The Switch is a very successful console, best selling console in the world since it launched. Doesnt seem very Knicks like to me even if the irrational hate they receive is similar. Back to Doom though:
Can't really tell offscreen but that looks completely playable to me (disgusting jerky motion of the reticule aside). That's not a Vita level downgrade. The fact that a game like this can be played portably on what is essentially a tablet 1/10th the size of a PS4 is pretty impressive even if some concessions obviously had to be made.

Something like Destiny can get away with 30 fps because that's all its ever been. It's a shame, but it's a co-op experience, so who gives a shit.
Doom is all about the speed in the moment. Cutting 50% of the frames makes it a different game.
However, any third party support for a Nintendo home console is better than nothing. They have to start somewhere.
How are all those other new consoles that launched in 2017 selling? Exactly.

Might pick up TEW2. First one looked way too janky for me but this seems better.
So that's:
Dragons Dogma
TEW2
ACO
For October, what else comes out next month?

By reilo Go To Postmasud, the Nintendo is the Knicks of the console world.
No, that's MS. All the money in the world but they're going to end up in last place. Scalebound is the Joakim Noah of games, so broken it couldn't even get out on the floor. We're going to start hearing about Phil being cautiously optimistic about getting traded to Valve.

Some people like bad products. The switch is junk, but I'll end up getting one too.

Docked or undocked?
By Silky Go To PostDocked or undocked?I think that was undocked, so maaaaybe 720p docked?
It would be cool to see an Android or iOS port, even though the controls would suck it would be interesting to see it running on an A11 SoC.
By Silky Go To PostDocked or undocked? Most likely undocked. That's the only way people played it in the Bethesda event.

The masses don't care or even think about this shit. That doesn't make it not hilarious though.
I wanna buy Thimbleweed park again just cause I think I'll actually finish it this time if I can play it in bed.
That was my point... You have cats in here asking why they even bothered making the port. And I dont see why it's hilarious that a little 300$ tablet can't match the fidelity of vcr sized consoles. Were y'all laughing about Vita games looking nothing like PS3 ones? Whats funny to me is people seamlessly transitioning from "lol Switch is last gen" to "lol the Switch can't handle current gen ports without some concessions" without a hint of self awareness.

I mean, I purchased a laptop that cost 56.7% more than my PC because GAMING IS Serious ****ING BUSINESS.
So yes, I would expect a $300 system released in 2017 to handle a port of a arguably the most optimized game in 2016, that was also multiplatform.
I buy Nintendo systems because their first party stuff puts everyone else's to shame. But I will also shame anyone who thinks 30 fps is acceptable for a game like DOOM.
Like I said elsewhere, this does not bode well for Skyrim or Wolfenstein 2.

A 300$ portable system! I don't get why this is being glossed over. This is probably the closest a portable has ever been to matching current home consoles (maybe gamegear/genesis?).
Last week I took it to work cause I had nothing to dothere. I also play it in bed or on the the couch while my wife or kid use the tv like everyday.
Anecdotal and all, but I ask because I take public transit (MUNI Metro) every day (minimum 30mins each way and hyper busy) to work and haven't seen a Switch in the wild since it launched -- and that was a Japanese couple most likely visiting from out of town. I also live in the most in-tune tech city in the world, so, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Switch is basically a Sega Nomad with a lithium ion battery. Yes.
Portability is glossed over because gaming-on-the-go is more marketable to youth (looking forward to those Nextdoor posts about kids leaving their Switch at the park, lol), college towns, and folks commuting in big cities that actually have public transportation. Not really a thing for the 9hr day job person living in the Midwest or South. Coasts? Sure.
By reilo Go To PostWhen was the last time you played it on-the-go?I only dock mine when I have friends around for 1-2 Switch and Mario Kart.
The Switch is what it is because of practical limits of technology in 2017. Heat, battery life, size. We even had this discussion in detail here. If it were more powerful, it would be a failure in every other area of design. I'm sure Alienware laptops are great and all but they're huge, crazy expensive and would melt children.
It was a long, long time after launch before I saw a 3DS (or Vita) in the wild too. Japan's a different story, portables in general are more common on trains. Phones still overwhelmingly dominate as commuter distractions though.

And like mentioned before, because they went portable they sacrificed on both sides to make t work. Not that great of a portable device, not that great (okay terrible) of a home console.
