Finished Yakuza 0. Majima the GOAT.
It took me 31h hours. I enjoyed the characters and the story, the combat was passable, didn't really care for most of the side content. I did my fair share of substories, tried out most of the mini games, but ... yeah, not for me, thanks. Gomen, telephone card girls.

The meat of it just moves too slowly for my liking and I find the amount of content overwhelming
The proper rendered cutscenes are beautfully directed, which makes it pretty jarring when it goes back to in-engine in the midst of a scene. Loving the setting and characters, so watching others play it is best for me. Something to listen to when it slows to a crawl, and all the cool stuff to absorb. Combat didn't feel great so don't feel like I'm missing out.
Don't regret buying it since it needs an audience to survive, and I had to know whether it was for me or not.

Wildlands feels like an older Ubi game. Like I feel like the last 2 or 3 years they've put out some pretty consistently good stuff. overall Better than almost all the other third party publishers, but Wildlands looks like some shit that was made when AC 2 and Far Cry 3 were still huge.,
like it looks like the most Ubi-like Ubi game in a while.

It's all a rich tapestry.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postcant believe microsoft let mattrick get away with it without putting some mud on his nameI think Nadella seriously questions the degree to which they should be involved in devices at all. Under him the Xbox group seem to have had to do a lot more explaining as to what they're investing in and why. They got away with running in the red for a long time as a long-term play to win the living room. Now that tablets, smart phones and smart TVs/cheap streaming boxes have already done that, the Xbox doesn't make a lot of sense for them as a major expenditure. The only thing it has going for them is consumer cachet, but that's faded somewhat so they're finally moving into what was always the endgame for the Xbox - realizing its destiny as a trojan-horse for the Windows ecosystem.

Playing games away from my PC just feels weird now. Like not even a graphics thing. Just feels like I'm at somebody elses house or something
There's nothing actually *wrong* with xbox being a trojan horse for the ecosystem. It's what they should have been doing 15 years ago lol. They'd be collecting 30% off of every major game release in the marketplace ala Steam today if they had. They are so fucking late on this now that they have to compete with a bunch of successful marketplaces that would be dead outside of Windows though. As a result nobody fucks with windows store unless they have to. Their first party is so depleted now that even exclusives being playable on PC's isn't much of a draw.
This may sound insane, but if I'm MS I seriously consider seeing what I can do to work out a deal with Nintendo on some kind of alliance / merger in regards to the gaming division. Something like " hey look, we don't really want to try to build this brand up anymore, but we recognize we do have a strong infrastructure and some great properties along with a solid relationship with third parties, things you are lacking, and trying to sell these things off piece by piece has limited upside."
MS throwing a hailmary and chaining themselves to Nintendo for a healthy stake is probably a better all-in move than going full sega.

The main thing you're forgetting is that Xbox is incredibly non important to the fiscal side of MS. They eat so much off of Windows and Azure it's insane. They literally did a $1 billion write off on the RROD issues. This may be part of the problem actually. Sony is pretty much PlayStation from a fiscal point and that's all Nintendo has. So they have to go harder. Xbox is a pet project in the grand scheme of things over at MS.

The fact that they can afford to do a deal with Nintendo is exactly why I'm suggesting it. At this point the upside with the gaming division seems bad enough that there's little to gain by selling off properties and what not, but letting it completely tank seems like a waste as well. So yea, they can keep pumping money into it if they want, and they probably will, but I think trying to slide in and see what Nintendo could do with the infrastructure by getting a stake in the company provides the higher upside. For one, no matter how good the gaming division does the image of Microsoft is always going to be the image of Microsoft. That's proven great in some areas, not so great in others. Nintendo DOES have that sexy "apple" like appeal that MS just can't seem to acquire.
The internet might literally break the day MS and Nintendo join forces, or if MS outright throws stacks and buys them.

