By livefromkyoto Go To PostIsn't the darkness just portrayed as the entire horde descending on the Earth? Maybe there's a dark equivalent to the Traveller, but light is a general force rather than an individual, so I don't see why the darkness would be. Oryx is the real final boss of Destiny 1.
basically the idea that traveler: light does not have a direct opposite in ??? : darkness
By livefromkyoto Go To PostStill GOTG TBH.For console shooters, absolutely.
Think it's a shame Bungie are focusing on the cabal btw
They're definitely the least interesting faction to look at

they really couldn't get away with not giving us a cabal raid at this point though
guess they could have given us another fallen or vex raid--I want nothing to do with the hive until the final expansion of destiny 2

That I wouldn't have a problem with. They announced that it was a 10 year project at the beginning, I think any series aiming for an arc like that would hold back something like that for the finale; that's usually a late second-act reveal.

Jason Schreier: First thing I have to ask you about: I saw this Game Informer article. In it, you said that you guys will not be talking about The Darkness in the game.
Luke Smith: Yeah.
Schreier: And your explanation was, I believe, something about how it’s not time to reveal that, or you’re focusing on something else, correct?
Smith: Yep!
Schreier: Tell me the truth. Is it because none of you have any idea what “The Darkness” actually means?
Smith: So, I think that at a point, just totally candidly? We had no idea what it was. Straight up. We had no clue.
Ghost Recon was so shit that no one cared the final game looked or played nothing like the reveal trailer.
Ubisoft have a proven marketing strategy when premiering new projects that clearly works.

By s y Go To PostSaw this posted the other day and looked up some slaenters….No one even has 1,000 hours. That is such little time, it's like they barely played at all.
*snip*
I didn't know it was like that
(it should be significantly more than that as Steam wasn't very good at tracking hours played back-in-the-day and I think I also reset my hours at some for some reason after hitting like 500)
By Smokey Go To PostI'm sure you'll find out more about the darkness in Destiny 2Completely different form of entertainment, but GMs of well-run tabletop games often have a similar approach. Don't define or set anything in stone. Talk about it in vague terms. The important part is to then listen to how the players/characters talk about it. The GM then plays into their table's beliefs and pervert them a bit as it comes time for the reveal.
It does a great job of maintaining mystery while also giving freedom to do things however you want and still keep the players interested in whatever story element that is.
I wish Housemarquee would hire some new artists. Their graphics are always super powerful but just have the most plain as fuck art style imagineable.

That most are bad, doesn't really change my mind, even if I agree. I like a good video game story, it doesn't have to be as good as a book, movie or tv show, even if it's nice. Of course some games also absolutely don't need one, like an online shooter I more often than not care nothing for the story.
But I'm playing Persona 5 right now, and I fucking care about that story. Is it extremely well written or deep? Not really, but just the story progression is nice, and interesting even if it's not amazing writing. I want to see what happens next, what happens to the characters and so on. If it was just the core gameplay I would not be interested at all.
(of course we also got amazingly told video game stories though, like Silent Hill 2 and To The Moon that are among my favorite games of all time).

Okay, that is pretty hilarious.
But did we ever find out about the tragic backstory of the helicopter at the end of The Division?
By Hitch Go To PostTLOU has neither a big antagonist or a proper resolutionnot far from the truth, i do hate its resolution with a passion though
Dy must think it's the worst story ever told

I don't really trust anyone to do it right. At best, it is a tiebreaker when I'm trying to decide between what game to pick and, even then, the characters and how they are written is more important than story to me.

I would say that the way characters are written, is a pretty huge part of the story. But I do agree, most games stories are shit. Last game where I kind of liked what it was going for with its themes of the story and such was Soma, and sadly that had too shit gameplay to keep going at some point. Life is a struggle.
I tried imgur first, but they banned the user I was logged on to, due to accidentally publishing a gif of Wilbur showing his balls once.
There we go. A real game for men to grind in. Fuck online shooters bois.

Certainly true. Uncharted series is a good example. The stories seems to go from background filler to being actually annoying somewhere in the last 2/3, but the characters make up for it.
I care far more about good characters than a good story
video game narratives are super generic, even the good ones.

By s y Go To PostA videogame's story just has to be good enough to not make me want to skip the cutscene.shit naruto fans say
skipping hundreds of episodes at a time but talking about standards
My video game stories just have to be good enough to not get in the way of gameplay. So, less quality of story and more how much it actively takes me away from playing my game.

By WutangPiingu Go To PostI have not played Nier, because the first one was trash. But even then, I am willing to believe it's better than FFXV.
I tried to play Nier a few months ago but it has aged like a PSX game.
Also, the story is hyper-Jap. Not my thing.

It's been confirmed by multiple people that stores have received the game and it's supposed to be out next week.
Weird that Activision haven't said anything about it.
