SL&ENT, as part of our drive to create new content and keep stuff entertaining for everyone, we’d be delighted to work with you in creating a SL&ENT podcast.
Our current thoughts for topics are Footy (Looking at you, footy-SL&ENT) and Movies/Film. Though we genuinely leave it open to any topic you wish.
What’s involved:
Creating a regular pod cast. Currently 3ManBreak (the NBA-SL&ENT pod) is going for 3 releases a month. This doesn’t have to be 3 recording sessions. It could be 1 long session cut up. Or you could do 4 releases a month record every fortnight and…. You get the idea.
You have a few basic roles:
Host: Someone willing to do a general plan of the pod cast. Topics, points with in those topics, a little research, and direction. You want to get these to your guests/partners a day or two ahead of time so they have time to gather their own thoughts. Requires you to generally stay on top of the Topic and current drama / action in the domain.
You also control the live flow of the show, and are the time keeper for segments. You don’t have to have strictly timed segments, but you don’t want to ramble on too long.
Editor/Producer: The work horse. Has to cut the show, edit out he embarrassing parts (or not), the parts that will get you sued (or not) the parts that will get us sued (definitely). Really rather time consuming. Is also usually the person that uploads to the distribution platform.
Guests / panellists: Live bodies. But people who are willing to have thoughts and views on stuff. And who will read your program and organise their thoughts is ideal.
Some of those roles /responsibilities can be changed. They can all be one person. Or split amongst several people. They’re just general run downs on the production basically.
What can SL&ENT provide:
We can provide you hosting, the software (it’s free!), sites to use for collaboration, mic recommendations, and advice on how to script.
We can provide you a channel on the SL&ENT slack server to help you organise your stuff and co-ordinate with the mods / other pod producers.
We can’t provide you … an editor. The guy who does it for So Well Spoken and 3 Man Break is Moris. And he doesn’t have much extra spare time to do it. Would be unfair to burden him with that task.
In due course we’ll be looking into helping you upgrade equipment (If we can) and possibly advertising the pod (outside of SL&ENT).
We will take no claim to the IP of the pod. It will be entirely yours. If you manage to turn it into a multi-million-dollar thing and end up dating a Kardashian we’d just ask you plug us a few times. While we laugh at your poor choice in women.
We’re also happy for you to post it to places outside the site.
How do we get started?
Leave a post in this, the pod thread, or PM a Mod (I’m one!) about getting started.

For FootballSlaent, I'd love to be a guest/panellist. Sadly too busy at the moment to take on the role of of editor or producer.
I'll take an executive producer credit, with guest cameos if my schedule allows it. Sorta like Marc Wahlberg on Entourage.
Remember Entourage?

Same for me.
Too busy with college and job atm :(
By Baconsaurus Go To PostI really like the idea but sadly I don't have any talent whatsoever.I think the main thing required in editing is time and patience.
I can hear Moris pressing record on his phone now.
We are clearly ahead, having already released a tape of erotic football fiction back before slaent even existed.
Moris mentioned that if you limit it to a 30-45 minute (sweet spot imo) podcast, that editing time roughly takes 1-2 hours. If that helps anyone thinking about editing/producing and what the time commitment would look like.
By blackace Go To PostI think some people are selling themselves shortSevere lack of an 'American Dream-like mentality' over in Europe. We've got pessimism in spades though!

Okay so I want to do two podcast. One for comics and literature. Another for film and television. I can host and probably edit. I would like some guest. If we have any women posters I wouldn't mind if they joined in on either of them.

Might wanna stick with just one of those, m8.
"Alright so that's that for Blood Meridian. Let's talk about our next topic: should we count Power Girl's cleavage as a super power?"
How difficult would editing a podcast be you reckon? I had the opportunity to do it before but assumed ti woudl require some good learning.
You'll need basic understand of any audio editing software. It can be at the most basic level that you take out dead space and adjust mic volumes to be even, to more advanced in clearing up any excess noise. The latter becomes unnecessary if everyone is using a good mic.
Here is an Adobe Audition tutorial explaining how to adjust audio levels, for example: https://helpx.adobe.com/audition/how-to/audition-manually-adjust-audio-cc.html?set=audition--get-started--essential-beginners
Not that you need Audition, there's free software like Audacity that'll do the same thing. But those are the basics of it.

