The obvious reading here is that Apple is overhauling iOS’s approach to file management. Ever since the original iPhone was released in 2007, Apple’s mobile devices have abstracted away files wherever possible, leaving the handling of documents to individual apps and cloud services.https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/5/15739136/apple-files-app-ios-11-wwdc-2017
This should vastly improve the usability of the iPad as a workstation.
Rumored before, but now confirmed:
Apple File System replaces HFS as the new default.Good pricing:
Starts at $1,099, goes up a model that starts at $1,799. A 4k model at $1,299.
I was gonna pull the trigger on the Redmi Note 4 but then I noticed the Nokia 6 releasing soon, very solid phone judging by the specs and amazing build quality.
will release here on the 13th, might as well wait until then.

Bye bye MacPro, hello iMac Pro
You can also get a 10-core processor. Or, eff it, you can get it with 18 cores.
Radeon Vega graphics. Available with up to 16GB of VRAM and 400GB per second of memory bandwidth.
You can get up to 128Gb of ECC memory. Up to 4TB of SSD.
Comparably specced system on Windows would cost $7000. Starting config for iMac Pro $4,999.
That fucking text message. lol
If the hardware that is offered at ~$1,000 is decent, it would be the first time I have ever considered purchasing an Apple computer since wanting my mom to get me a IIe when I was a kid in the late 80s / early 90s.

Expected the MacBook Pro updates to not be available until Fall. It being out for order today and to deliver in 2 weeks or less is amazing.
I'm going to see if we can go make an order and charge it as a business expense because I need upgrade really bad.

iOS 11 will be available for iPhone 5s and later
Mind blowing that they support 4 year old devices like that.

Potentially moving soon, does anyone here have experience with a smart home setup?
Thinking about at least getting Nest thermostats and smoke alarms, and the HomePod seems pretty cool as well.

Anyone have an Apple Watch? My GF wants to get me one for my birthday but it was never something I even thought about getting or looked into.

I personally don't understand them. If you're wearing a watch, wear a real god damn watch.
By KingGondo Go To PostPotentially moving soon, does anyone here have experience with a smart home setup?I seen some slick wall outlets with USB options included. Seems practical if you're renovating or remodeling. Doesn't sound pricy either.

Man, I would buy this R/C truck in an instant if I knew of a place close by that could give it a workout:

Lesson learned today, don't just take the best option on offer from whoever you got your phone from last time
-Get a phone call from phones.co.uk
-Upgrade time, best offer change from EE to Three for £35pm
-Sign up
-Look online, same phone for £27pm from O2
-Phone EE for PAC code, get offered a load of bollocks, eventually get code
-Phone phones.co.uk to cancel the offer, eventually cancel it
-Phone has already been dispatched. Have to either refuse the delivery* or pay to send it back
-Have to phone the insurers to cancel that as well
-Three will take the first month of payment, and then supposedly refund it automatically the next month
*and hope that they don't just try to deliver it again the next day. Probably easier to just pay to send it back to where I want it to end up, rather than back to the courier's depot.
What a pain in the bollocks.

Leave a note in your Dropbox or whatever to return any package from that company and hope it gets read and understood.
Wow
Delivery was delayed yesterday
Today they've outright lied about attempting a delivery 20 minutes ago, and just sent me a text saying I wasn't in
edit: O2's PAC form seems ancient

Bought the Honor 8 a few weeks ago on sale at $300 from it's original price of $450.
Loving it, almost flagship specs at mid-range price. It looks gorgeous (Sapphire Blue) and it's blazing fast, with a great dual camera setup. Only negatives are the battery life, which is a bit average, and the glass back is fragile so I have to cover its good looks with a case, the metal on the side feels very sturdy though. Also not water resistant like my old Moto G so I have to be a bit more careful.

Not sure how it happened, but the cache on my Android phone and tablet reached over 2 GB. Deleted it and now my devices are snappy again. Will need to see at what size it typically slows down again. And learn what gets added to it in the first place. Like, does updating an app give it a new cache but the old isn't deleted? Or is nothing odd happening and this is just what's going to happen to a cache system with no uper limit over the course of multiple months?