The Ballmer days are over.
MS bought LinkedIn for $26 billion. Past a certain number you can't say no you gotta answer to shareholders. I mean...They rushed out the Switch in March before fiscal year end when it clearly wasn't ready. Let MS come calling with $60 - $80 billion.
MS wouldn't bother trying to buy Nintendo in my mind, too expensive, but if they can offer them capital and a strong infrastructure + I.P's for a decent chunk of stake in the company (not controlling), then its a deal that could make sense for both sides. It would require a lot of nuance though, but I'm convinced it's a much smarter play than just selling the business off. Who would buy it? Amazon? They'd get killed in the sell and have no upside. The soon MS says its willing to sell they'll be like the Kings trying to move Cousins. The offers are gonna be trash. That's why a partnership makes more sense.
edit: well if they give no fucks then buying a controlling stake might be worth it and probably make things considerably less messy, thing is if they get too demanding all of their talent is just gonna bolt but maybe all they need is the I.P's and brand anyway

By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthow much hype would it be getting if it was a ps4 exclusive I wonderIt would get some hype but if it's nearly as disjointed and the world is as dead as the first game the hype wouldn't last long.
the human on human combat is 5x better than horizon for sure and the slow down time and shoot people with bows mechanics are straight out of that game as well
The nemesis system has always been a unique and interesting gameplay mechanic that I don't mind messing around with again. I'm intrigued by the fact that this game seems to have more emphasis on sieging places and combat because the stealth aspects started to become tiresome with the original. I see there are still some stealth elements here, but doing away with the emphasis on that considerably should help this game a LOT.
Probably not a day 1, but I'll definitely keep my eye on it. Maybe a rental or steam sale purchase.

Mass Effect comes out in 2 weeks and I didn't even realize that until I was looking at new releases. Nothing they've shown of the game has looked very interesting to me but I figured 'surely there's something there' so I youtubed some footage and saw hilarious anime eyes asari loyalty mission and skimmed through it
shooting
turret sequence

bad dialogue wheel with power ranges dialogue choices

That combined with the Giant Bomb footage where hte majority of what they showed looked like it was emphasizing the combat over everything else makes the game look like not what I"m wanting. I remember Brad even saying it felt more like a shooter even compared to ME3 for better or worse. And he liked that game. Maybe they're hiding all the interesting story bits behind the actual release kind of like DA:O but I somehow doubt it. It's crazy to me that I'm not even remotely interested in the game despite wanting to give it a chance for a new ME even after 3.
It doesn't help that I think EA has been absolutely horrible this generation at releases. Very few of their games feel like a complete package and feel very rushed but not like buggy rushed like there's barely anything there or there's just a gimmick with no depth to it kind of rushed. I don't know if they're all focused on Star Wars shit or what the deal is. Doesn't help that Persona comes out 2 weeks after that. The problem really, to me, is that ME is one of the few sci-fi RPGs out there these days. Obsidian keeps making RPGs with good dialogue. always. set. in. fantasy. now. And I don't like fantasy settings. Cyberpunk is on that Star Citizen release schedule. Like South Park is the only upcoming writing heavy rpg that I can think of that's not fantasy

There's not enough cash on hand for MS to make that deal. Despite their missteps, Nintendo never loses money or hemorrhages assets. They got something like $130bil in cash assets lying around, which is like just a stones throw away from what Apple has at $150bil.
Pls God I need it to happen in my lifetime
This discussion is a non-starter if the idea is that MS buys Nintendo. Also, if MS were somehow to pull that rabbit out of their ass, they would ruin Nintendo in 18 months due to their fucked up corporate ways of being. Those two companies are highly incompatible.

Nintendo's not selling out to a foreign investor, for cultural reasons. It's just not happening. They're not just a Japanese company, they're a Kyoto company with roots going back to the Meiji period - there's a distinct difference. It's hard to appreciate it if you've never lived in that city, but the culture is very different and it's the reason why they're so stubborn in comparison to Tokyo-based postwar-founded Sony, even when relating to their own US branch.
And they're not just a company, they're effectively a Japanese cultural institution. When Abe appeared in the Olympic closing ceremony in Rio to promote the Tokyo games as the friendly, familiar face of Japan, it was as Mario. Selling to a US megacorp just wouldn't be done, because "it's just not done" is still a line of reasoning that matters a lot there.
I can't say they wouldn't work with MS, they've collaborated with major foreign corporations like Philips before, though that particular experience may have soured them. But I tend to think the reason they've never invested heavily in the online infrastructure MS specializes in to begin with is that they make their decisions Japan-first and don't think it's of central importance. Not sure why they'd start spending now - and if they did, why they'd go with a US partner who presents language and corporate culture barriers rather than a Japanese solutions provider.

I mean it almost happened... they are a publicly held company they don't have to sell willing.
but since MS almost bought them they seem much more careful about always having 51% of their stock
