What is this Dauntless game I'm seeing some guys play on Twitch? It looks like a Monster Hunter clone?
By Kibner Go To PostWhat is this Dauntless game I'm seeing some guys play on Twitch? It looks like a Monster Hunter clone?basically. pc only, at least for now

I'll be running a HeroQuest 2.0 game in the coming weeks for some friends of mine. It is a tabletop RPG. We are going to be trying out one of, if not the best, hex-crawl campaigns ever published for any tabletop RPG. It's called "Griffin Mountain" and here is the cover:
It looks like it's really old and that's because it was originally published in 1981. I'm running the second edition of it which was originally published in 2001 but had .pdfs of it released as recently as 2010. So, yeah, it's old. But the setting of Glorantha is just too good and the HeroQuest 2.0 ruleset is just so easy to run.
A couple of my friends who will be playing in it are on the other side of the country so we will likely be playing over discord and maybe using Roll20 for maps. The campaign book itself is 270 pages, so I have to familiarize myself at at least a summary level so that I can quickly pivot to whatever the players are doing.

The Glorantha setting itself is pretty rad for a fantasy world. Technology level is roughly Bronze Age and the world functions around myths. One of the tag lines is "All myths are true, especially the contradicting ones." And there are a lot of conflicting ones because there are over a dozen races and dozens of cultures, each worshipping different gods, creation myths, and legends. And all of them are true.
You see, people can go on what's called a Hero Quest, which is basically reenacting a myth or legend. Depending on how far you go to replicate it and how much you believe in it and your desire (and probably other things), you can actually rewrite the myth or bring something back from it. Like, if you underwent a Hero Quest for something like Jason and the Argonauts, you could cut your Hero Quest short and come back with the Argonauts of legend to help you in whatever task you went on the Hero Quest for.
If you die, your friends can travel to the Underworld and retrieve your soul to bring you back to life. Unless, that is, you are killed by Chaos. Then your soul is destroyed and you can't be brought back from the Underworld or participate in reincarnation. The other big problem with Chaos is that currently the most powerful empire in the world worships it. And they are a militaristic nation.
It has a bunch of unique (at least at the time) take on races. Elves are plant people, dwarves are stone, dragon race called dragonewts undergo reincarnation as they progress through life stages, humans are just trolls that were made without the use of the darkness rune, and many more.
Perhaps my favorite race, though, are the ducks. Imagine a Donald Duck that is bred for war and always angry and that everyone hates. That's them. They are cursed to never to fly. If they create a plane, or launch themselves from a catapult and glide, or attempt some other form of flight, they are struck down in a terrible way, like Icarus flying too close to the sun.

So that this isn't completely off-topic of video games, there is actually one made in the Glorantha setting called King of Dragon Pass. It is available on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS X, and Windows Phone. $12 on Steam right now.
By mspoweruser.comXbox One X: Project Scorpio Edition leaks ahead of reveal
It looks like Microsoft will incorporate the name of Project Scorpio in the console. According to various images that appeared on Twitter and on various German retailers, Xbox One X: Project Scorpio Edition will be the Day One version of the console. It looks like it has an amazing textured pattern on one side too. However, the star of the design has to be the “Project Scorpio” in green letters on the front of the console and the controller.

Slick. I kinda want it...at least until I remember that it has nothing. Crackdown even got pushed into next year. I own a PS4, don't like EA games and don't have a 4K TV. There is literally no practical reason for me to own this. MS, why?

Just fished Divinity. Very enjoyable. Played a rogue class which was straight terrible experience.

Playing Madden Ultimate Team in M18...
Man the amount of loading in MUT is already getting to me. Too many of the challenges are simple and require going back to the menu when done, loading up another challenge, and then waiting again for loading.
But gawd damn, this mode sucks me in ;_;
