It's a loss, and a yuge waste of party money, but the Trump affect is clearly reaching more and more people all across the country.
- 100k new registered voters in the 6th district
- Ossoff passed Paul Ryan ($19.8m) for the most congressional donations ever for a single race ($23.4m). His opponent racked up $4.3m
- This ended up being the most expensive congressional race in history by nearly $20m
All that from a 30 year old film maker who has zero experience with public office and didn't even live within the district he was hoping to represent. But no one else wanted this fight.
This is a seat that Newt fucking Gingrich held for 20 years starting in 1979 after the 25 year Democratic incumbent, Jack Flynt retired after running unopposed for 8 of his 9 terms in the 4th and 6th districts. It's been red ever since.
Anyway, dems need to win 24 seats to take back the House. There are 71 up for grabs in 2018 and most of them are far more winnable than this shit stain down in GA. The math and momentum is clearly with the blue team.

I'll try to generate as much energy I can in 18 but I don't trust voters
I'd be fine with Pence at this point. The disrespect and classlessness is whats triggering me with Trump. Pence would be quiet/presidential and just put in shit policy.

America's problem is two-pronged: the cancerous Republican Party and a Democratic Party that is an "herbal remedy" instead of chemo.

The whole apparatus is completely ineffective. There's no message, no talking about ideas for the country.

So, some dems are going to try and offer up Pelosi as a sacrifice, huh? When are these clowns gonna get it that the RNC is going to continuously go after every democrat that's even perceived as being worth a damn. Doubly so, if that democrat is a woman.
the main issue is the DNC is a shitfest

Bro. Have you been to Cobb county?
Step 1: Purge your Twitter feed of Trump or anyone who obsessively tweets about him
Step 2: Realize that the fight for control of the Democratic party is the real fight you should be engaged in if you're left of center.
Step 3: Get engaged on a local level, do whatever you can.

By HasphatsAnts Go To PostBro. Have you been to Cobb county?I'm not saying that a Sanders-style Democrat could have won in Cobb County. I'm saying that they can do better than Ossoff, who epitomizes the neoliberal mindset. There's a reason that Democrats are hard to relate to: it's because everyone they trot out is in the vein of Ossoff.
The entire Dem strategy right now appears to be try to win "Romney Republicans" and their only argument is "hey, we're better than that oaf Donald Trump." Democrats desperately need to create a manifesto so that people can easily identify the things they stand for.

Ossoff got to the ceiling. 48%. It is what it is. This magical pixie dust candidate does not exist
I don't think there's anything magical about developing a platform that's better than "we're not those guys"

If the premise is that Dems need to move away from candidates like Ossoff in 2018 to gain control of the house, I'm all for that.
But if the premise is that the Dems should have moved away from Ossoff to win the GA 06 special runoff on June 20th, 2017 that's fucking asinine

I'm sure throwing social issues...excuse me...identity politics under the bus is a surefire way of getting non-voters and minorities out to go vote!

You don't need to move "away" or anything, just fix the platform and organizations aim. Its shit. They're making this look real hard.
Hillary Clinton and dozens of the brightest minds of the party got rolled by a guy who is utterly ignorant about most topics and who probably wears a diaper.

Got in a tift with an associate on FB. He was pissed off at the DNC for being useless. I said the DNC didn't have principles. He said he'd argue the opposite, that the DNC has principles and unfortunately compromise is one of them. Meanwhile, Gingrich, McConnell, Cruz don't have any.
I said that compromise is actually the opposite of principles.
Also relevant: the Captain America quote that conservatives love so much (even if the actor is progressive, lol).
Conservatives say they're better, not not-worse, than the other side.

I'm not saying a bernie candidate would have won Cobb, but Ossoff wasn't bernie enough.
He wasn't *anything* enough other than a supporting character in a Sorkin drama.

I do think the left is missing the forest for the trees at the moment. When you look across the landscape of federal AND state special elections since Trump won, the baseline shift is roughly 14 points in the Democrats favor. That is wth candidates that have run as Bernie bros, centrists and just the other night, a Goldman Sachs Democrat.
With that said, Democrats do need to stop running candidates that project like they don't belong in the area they are running. Trying not to offend anyone and being worthlessly vague so you don't really give people anything to vote for or identity with your candidate about. Like Ossoff failed to do.
It doesn't have to be Bernie's platform, which for obvious reasons won't work for someone like Joe Manchin for instance, but it has to be a platform of some sort. With some specific broad outlines of an agenda.

Well if the poor would just join the military they wouldn't be poor now would they? Exactly.
Also, 😂 at the Carrier news today.
Carrier got that $7 millie Indiana state tax break though so they're good. I'm sure this wasn't the plan the entire time.

Dems need to hammer every single Republican that signed off on any form of their healthcare bill.

Total meltdown in respose to that VOX piece on the left losing those 4 special elections. Clickbait for sure, as they were never really going to win any of them, but some folks put their faith in people, I guess.
Man .... it sure feel like they're going to pass the senate's version of healthcare this week. Crazy times.
(2018: 15 million more would be uninsured than under Obamacare)
15 million people losing insurance all at once sure won't have any lagging effects on the economy. Nope.

Whatever. It's all ultimately a tax cut for the supremely wealthy in the form is destroying Medicare and the healthcare industries. They'll pass this so they can move on to tax reform and help out corporations and billionaires even more. Absolutely monstrous.
I think I read one stat (can't find it, can't verify, take it with a grain of salt) that the tax cut that goes to the richest 400 families would be enough to fund 700,000 people on Medicaid.
I'm now firmly in the "they're going to pass this shit" camp. Too many people just don't give a fuck.
What did y'all expect from those two-faced slithering cunts? The fact that this still might pass and that we're worried we can't find two decent fucking human beings on the GOP side to say "no" is a disaster for this country.
TWO GOP senators to say "no". That's all it would take.

It's the same thing as last time, you guys, but I just don't see the same level of acrimony about it. I wonder if people haven't just given up because they know Republicans have to pass this move on to the rest of their shitty agenda like more tax cuts for the wealthy and privatizing infrastructure.
I knew this thing was slated to sail through when the "moderates" in the Senate like Murkowski and Collins didn't immediately come out with a "hell no" to it. They're going to let Heller vote no as a boost to his campaign next year, let one other no in and then let Pence break the tie. It's all horrible theater.
Oh my god, this shit is worse than you can imagine:
This shit is so fucked that even employer-provided insurance isn't safe from it. 9 million people would lose their employer-provided health insurance by 2026.

I also think that the Russia investigation allowed this to happen. What Mitch McConnell did is absolutely disgusting and undemocratic, drafting this bill in secret, only letting lobbyists and his 12 fucking cronies look at it. But they were always able to slip by without much real outside protest from the American people because things that won't actually affect you for a while were gobbling up news cycles and headlines.

Meh what Mitch did was getting slammed on right wing radio this morning and for the past week. Granted im in LA, but I think the points stands. Lots of people are upset at how this is playing out and what's in the Bill itself. If anything I think they lost a little political capital in the process of creating this BCRA, but they just don't give a fuck.
The reason I think this passes now, is because I'm now sure the GOP fears being primaried from the far right for not repealing as much as they fear the moderates from being voted out in 2018 and 2020. If they figure they're fucked in the upcoming elections regardless, might as well make themselves wealthier in the process.
