Critics Consensus: Hugh Jackman makes the most of his final outing as Wolverine with a gritty, nuanced performance in a violent but surprisingly thoughtful superhero action film that defies genre conventions.
Mangold has posted some cool photos recently too:

The third 'Wolverine' film brings the saga to a satisfying finish, as Hugh Jackman's mutant slasher finds his powers on the wane.

Bottom Line: Logan is a violent, emotional masterpiece and the perfect ending to Hugh Jackman's run as the Wolverine. 4.5/5

If anything, it's the other way around.
I love TLoU as much as the next person, but its aesthetics aren't unique, especially within the genre. Hell, Revolution, the short lived kinda bad TV show had very similar aesthetics, and that came out a year before TLoU.
Plus, if you're not familiar with James Mangold's work, he's been doing this entire aesthetic for most of his career.

Let me start by talking about the low points of the movie : the villains are kind of weak and there's a "thing" that's very predictable but the reason I still give Logan 5 stars is because both things perfectly server their purpose for the story.
With that out of the way, I can claim without any doubt that Logan is the best X-Men movie yet. As The Dark Knight did before, it elevates itself from the comic book genre to be an extraordinary movie on it's own right.
It's easy to see why both Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart decided to bow out of the franchise with Logan. They both give their best performances yet on their roles. Their final scenes are powerful and emotional, both actors are on the top of their game here.
But yet, it's a 12 year old girl who nearly steals the spotlight from both.
Dafne Keen is as sweet as she is deadly and she does it without talking, mostly. X-23 is a force of nature, it's incredible to see a small girl completely wreck groups of armed men with ease.
And speaking of wrecking people, Logan uses it's R Rating with pride.
The fight scenes are absolutely brutal, limbs go off and blood squirts everywhere, it's a feral ballet of claws hitting flesh.
It took 17 years to finally see Wolverine completely rage out on screen but it was worth the wait.
Mangold definitely deserves a mention, the film was brilliantly shot and perfectly paced. Those 147 minutes just flew by, so much that when I checked my phone, I was surprised to find out that the movie had been that long.
He knows exactly when to turn up the action and when to let the story breathe.
It's a western, a road movie, a tale of pain, regret. redemption and hope.
It is a movie that needs to be watched by every Wolverine fan and even by people who never seen an X-Men movie before.
Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart said goodbye to Logan and Charles Xavier but they left us with a precious gift.

Breh the theater was dead ass silent other than some sniffles (including mines) when the movie ended. I don't think I've ever experienced that in a movie.
I came here to testify that Logan is not without flaw, but it is indeed the best that "superhero movies" have to offer, and I don't see it ever being topped.
Ever.
And yes, Dafne Keen has supplanted Edward Furlong as best child actor (in an R-rated action film).

Yo dawg, when that one guy shows up against Logan. Holy shit. When ever X-23 is on screen, Holy shit.

Damn, I thought I would be able to wait for this on Blu-ray, I keep hearing nothing but good things though.

By Apollo Go To PostBruh I got super emotional this morning when talking to my friend about the movieI know the lineup for New Mutants has been more or less established, but you have to give Keen and X-23 more time after this.
There's small stuff wrong with this movie but every note it wanted to hit got knocked out of the park.
Really enjoyed it.
Only two things bugged me. 1) I thought Merchant did not suit the tone of the movie. 2) How the fuck did she film all the footage in a supposedly top secret facility, and manage to smuggle the phone out. It just wouldn't happen.

my ONLY complaint about this movie is that they couldn't let this movie end without throwing the x-men under the bus again
random radio chatter revealing charles blew away (what we can assume) 8 core x-men members
for fuck sake they had to get their annual punch in

Charles portrayed his illness amazingly though. He was still lovable and himself at times but as someone who's seen family slip away to mental illnesses... too spot on.
By DY_nasty Go To PostHe pretty much killed the whole school. Charles calming the horses, X-23 learning new things in her environment, Logan being a giant asshole and causing more trouble for the family by instigating against the corporate cowboys, and then Charles having his last eloquent speech to whom he assumes is Logan and telling him how much he enjoyed this past day only for X-24 to be revealed in the most brutal manner. Oh, and the father still being alive and going baws on X-24 and about to put two more slugs into Logan because he blames him (rightfully so!) for his family's misfortune because even if X-24 never showed up, the corporate cowboys would have and fucked his family's shit up. Great great great act in the movie.

Xavier killed 7 people in the accident, we don't know if they were all X-Men. The rest were probably killed by Pierce and the company as he says that Caliban used to track mutants for them.
Great film. Loved Laura, Xavier and Logan. I never understood if the bad guys were stronger or anything or just had robot arms for some weird reason. Anyways, it's a great goodbye to the series as we know it. A part of me hopes for a new film about Laura and the others, but the other part hopes they will leave it all alone as the great piece of cinema that it is.
If there is a reboot I want Tom Hardy as wolverine and I demand the comic suit. Doesn't necessarily have to be the yellow color scheme, but the wolverine vs predator short film showed it can definitely be done right.
And then someone with star power as Cyclops so they can stop fucking with him.

Folks say everyone dies in the movie so the family is fair game, but I'm still counting the slaughter as a trope rather than representation.
By n8 dogg Go To PostPretty good. Best x-men film since x2. Bit long and repetitive.Agreed. 3/5, about as good as the last Wolverine movie.
Thought the movie was pretty alright. Best X-Men movie by far, not counting Deadpool..which is the best FOX/Marvel funny book movie. Ran a bit long in the tooth. Disappointed the villain was just another in line with the other Wolverine movies..
7.5/10
Really hope these studios don't take the wrong lessons and decide everything needs to be an R rated flick. Leave it for those that warrant it..

Good movie. I'm not into superhero stuff, but I know some of the mythology.
I still see Patrick Stewart as Picard, which works toward the film's benefit. Thematically, I felt myself almost completely alienated by the child character, and I think that was intentional. I was Wolverine.
This was the first big budget movie to so blatantly make me feel as if, at my age, I belong in a parental role. Really brilliant and subersive if you can get past the ultra-violence.

Great movie, by far the greatest x men movie and up there with the best superhero films etc etc. My only complaint is that the dude above didn't get more screen time, waaaaaay more fun and interesting the boring scientist dude.

I thought his character was kinda meh, but maybe that's just cause his character on Narcos is so shit. I did think the scene where he introduces himself to Logan was pretty good.
Anyways Logan is a tremendous fucking movie, best I've seen since Fury Road.
