The most depressing, horrible places in the world right now. We have Assad's concentration camps on one side and ISIS's desperate desire to rape, enslave, and murder all Yazidis, Christians, Jews, moderate Mulsims and really everyone. Military action can often create worse scenarios, but fuck it, this is the fucking darkest it can get. I think United States' actions are going to help save lives over in these areas. What do the military members here think about the new pledge from the White House to kill ISIS?
I support the military action. Just because of the sheer intolerance being shown.

There is horrific shit everywhere - I just don't think that they should be the #1 on the board if we're talking about having the goal of actually making a lasting difference or stabilizing an area. Obama's definitely looking at his tanking approval ratings and seeing this as an easy win there. But I think it needs to be done - they've got the Iraqi military demoralized and in disarray, with commanding officers fleeing forts in the middle of the night. If they start getting close to Baghdad then Iran is going to try & move in "to save their Shia brothers" etc. If they don't and the government collapses, then ISIL becomes a genuinely serious problem.
Either way, they do need to do something even if nobody has the stomach to send troops right now. People talk about oil like it's a cynical money grab, but the fact is if you turn off the spigot right now then societies will collapse and people will starve. Your average city has maybe 3-5 days of food on the shelves, and depend on trucks to keep things that way. If the price of oil skyrockets then so does the price of food and riots will happen fast.
Preventing societal collapse and maintaining some sense of stability in Iraq is in everyone's best interest, even if there doesn't seem to be a clear end goal or winning strategy.

The demographics nationally don't favor a republican candidate at all in 2016. You can't win out in the EC if the only big state you are picking up is Texas and none of the coastal states where the ECs are.

EXs are generally determined by the midwest, blue collar states. Unions are beginning to collapse. Michigan is a "right to work" state right now.
