’s PC performance. After EA worried us with recommended requirements targeting just 1080P@30 on High settings, it seems like they were just being very conservative and the game should actually run much smoother.
Bioware’s Michael Gamble, Producer on Mass Effect Andromeda (as well as the original trilogy), commented on Twitter that the PC version is not a port and gamers can rest easy on its quality.
We then asked him if the fastest new single GPU produced by NVIDIA, the GTX 1080Ti, will be able to run Mass Effect Andromeda smoothly at 4K and Ultra settings. Apparently, it may even hit the 60+FPS sweet spot.
Gamble also confirmed that the Day One patch (around 2GB in size) will be ready for Mass Effect Andromeda’s limited launch on Origin/EA Access (available on PC and Xbox One, respectively). If you’re a subscriber of Origin/EA Access, you’ll be able to play the game starting March 16th for ten overall hours in both single player (limited to the first planet) and multiplayer modes
mmmmmmmmmmmmm
origin/ea access 10 hr trial this week if you're on xbox one or pc. if you're on ps4 sony doesn't think you're worthy of such a service.

By reilo Go To PostThe fucking hyperbole, I cannot. I know you play more games than this.
But it isn't hyperbole, it really stands out if you spend significant time with it. Witcher 3's world and narrative are really well done, but even diehard fans will tell you the combat is much closer to 'below average to adequate' than well-implemented. Skyrim's combat is downright robotic. Its world is better designed than prior Elder Scrolls games, which had large sections procedurally generated, but much of it is still quite evidently copy & pasted. In Zelda everywhere that I've been feels like it's supposed to be there and is naturally part of a varied yet contiguous world.
The game has towers, but whereas Assassin's Creed may present a minor pathfinding obstacle then feeds you all the dots on the map when you reach the top, this game builds puzzles out of climbing them, then only gives you the topographical map. From there you have to use the slate as a telescope to scan the environment for landmarks, which you can only manually mark a few of at a time. The game is consciously focusing on self-discovery and putting the navigation experience in your hands to create specific journeys into the distance rather than setting off OCD to clear out everything.
And none of those games have multiple physics routines and complimentary environmental & weather properties that have emergent effects like this:
http://imgur.com/spxxOvV
(Sorry for the url, do we have a way to embed MP4s here yet?)
The player starts a campfire which is spread by the wind to nearby dry grass, which then sets on fire and catches an explosive which takes out the enemies. If he wanted to, he could then ride the updraft from the fire and drop down unexpectedly on the enemy guard tower behind. That's not the way you're necessarily supposed to handle that situation, it's just one of a bunch of things that are inherent possibilities in the environment they've presented.
And here's where we come to the hyperbole - all those other games I referenced are awesome. They got mountains of praise and GOTY nods. So if something comes along that raises the bar on core elements of what they do while weaving them in seamlessly to the already solid Zelda framework, it's going to earn high praise all over the place.
Also, where does the game freezing and dropping to 20FPS rank on the "polish" scale?
I can only speak to my experience with the Wii U version. For the most part it's fine - after 50 hours I've never experienced a freeze, and frame rate is generally stable and dips aren't any worse than they are in Bethesda or Ubi open world games. But it gets much worse than that 20 when you get into towns - in the Zora realm when the rain was falling I was counting the frames. I'm not really sensitive to frame drops at all, I can play Saturn and PS1 games just fine for the most part, but even I'll say that feels pretty bad & very un-Nintendolike, and given the amount of DLC they have coming I hope they patch it. I'd be surprised if they would have released it in that state if they didn't have a console release date to meet.
