"Multiple people" have been shot dead by a lone gunman at Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida, say officials.
The airport said there was an "ongoing incident" at the baggage claim area in Terminal 2.
There were several people dead and one person in custody, Broward Sheriff's office said in a tweet.
Hundreds of people were standing on the tarmac as dozens of police cars and ambulances rushed to the scene.
Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer said in a tweet: "I'm at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Shots have been fired. Everyone is running."
A witness told NBC News the gunman was shot by police less than a minute after the shooting began.
"He was gunned down by police," Mark Lea from Minneapolis told the network.
"It was absolutely surreal," he said.
"People were scared and frantically running to avoid being shot. People were tripping over each other. They were trying to make a fast exit out of the door."

Maybe they should only allow you to check your gun and make you buy ammo where you land? My family and I will occasionally travel to hunt and we check our shot guns.

Except this guy self reported he was not mentally well. IF the Republicans hadn't killed certain laws that would have meant he would have lost his gun right then and there and not been able to purchase a new one. Cut out the hand wringing shit, there was an actual solution to this case.

I mean ... there's a solution to lots of things. Single Payer healthcare for example. 60% tax rates on money made after a million and a jobs bill, democrats voting in midterms, mental health checks to get a gun, taxing capital gains like income and Trump and the entirity of the right wing being blasted off into space.

Also, he lives in Alaska, which is basically the wild west when it comes to firearm regulations.
Currently, Alaska gun laws do not require registration or permit to purchase or carry rifles, shotguns, and/or handguns. Although Alaska gun laws are still subject to federal gun laws, they also maintain their own unique provisions and guidelines....There is no proper registration or permit required to possess a firearm.

The idea is absurdly stupid. What constitutes a "crazy person"? Have doctor declare it? Cool, i'll just go to another doctor and have a second opinion, and sue the first doctor while i'm at it. Not that it matters because its a direct violation of the second amendment and would be overturned by the supreme court anyway.
It's nice to declare obvious statements like "we shouldnt let crazy people have guns" but try to look at both the semantics and aftereffects of what would be required to accomplish such things.
I agree with you diehard, but you already can't buy a gun if you have a medical marijuana card. That disqualifies you from gun ownership and it's held up by the courts.
An appeals court ruled last week that a federal law prohibiting medical marijuana cardholders from purchasing guns does not violate their Second Amendment rights, because marijuana has been linked to "irrational or unpredictable behavior."
