the new Mac Pro is interesting
On on hand it's stupid to create proprietary tech that you can't easily upgrade, on the other Apple needs unique things to differentiate themselves. They changed the PCIe spec to allow Thunderbolt and 475watts over an on-board connector.
Obviously it's too much money and people are going to lose their shit when comparing it to a PC but i don't really care about that.

The iPadOS stuff they previewed was much overdo and wholly welcome. The multi-tasking improvements and split window stuff is great.
The security and privacy features makes continuing to use this ecosystem a no brainer.
Sidecar letting us to natively use our iPads as a monitor as well as for inputs, an a Wacom Tablet alternatives something long overdue and something that we expected from iPad Pro when it first launched.
Sidecar being able to do this wirelessly as well is just amazing.
I want an Mac Pro and especially that Display badly but I know for a fact that it isn't for me or any consumer. That shit is for businesses and enterprises who have the budget to use it.
I hope Apple would release another display, 5-8k, that is built for consumers and independent creators.

Yup, plus they combined that with being able to finally read files off of SD cards and USB drives, which means if you want to edit photos via the upcoming Photoshop update directly on iPad then you easily can.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostHold up. Apple finally introduced second screen on the iPad?
SideCar lets you use your iPad as a secondary display and as a touch/pencil input tablet for illustration apps like Photoshop and Illustrator.
You can do it both wired and wirelessly. Full orientation support and control. You might even be able to do it with more than one.

Sweet, shame my iPad is the original retina from 2012. Will need a new one to take advantage.

Looks like Apple desktop devs will have to start bundling their scripting language runtimes in their packages pretty soon (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos_release_notes/macos_10_15_beta_release_notes):
Scripting language runtimes such as Python, Ruby, and Perl are included in macOS for compatibility with legacy software. Future versions of macOS won’t include scripting language runtimes by default, and might require you to install additional packages. If your software depends on scripting languages, it’s recommended that you bundle the runtime within the app. (49764202)
I've been trying out a lot of the different Windows 10 security features and the only one that has kinda bothered me in day-to-day use is the Controlled Folder Access settings. It uses a white list to allow individual programs write access to your personal and public Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music, and Desktop folders (you can add whatever folder you want to the original list, if you like).
Anytime something is blocked, a notification pops up asking if you would like to add the app to the white list. It can get annoying because it seems like a million programs want to write to those folders. Especially when running an installer. I'm not sure if I have to do this, but it feels like I have to cancel the installation and then retry it after I enable the access.
I guess after a long while of using all the various things on my computer it won't be as annoying. As this is part of the Windows ransomware protection, I doubt I will ever encounter a time where I'm actually protected by it but it's good to know it exists.

By Smokey Go To PostWait, wut
Google leaked themselves to preempt others doing it I guess?
First Ian Callum leaves Jaguar and now Ive leaves Apple. What a week in the industrial design world.
Think I may go again for the pixel 4, pixel 2 was the best phone ive had, the three was more of an increment upgrade but still cool. Or it might be time to migrate over to the note assuming they'll be one in a few months

I'm still on Pixel 2 XL myself. Incredible phone.
Been working on the Pixel 2 this past week to release my work's new app and that shit is trash. I don't know how you Android users put up with such a mess.
By reilo Go To PostIt's a free site. You can leave at any time.aka "the internet is a big place" ? lol

Stop it
I'm not lying. It feels like it's made by the same team that does Google Sheets. It's so cluttered.
The virtual navigation bar at the bottom? Why? Get with gestures and free up that noise. It shrinks the entire UI because the notifications bar is so cluttered, too.
Push notifications are enabled by default rather than opt-in. That one infuriates me the most. It just contributes more to the noise. But it's the same philosophy Google uses to try and collect all your data at every step so they can resell your shit to advertisers.

And then there's actually developing for Android.
Android Studio is fine from an IDE perspective, but it's powered by IntelliJ. Anyone that's ever used an IntelliJ product knows that it will do one thing and consistently: eat up all your memory and crash your shit. I had it installed for 48 hours and my computer and it hard crashed 6 times in that span.
Okay, that's fine, I don't need to use Android Studio, I can use the CLI to run my emulators and load up apps using adb onto device. A bit of annoying instead of hitting CTRL+R but whatever.
Oh. That's just having the damn emulator open. This is beyond stupid. And I haven't even gotten into OS fragmentation which makes my life suck.
10% on Android 9
27% on Android 8
20% on Android 7
17% on Android 6
Why. Why do you put up with this.
Oh, and Gradle? Fuck you, too.

It's phone UI, bruv.
simple.
The UI that's clean, consistent, concise, private conscious AND doesn't try to resell your shit to everyone? Yea, enjoy your cluttered mess designed by the Excel team.

yeesh
By Smokey Go To Postgood guy Apple"I got nothing to hide" says the guy when government introduces more surveillance and Facebook sells your shit to Uzbekistan.
No? The opposite. They made sure that your phone didn't crash if your battery went sideways because it was on its last legs. They prioritized having the OS still run rather than crash and that had people angry.
Also, if you think Apple is about that then you need to look up the crazy good performance improvements they made for iOS12 on older devices and are continuing to make for iOS13.
