Yeah hes a bit boring now
His HBO show is also not good. Despite not being able to name one film he's ever appeared in that I think is decent, I still like him an awful lot. His SNL stuff is actually very solid.
Pain & Gain was great, as was Fast Five.
He has all the charisma and physical chops to be this generations Schwarzenegger, but his movies are just so... basic. Not that Commando and shit like that were high-brow or anything, but at least they had charm and self-awareness that his choices lack.

It Comes At Night was pretty good! actors did a good job and I love that not everything is explained. Director definitely didn't want to hand hold the audience. The grim reality that the characters have to live in is portrayed very well.
edit: The tone of the movie never ever falters, felt tense throughout.

That Bill Burr bit is funny because it's so accurate.

The only one worse at picking project than Dwayne gotta be Gerard Butler. Killed in his starmaking role and killed in the only audience/critics darling he was ever in.
Rest sucks/underperforms/bombs.
Collider reporting that Matt Reeves wants Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Affleck as Batman.
That would be quite the interesting casting choice.

They should've gone with (or rather persuaded) Josh Brolin. An old and broody Batman would've been da bomb. I can't believe how badly it's all been handled.
Sure, following up Nolan's trilogy was going to be an impossible mission but they just completely fucked it.
I have respect for Zack Snyder as a person - he seems like a genuinely nice guy - but he's a terrible director for this franchise.

Mudbound is getting rave reviews with some even claiming it has a good shot at winning awards.
Sadly it's not available on my Netflix region right now, I was really hoping to watch it today.

Netflix about to release my favorite movie of next year
While cinephile purists might gripe about Netflix and their streaming ways, it can’t be denied that the streaming platform is giving financing to auteurs that traditional distributors can’t or won’t. Following “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected),” writer/director Noah Baumbach is going back to Netflix for his next project, and bringing along a helluva cast.
Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, Laura Dern, Merritt Wever and Azhy Robinson will star in Baumbach’s new film, which is currently untitled, and about which no details have been revealed. Driver has become a regular Baumbach staple, appearing in “Frances Ha,” “While We’re Young,” and “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected),” and Wever (who is currently earning great advance notices for her work on Netflix‘s upcoming “Godless“) had a small role in “Greenberg.” Johansson and Dern will be new to the world of the filmmaker, as will Robinson (no surprise, he’s a child actor).

For the love of God, hasn't anyone watched Mudbound? I am so jealous of everyone who has the opportunity to watch that right now, to the point I actually tweeted Netflix Portugal when they are going to put it out.
The movie looks amazing so, please, someone watch it and tell me how good it is so I can be even more jealous.

I can't believe we live in a time where a Thor movie has a (pretty significantly) better opening weekend than one starring the entire Justice League.

By diehard Go To PostBut its a better movie so thats a good sign.It is! Even the last Transformers movie underperformed, so maybe people are catching on to all these bad blockbusters.
I actually think James Wan's Aquaman will be good, though. That dude makes good movies and deserves all the respect for somehow salvaging Furious 7.

Never seen Dune or read the book tho; is it like Star Wars in the sense of different aliens and planets etc?
Villeneuve is a good filmmaker. I really liked Sicario, and Arrival was decent for what it was.
What he does with Dune will be interesting because the inspiration for Dune comes from the political intrigues of Saudi Arabia and how their oil business intersects with the religious factions and the royal families.
So, the opportunity is ripe for commentary like it was in Arrival.

I read the first book, saw the mini series and watched Lynch's adaptation (which I don't hate as much as a lot of people), thought it's been years. It's a great sci fi. There are different aliens and planets in Dune. Most of the story takes place on one planet though. The reach of this specific political system in Dune is dominated by one thing. Spice. It's a drug like substance and it's only produced on this specific planet, which is also a giant desert where everyone struggles for water. There's mystical aspects as well as sci fi elements. I'm hyped about this.

Yup .... various warring factions of royalty with the common man stuck in between.
By Apollo Go To PostIs Dune worth a read?Yeah, its pretty good. You can also see how many other things take ideas from it.
I don't like Denis at all anymore. He makes beautiful movies that are just so flat to me.
By Apollo Go To PostIs Dune worth a read?I'm willing to bet that Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune could put him in that James Cameron and Christopher Nolan echelon.
James Cameron has extricated himself from that echelon
How long has it been since a good Cameron film?

Well Avatar was okay. The action is very good, much as I dislike the rest. Eh.
Last great film was probably.. T2? Although I like True Lies a lot, Titanic has a lot of fans and obviously he's made 2 films in 20 years.

Dune needs a refresh. It’s TV adaptations have all been meh to ok at best. A lot of that is due to special effects. Lynches adaptation for their fighting capabilities was joke status. I’m excited to see what he can do. I loved arrival
Were not Con Air and The Rock a couple of all-time greats, with both being Michael Bay movies to boot?
I now put Michael Bay in that echelon.
All that Zack Snyder needed is one more hit like 300 and we could be having a completely different conversation right now about the entire universe, much less the DCCU.
The Wachowski Bros. still get honorable mention for that first Matrix and finally for V for Vendetta, too.

300 is garbage.
I threw a Sucker Punch Blu-ray in the trash and two days later the police were at my door handing me a citation for littering.

By GQman2121 Go To Post300 is garbage. The sequel to 300 is better than Snyder's 300 btw. It wasn't completely dependent on "moments" like Snyder's film is the through line of Eva Green manipulating whatshisname from Lost...Xerxes is very compelling. Oh and the nautical aspect too.

And let's be real, the 2 minute trailer with NIN for 300 is better than Snyder's full movie. I said way way back. Maybe even on the IGN boards when I was there. I knew that he couldn't sustain that for 2 hours. Since Snyder has the mind of a music video director the trailer does everything he could not.
