From the makers of "God's Not Dead", comes "Do You Believe?"

My favorite critic and one of the few critics with a backbone liked 50 Shades of Grey. Not sure how to feel about this...
and now I see Guy Lodge likes it. LMAO I might watch this.

Did you get the chance to see Chappie last year Kaep? I wasn't too big a fan, but it definitely wasn't as big of a steaming pile as Elysium. Dude needs to be taken completely out of the writing process though. Blomkamp is basically Lee Daniels of the Sci Fi world. He's probably going to remake Alien Nation at some point in his career.

I have not. I don't really give a shit about it either.
kingsmen was fun to watch, especially the second half.
i like the lighter tone the movie conveys.

The other supervisor, who is about 53, is up on his hours and he informed me that his wife wants to go see 50 Shades tonight as he was walking out of the door.
I informed of what "taking L's" meant as I clocked him out.

Can we talk about how the kiss during the elevator ride in "Drive" is the most romantic kiss in an American film this decade?
By YamabroCan we talk about how the kiss during the elevator ride in "Drive" is the most romantic kiss in an American film this decade?
... I don't disagree. It was surreal and perfect all at once.
By YamabroCan we talk about how the kiss during the elevator ride in "Drive" is the most romantic kiss in an American film this decade?eh, what makes a kiss scene great is the chemistry between the two actors and buildup that leads up to it.
one of the more memorables ones i remember was the kiss scene in the notebook at the dock while it was raining.
why did i respond to this question?
im going to blow some shit up on bf3 right now.

2 Kingsman: The Secret Service Fox $36,225,000
In a single weekend, 50 Shades has established that there is a market out there that is almost completely uncharted: "pr0n" where the female is the focus.

Correct me if I am wrong because I haven't seen it but from what I read in reviews I thought Gone Girl kind of showed that there was a market for mainstream soft porn.

Perhaps. I don't know if people went to see Gone Girl expecting (kinky)sex like they did for 50 Shades.
Watched Nightcrawler. Was pretty good. Picked up in the last 3rd of the movie. Good performance by gyllenhal.
I'd just like to say that "Selma" was in no way deserving of an award for quality artistry. The subject matter with which it deals is of historical and contemporary political importance, but as a film, it's an apt example of the genre of "mediocre prestige picture" - heavyhanded, full of cliches, and quite safe and predictable, artistically. That it came the year after the truly great "12 Years a Slave" - which has a far richer narrative that works on many levels and is a masterwork of aesthetic elegance, in almost every respect - only throws into sharp relief its many artistic deficiencies.
Now, one could argue that it was racially snubbed to the extent that it's not markedly worse than many mediocre to bad movies that have been nominated for Academy Awards, but ultimately, I think the arguments about the mistakes made by the film's producers in promoting it hold more water, for the Academy is hardly shy about celebrating crap that relates directly to whatever PC cause is in the spotlight at that moment (see: Dallas Buyer's Club, Brokeback Mountain).

I don't know about any industry politics or bureaucracy, but I'm 100% in agreement with your first paragraph.

I went in wanting to celebrate it, as well. I was hoping for something like "Nashville with MLK", for I saw people go on about how "it's not just MLK's story, it's the story of individuals, of a community", but what I got was something that didn't really work as any of the things it was about. As a depiction of MLK, it's pretty shallow, full of fairly off-the-rack Hollywood biopic-type acting; as a historical movie, it's guilty of having its actors create caricatures, rather than realistic humans whose good or evil could be judged on its own merits; and, well, just looking at it as a movie, period, it's guilty of plenty of Hollywood sins - swelling music during "emotional scenes", pointless rewriting of history that made the narrative markedly worse, glossing over of characters' inner lives, a laughable song playing over the credits, etc. I'd say that it's like if Spielberg made a movie about this period in time, but in truth, he would at least have made the movie look good. This is more like if you got Ron Howard to make an MLK movie.
The only kudos I'll give it is that, at the very least, it didn't do that "cradle to grave" shit so many movies about famous figures do.
Honestly, the most interesting scene was when the two kids from SNCC argued about whether it was right for MLK to use the people of Selma for his own political ends, knowing he'll eventually have to discard them. A movie told from those kids' perspectives, with MLK as a more ambiguous, peripheral figure - would have been far better, but that probably would not have been nearly as well-funded or -received.
Walked out of Selma a hour into it. Important obviously, but...meh.
12 Years a Slave was great though, and that won BP, so its all good.
FUCK Birdman too tho, btw. Can't remember the last movie I saw so completely oblivious to the world its living in. Fuck this whole award season nigga if Linklater going home empty handed

Life is a culmination of moments, some good and some bad - but all of them factors in who we are as people.

He said father of a kid you hardly see. That suggests you've at least seen them. DY made it to the state border before his sperm reached the egg. You think he moved to Hawaii for the weather? Naw bruh, he wanted peace of mind so he put an ocean between him and his kid.

To be fair, part of the thrust of the Before... films, intentional or not, is that Jesse and Celine are right on the border of pseudointellectual and actually intelligent - leaning more toward the former, whereas "My Dinner with Andre" is of a similar balance but with two characters that lean more the other way. They have some interesting things to say, but plenty of what they say is just preening bullshit. They're not "phony" in the sense that, yeah, there's a LOT of people that talk like that, but people who hold them up as deep and profound are pretty silly.
Birdman is a movie that wanes the more you think about it. Honestly, the whole trope of the tortured artist driven to suicide is such a melodramatic cliche, you really need an interesting angle or character to make it anything other than forced. Cassavetes' "Opening Night" is a MUCH better movie about the inner life of a theatre performer.
Well most of my friend border between those lines. Some are the former.

Yup, I'll co-sign as well.
I watched Time Lapse (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2669336/) yesterday - and while it's basically a rip off of a Twilight Zone episode - the movie is pretty damn solid. Definitely recommend it if you're a fan of films that play with the concept of time.

Don't go into it expecting The Raid with serial killers though. It's a good film, but it's definitely light on action in comparison to something like The Raid. It shares some actors and production staff with The Raid, but that's pretty much true for every Indonesian film in existence.
