Apple has now shut down Google’s ability to distribute its internal iOS apps, following a similar shutdown that was issued to Facebook earlier this week. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Google Maps, Hangouts, Gmail, and other pre-release beta apps have stopped working today, alongside employee-only apps like a Gbus app for transportation and Google’s internal cafe app.https://www.theverge.com/2019/1/31/18205795/apple-google-blocked-internal-ios-apps-developer-certificate
By diehard Go To PostBut they didn't really do well even in just the corporate space either. They lost processing to Intel, Virtualization to VMWare, storage to EMC, servers to Dell/HPE, and networking to Cisco. A modern datacenter probably doesn't contain an IBM product and that would have been unthinkable 35 years ago.All true, but they pivoted away towards being solutions rather than best in category.
I would fully expect them to have lost on plenty of products/solutions, but are they the market leader in anything now? POS systems?

Weird. They posted a thing about how Apple had shut out Google's internal access to their iOS apps. Must've jumped the gun.

What's kind of scary is the power Apple has over what can be on your phone. You're literally letting a multinational corporation control your phone and you have no recourse.

Very very close to switching to Firefox from Chrome. Not even sure I have a good reason not to anymore

I’ve only ever used Firefox, I’m not at all fussy over web browsers though but I’ve never had any real issues with it over the last 15 or more years.
Firefox had major memory leak issues before the switch to the new engine that's around the time I went over to chrome. Now Chrome is just overbloated garbage.
The U.S. government and Facebook are negotiating a record, multibillion-dollar fine for the company’s privacy lapses
You know you fucked up when the FTC under Trump thinks you went too loose with people's privacy.
The Federal Trade Commission and Facebook are negotiating over a multi-billion dollar fine that would settle the agency’s investigation into the social media giant’s privacy practices, according to two people familiar with the probe.https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/02/14/us-government-facebook-are-negotiating-record-multi-billion-dollar-fine-companys-privacy-lapses/
The fine would be the largest the agency has ever imposed on a technology company, but the two sides have not yet agreed on an exact amount. Facebook has expressed initial concern with the FTC’s demands, one of the people said. If talks break down, the FTC could take the matter to court in what would likely be a bruising legal fight.
Facebook confirmed it is in discussions with the agency but declined to comment further. The FTC declined to comment. The two people familiar with the probe spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the private talks.

By LFMartins86 Go To PostSamsung Galaxy Fold has been announced : 12GB of RAM, 512 GB of internal memory, 2 batteries, 6 cameras - 2K$.It looks cool if a bit clunky. Their wireless earbuds are cool too and they can be charged wirelessly using the new Galaxy S10.

There's a huge market for people who want a foldable phone. There are heaps of older people who still find text on the screen too small. Seeing a larger map IS easier. etc etc. Heaps who want it for games.
I've never bought an "XL" version of any phone, but they sell ok, and manufacturers keep putting them out.
It's not gimmicky of bottoming out. That's just inane hot takes in the moment.
I don't think a majority of people will want one though, not with how thick those are. Men can't just put that in their jeans pocket. It's far too big.
But it will keep getting refined.

I was a dumbass and bought the Xs Max.
But I'll tell you, I upgraded from an iPhone 5.
Once you go phablet, you'll never go back.
It made me buy a protective case for the first time ever, too; that OtterBox Defender with the belt clip, yo.
Now I understand why rich people be protecting their investments. This was a peak into a new world for me.
