So I'm a huge Halo fan

And as of now Halo 4 is the most played halo game online out of 2 3 and reach for me. I have stuck with Halo 4 since launch and I still play it everyday I get home from work.
People seem to hate Halo4 with a passion because AA and loadouts. But at its core its still Halo.
Is there something wrong with me?

Yes, I hate Halo 4.
I played thousands of matches in Halo 2, 3 and to a lesser extant Reach, Halo 4 is such a drastic deviation that it killed my love of the series. Speaking strictly about multiplayer, armor abilities, instant respawns and sprint ruined the regular Halo match flow and map control was destroyed with random weapon spawns and loadouts.
Single player is the worst in the series, too, but that's another story.
It's a bad Halo game and 343 doubled down on the things I hate about their game and added even more things I hate like iron sights, ledge grabbing and the in-air boosters in 5.

There is something very wrong with you.
I've never dropped a Halo game as quick as I did 4. I even stuck with Reach longer despite having to deal with armor lock all the other shit they put in.
The story and mission design were awful but how they managed to fuck up almost everything I liked about Halo multiplayer was incredible.

By VlatkoThe story and mission design were awful but how they managed to fuck up almost everything I liked about Halo multiplayer was incredible.I could not force myself to finish the campaign solo. I eventually did it co-op, but my lord, it's so awful. The graphics fidelity sacrificed the big open Halo combat arena for corridor shooting. Every mission is go here and press this button. The new enemies are absolutely no fun to fight, either, being somehow worse than the Halo 2 bullet sponge brutes.
It's such a miserable fucking game all around.
By rodeoclownI could forgive a shitty single player because its not like every Bungie games' was a home run but I want to be in the room where they thought teleporting bullet sponge enemies that provide no visual feedback when getting shot was a good enough. Or introducing and ending the game on a QTE.By VlatkoThe story and mission design were awful but how they managed to fuck up almost everything I liked about Halo multiplayer was incredible.I could not force myself to finish the campaign solo. They also must have spent a long time brainstorming to think of the new weapons they introduced like the Promethean battle rifle, Promethean shotgun, Promethean smg, Promethean rocket launcher, and Promethean plasma pistol.
I did not honestly remember that 4 ended on a QTE. I blocked it out, I think.
It's just a game so full of utterly baffling design decisions that I've always wondered if 343 understands what was cool and unique and good about Halo before everything started to go to hell with Reach and Call of Duty started to creep in.
The game should reward skillful play, but there's no map control. You can respawn instantly so there's no penalty for playing poorly. It should be a relatively even playing field, but loadouts and perks change that.

By CRUDWhat have I done...Awoken long repressed feelings. I complain because I care. I love Halo. Or I used to before it became what it is today.
I have never understood the love for Halo as a series.
I played the first one and while I enjoyed the shooting mechanics the story was terrible and the overall feel of the game is just so sterile and soulless.
Haven't had an Xbox since the original and that won't change unless they get a few exclusives that I really want to play. Halo would need a complete makeover to appeal to me.

For anyone interested, I put up a survey on the Guardians Beta that covers almost all of the bases. You should be able to get your more vocal opinions (regarding Spartan Abilities, starting weapons, sound design, etc.) covered, anyway.

I could fill it out, but why? I think they know where the real diehards stand on sprint and armor abilities and everything else, but they continue to go away from the design of the classic Halo games.

CE was the first one I really got into, and H5G is honestly my second-favorite in the franchise already behind CE. They're bringing so many things back that haven't been in since CE - from the substantial like a centered crosshair, every weapon having a unique role, nading weapons to your person, to the minute like being able to kill yourself by shooting at glass with an automatic at close enough range - that it's really invigorated my hope with 343. I don't think H5G is going to be perfect, by any means, but I definitely think it's a step in the right direction. Ideally I'd want sprint canned, base movement speed increased and Smart Scope removed on weapons that would ordinarily have traditional "dumbscopes." I mean, there's more I might want out of the game, but I can put up with a lot of shit. If they just did those three things it'd probably be my favorite in the franchise.
Bare minimum, I think Halo 6 is going to be terrific if it ends up being the true "end result" of this step in the right direction with H5's design philosophy.