But now, the one app you can’t escape on the S8 is Bixby. Sure, you can choose to not use it, but the S8 has a dedicated button on the side that can only be used to open Bixby. At some point, whether intentionally or by accident, you will open Bixby on the Galaxy S8. In a stroke of infinite genius, Samsung has actually turned its software bloat into physical hardware bloat.🤦🏼♂️
This wouldn’t be a problem if Bixby was actually good, useful, or at least different from what Google already provides with Android.
Samsung software continues to be trash.
Eeros are a fucking game-changer. Just hooked a Gen 2 up with 2 beacons and resolved any and all Wifi issues. Tried all kinds of extenders and top-rated wifi routers, but they all sucked, no matter which place I lived in.
The Eero though? Killing it.
It's pricy af for $399 but if you care about proper internet with no issues, get one.

Looks like you can get a set of three of them for $360 on Amazon.
I might get a pair for my mom since her Cisco Valet router is, uhh, a little long in the tooth and starting to show it's age (it's the original model from like seven years ago).
e: I think the deal I found for $360 was for revision 1. It lists the things as dual-band while the new stuff linked directly from Eero's website are tri-band.

Make sure whether it's a gen 1 or gen 2. The gen 2 beacons are 3x as powerful as the gen 1 Router alone.
By reilo Go To PostMake sure whether it's a gen 1 or gen 2. The gen 2 beacons are 3x as powerful as the gen 1 Router alone.Looking at some reviews and I think the Google WiFi would be better for my mom. It's cheaper and the extra performance of an Eero wouldn't matter to her. Nor would the interface since I would be the one setting it all up.
e: as for me, I was looking up gaming latency for both routers and kept getting posts about spikes and random latency issues. Think I will stay with my current Linksys router + wired-into-extender setup I'm currently using since performance is fast and I don't have any issues with it.
I've been sitting on an upgrade for a while now. I do enjoy my S6 Edge, but wouldn't mind something new and shiny. Are they making another edge phone, or is the S8/S8 + basically it? I'm not in any rush and could wait and see what the new Note is like.
Thanks to Reilo posting about the Eero, I started looking up a bunch of other mesh networking devices. I found this review particularly helpful: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wi-fi-mesh-networking-kits/ (note: it has not been updated with the newest revisions of the Orbi, Eero, and possibly other devices, but was accurate at the time of writing last month)
It likes the Netgear Orbi for most people. It has the best coverage-per-unit, best throughput, and second best latency among the devices tested. It also offers extensive and advanced router options for people who need it, in addition to four ethernet ports per device.
The Plume was another strong recommendation but only for a specific subset of people. It offers the best latency but throughput can be middling. Not a problem unless you are constantly transferring files between devices on the network. It does not offer much advanced networking settings and only has a single ethernet port per device.
For comparison, the newest Eero has a good amount of networking options (but not quite as many as the Orbi, from what I can tell) and two ethernet ports per device.
A cool thing I found while reading up on all this stuff: the Plume consists of little wall-plug units you barely notice and the newest revisions to the Orbi and Eero have similar for their satellites. The Eero satellites (called "beacons"), however, also provide nightlight capabilities.

Yea, the Beacons are also 30% (not 3x as I wrongly stated before) as powerful as the original Eero Gen. 1 hub, whereas the Gen. 2 hub is a whopping 2-3x as powerful. It works great thus far (it hasn't been 24 hours, but in comparison to prior issues even depending on where in my bedroom I was), it's an incredible improvement. The Beacons are about the same size as my old extenders, just sleeker looking. The Hub is smaller than say, an Apple router, with similarly looking sleek design (if that matters to you).
Yeah, the Eero rev 2 looks much better than rev 1. Can't wait till that review updates with it's testing of both that and the new Orbi's.

I don't think I will look at one for my personal use until there is a new wireless signal tech or something similar that I need since my current setup is good enough.
For my mom, though, I'll be keeping an eye on this stuff for the next few months and get one for her either as just a random gift or for Christmas (if it gets that far). She actually has some deadzones in her house due to walls, glass doors, and bathrooms.
I'm doing a test with my current setup just to check out what it looks like. Computer connected to extender via ethernet and extender connected to base router via dual-band wi-fi. I do not have any other devices connect to the extender (now or ever). A 900p twitch stream is also being played while pinging my home router continuously.
90% of the pings are 1ms. 10% get spikes from 5 to 30ms. A little more volatile than I want for gaming though I have never really noticed it. I could probably reduce the volatility a bit if the base router wasn't on a glass surface (entertainment center) and if it and the extender had a cleaner line-of-sight to each other.
e: re-ran that improvised test to the extender itself instead of the base router and 98% of the pings are less than 1ms and the spikes are up to a whopping 2ms