Hmm, ill probably leave it to someone else more qualified, ill have a go at the tools and see what I can pick up in the meantime.
By Mr Cola Go To PostHow difficult would editing a podcast be you reckon? I had the opportunity to do it before but assumed ti woudl require some good learning.
It's way easy. Only thing about it is time commitment, you end up listening to the show 2-3 times in the process of editing it. I started editing SoWellSpoken with Audacity and zero experience with audio editing. Anyone looking to jump in, I'll give as much support as I can in my free time.
There's really a few core skills you need to edit a podcast:
-Deleting dead air - it's no biggie, just delete the empty space, very easy.
-Deleting content/coughs/breathing - Sometimes an exchange between folks is sloppy or awkward or just not good and you have to figure out how to remove it without wrecking the flow of the convo. 9 times out 10 you're just deleting sneezes and coughs etc, which is easy and a bit tedious.
-Audio leveling - some may have better equipment/internet than others so finding whose audio to amplify or tone down so they're about the same level. This really just takes some listening to the raw files, after a few minutes you can distinguish a disparity if any and usually can just highlight a whole audio file and increase or decrease volume.
- Noise Reduction - sometimes a hiss or bassy tone will mysteriously pop up on someone's file either throughout or for a short 5-10 min duration. Since everyone has an individual file, you just highlight a section of the file where the tone or hiss is isolated. Audacity can get it's 'profile' then you highlight wherever the hiss is and its removed throughout. Took me too long to discover this feature lol
Decent mics will lessen the load by a good amount too.
Biggest obstacle for some (me included) would be not having a listenable voice :lol
Just not suited for recordings

By blackace Go To PostI don't really like my voice… I am sure it would be fine
You sound like a DJ.
By Apollo Go To PostYou sound like a DJ.Makes sense because that's something I do lol...
What doesn't make sense is when I did the cast at the other site everyone said I sounded like a black Vince Vaughn..

Good stuff. I'd be happy to be on any football or film/TV podcast (but don't have the time or nous to edit and record!).
A good idea for a film one - no idea if there is something that exists already so forgive me if it does! - is something maybe a bit similar to Faraci's Canon one; a Hall of Fame? Have say 4-8 people on and you all pick a film (could be something well known or more obscure), everyone goes away and watches each of them over the next two weeks or whatever and then we discuss their merits, and then decide which one gets voted into the SLAENT Film Hall of Fame.

The funniest thing is when my friend's friend visited from Japan and she was asking why I followed you because she also followed you.
Happy to offer my services as editor. Worked 4 years as sound technician for a regional TV and radio station so I have professional experience doing sound editing.

I'll be contacting you on FB sometime this week. I like this idea.
I'm starting my own podcast but need to get everything copywritten and all with the state I am in so no one can steal my stuff. I am down to jump into someone else's stuff but my now 64 hour a week work schedule gets in the way.

Ayyyeee! I want to do this.
I'm still offended I wasn't asked to be on the hoops show, obviously Moris is jealous that the Lakers are no longer relevant.
Maybe I'll do a show on how much better Rugby League is than Union or AFL

fantastic idea.
My schedule is weird, in no small part because I live on the other side of the planet, but I did do some cinema studies in undergrad so I might be able to help with a film podcast.
Blackace is in Japan and DY in Hawaii and Moris in LA and they still manage to get the basketball podcast going lol.
It's not easy... but that's why we decided to record once per month instead of trying to do weekly or something crazy...
DY needs a podcast on communing with nature or various tales of insulated rural black fear in small towns.
We've talked about one, actually. And actually, we thought you might be a good fit but were unsure of your availability. I'd like us to do one.
Depending on how much time I need to put in to the gaming podcast, I would love to join Smokey on a tech one.
