By rerixo Go To Postare powerline adapters actually that bad? I thought they would be better than wifi at least. i read that their quality varies depending on the wiring of your place.. but is it just crap most of the time?It used to be better but WiFi has eclipsed it and how most places are wired shit to save money on building costs you might as well set up a mesh network.

Back in the PS3/360 era, they were better. But now with AC wifi being prevelant and speeds being up, I don't see why you'd use them, especially when they rely on the wiring in the walls and its quality.

Thinking of getting an ethernet splitter so I can wire the ps4 and the pc through the same power socket adaptor, not sure if it'd work though.
Get 38mbps through the pc, and 4mbps through the PS4 even when it's wired. What a pile of shite. Is there a way of downloading updates through the pc and transferring it to PS4?
802.11ad or 802.11ax lads? Ax seems like it'll get more traction?

I believe a lot of development on ad has stopped outside of very specific things like wireless VR headsets. ax is basically the real next gen standard. I think, wifi isn't exactly my jam yo
on the other hand, 802.11ad is basically the perfect use for you right now.. super high speeds to go across the room. I might need to research this.

Mmhmm I've been in and out of the rabbit hole all day, and that's what caught my eye about AD. There are routers on sale for both upcoming standards at the moment, although I guess that shouldn't be too surprising.
By Laboured Go To PostMy BT Home Hub 5 is dying. Recommend me stuff and tingReilo and myself will usually recommend a mesh router if your current one is dying. Google WiFi, Eero, and Netgear Orbi have traditionally been the top three for most people last I checked.

For many years, the fog of distrust surrounding Huawei was a problem that was largely confined to the United States. Large American mobile carriers such as AT&T have avoided using Huawei’s equipment in their networks ever since a 2012 congressional report highlighted the security risks.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/06/technology/huawei-arrest-meng-wanzhou.html
In response, Huawei focused its business efforts elsewhere. Its success in wealthy places such as Europe has helped it become the planet’s largest maker of telecommunications equipment, as well as its No. 2 smartphone brand. Of the more than $90 billion in revenue it earned last year, more than a quarter came from Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Now, a wider patch of the world appears to be siding with Washington against Chinese technology. A turn en masse against the company, led by governments in many of its most important markets, would have grave implications for its business.
Australia barred Huawei earlier this year from supplying technology for the country’s fifth-generation, or 5G, mobile networks. New Zealand last week blocked one of its leading mobile carriers from buying Huawei’s 5G gear. Britain’s intelligence chief, in a rare public appearance this week, said that the country had a difficult decision to make on whether to allow Huawei to build its 5G infrastructure.
And Canada’s top spy echoed those concerns, without naming Huawei or China, in a speech on Tuesday. Huawei has tested 5G equipment with major mobile carriers in both Canada and Britain.
By Hitch Go To PostDo ethernet splitters work? Always assumed it'd have to be one cable per deviceDo you actually mean splitter? Or are you asking if you can take 1 Ethernet cable and connect multiple devices?
The latter, not sure what the word is for it
Actual splitters cost a fair amount and have 4+ ports, and I only want to split it in two.

I caved and bought the O6T. The lack of notification led is annoying, but other than that I like it so far.

I used them when I lived at my dad for half a year. The wireless was terrible in the house and had huge dead zones, no matter what I tried. The powerlines worked perfectly fine, took a little of the speed (think I got 50-65/50-65 instead of the 100/100 connection we were supposed to have), but it was very reliable.
Supermicro has sent a letter to its customers saying that it has found no evidence of malicious chips on its motherboards. The company asked third-party company Nardello & Co. to audit Supermicro’s hardware.https://techcrunch.com/2018/12/11/supermicro-says-investigation-firm-found-no-spy-chips/
On October 4, a Bloomberg report claimed that China’s spies managed to conceal tiny malicious chips on Supermicro motherboards. Those chips would then end up in data centers operated by Supermicro customers, such as Amazon and Apple.
The article quickly became controversial as nobody could corroborate the story. Both Apple and Amazon issued multiple rebuttals, putting their own reputation on the line.

I like my smart led bulbs, so far. Being able to adjust brightness and color temperature is a blessing to someone like me who isn't quite sure what works best for me.

Each to their own but your killing me man lol.
But tbh oxtail is low key over rated, think I've had a change of heart recently, so fatty, barely any meat. Should be used to make a bon bon.

I think the last time I actually ate ackee and codfish was after the island got hit with a major hurricane and I was starving. I hate the texture of ackee also oxtail is shit.
Proper jerk chicken and pork still the goat tho, although curry goat has taken me to valhala many times.
Jerk chicken after a day drunk is so key. If you ever want to make some yourself look for Walkerswood Traditional Jamaican seasoning it's proper.
About to pick up a 27" iMac for my wife for Christmas. Will be a huge upgrade over her current MackBook which was originally supposed to be used for school, but has turned into a production machine for her work. Was never specced to handle that type of work though.
Is AppleCare worth it? This shyt is $169 for 3 years and for what smh
And does anybody do 4k editiing here?

By reilo Go To Post^ kado does
Maybe Apollo?
I'm more curious if the specs I have are enough to handle 4k editiing. Id like to start moving in that direction if possible. It's a quad core clocked at 3.5ghz. Has a Radeon Pro in other. Only 8GB of RAM but I plan to upgrade that to 16GB on my own.
What about Time Machine? The hell is this? I boguht an additional external HDD for more space and through the process it installed Time Machine which seemed to do the exact opposite of what I wanted.
You'll be bottle-necked by the RAM, potentially.
Time Machine is just a configurable back-up to another drive. It does take up space and resources though, but it's a good automated back-up tool.

You should be able to buy AppleCare within the first year. Don’t need to make a decision now.
I have not had it on any of my devices and they have all been fine so far.

Adobe is poorly optimized.
A quad core wont even peak when trying to playback in real time. Gpu acceleration and playing at half or quarter resolution willl help but your first bottleneck is the bus speed and bandwidth.
You'll need to split up the data through multiple lanes with a raid set up.
Why do you want to shoot at 4k?
A high quality bitrate codec with a good exposed area shot on 1080p is more than suitable.
Fyi, a lot of network tv shows are still being shot at 1080p.

We have Final Cut Pro that I bought like anyear ago, but can't really run on her current machine. With this guy, I imagine she'd go to that. Is final cut good? I just thought it was sort of the default at the time on the Mac platform.
And yes you're right about 4k. She doesn't need it. That's the nerd in me wanting it lol. But it'd be nice to have the capability to do so in the future.
