By Freewheelin Go To PostSo I saw "Mother!" earlier today….uhhhhhh it was interesting and definitely made me think about the film as a whole but I can also see why people hate it, it's definitely a divisive film. It is not his best film, but I admire its ambition and what Aronofsky was going for, and it's absolutely his vision put on there, warts and all.
Last 30 mins are pure insanity and shocking though. Madness, absolute madness.
No rating cos I want to think about what I saw today and let it sink in.
lmao in the last 30 mins i remember turning to my buddy like "ok i can see why people would walk out of this"
fun movie though.
By Wengward Go To PostThat would be Jeff Nichols.
See how he's doing in twenty years. People forget that Noah started in the 90's.
Man, L.A. Confidential turns 20 this week. Amazing movie that still holds up, easily one of my favourite movies of all time.
By Apollo Go To Postthat looks decent. Incredible
October is going to be great for movies

Can't agree about Beast of No Nation. It had good parts, but overall is was ok at best.
Will watch I don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore

So you ask if Netflix have made any great films.
People tell you one that is critically acclaimed.
You then say it isn't good.
By Wengward Go To PostSo you ask if Netflix have made any great films.Honestly I had no idea it was critically acclaimed. I watched it back when it was released and a lot of people in the thread (here or in footygaf) weren't that blown away by it.

I was asking because Amazon already has The Big Sick and Manchester by the Sea, and I assume there are more that I haven't seen.
I don't think any of those movies were produced by Amazon. They were distributed by them.
Same might be true of those Netflix films.
The difference is Amazon is releasing films in theaters. Netflix releases them on Netflix. Looks like the Meyerowitz movie will also get a theater release.
If you are interested in your movie being in a theater (like most film makers are) Amazon appears to be the better choice.

Amazon and Netflix aren't really comparable in terms of movies, it's easier for Amazon to get movies because their streaming service is the last place their movies get released while Netflix puts it on streaming before anywhere else.
Manchester By The Sea wasn't on Amazon's worldwide video streaming service 8 months after it's theatrical release, no idea if it's already there.

It has been up for a while in the US.

I wouldn't pay the service just to watch 1 or 2 movies, I only do it for the series

Regarding if the movies were produced by the companies or if they just bought the distribution rights, I think most (if not all) of Amazon's movies they just bought the distribution rights, Netflix has produced at least War Machine, Okja and To The Bone.

Netflix has no problem dropping big cash on movies, they spent 90M$ on Bright and I think 100M$ on Scorcese's next movie.
To be fair, it's worth for them. Their subscriber numbers keep raising while Amazon's video streaming numbers are apparently pretty low.
13th is a good netflix film - Its a documentary about race and the US prison system. I also enjoyed Ukjo. The Circle was OK, similar to Black Mirror but not quite as good.
If RLM didn’t like it there’s a chance it’s pretty good. It doesn’t seem like a movie made for guys that would release videos on YouTube

I've watched 5 minutes of that video.
Horrible. Troubles me to think that anyone finds them funny/entertaining.

By Wengward Go To PostIs the guy on the left the one that does the dumb voice?yeah, he has a great understanding of movies but opinions are closer to the "everyman's" opinion on things. The other guy is the artsy-fartsy movie lover who can recall the most obscure actor/director in the most random movies off the top of his head.

I love when film reviewers spend 5 minutes talking about what a pretentious douche they think the director is. Makes for a great review.

By cashman Go To PostHow does Wes Anderson always get such an amazing cast to work on his movies?
Because his movie are mostly critically acclaimed and are nominated for awards. Looks good on the actor.
Hot take coming through.
I've watched a ton of martial arts movies and HK cinema and Donnie Yen is the most soulless martial arts movie actor of all time. I don't know if its all the plastic surgery or not but dude has zero presence or energy.
